A couple of the big powered LS1 guys i know launch in second every now and then. Shouldn't be that bad, however maybe being an AWD, it'll put a lot more load on the drivetrain compared to RWD so not sure...

wouldnt the box break first? also do they really do it? because one of the coments made by them was every gtr owner knows to lanch it in 2nd and they got a wicked start the guy in the 32 gtr got belted he lanched in first.

did they have traction?

when i think of hitting the plex and launching beyond 4000rpm all i can see is things ending with sideways into concrete

For best results, launch in 3rd

If you have the budget to build a car that can withstand that kind of punishment, then do it. If not, then do it and break shit everywhere.

Why not just make some more power, launch it gently, then munch everyone in 50m time?

Hahaha yeah i got that pic. Wasn't it the flywheel that exploded though?

yeh was the flywheel went everywhere even into the road was holes through the bonnet just a mess.

ok thats the battle but dosnt have the end bit where there talking and descussing the gtr's and about the lanch in 2nd i have the full dvd, now check out the lanch the r33 and r34 was in 2nd and the r32 and r35 where in first.

you are right. the big drama will be the strain on the clutch and on the engine. but sure its worth a try if you find you are getting lots of wheel spin in 1st gear launches. you'll need some decent power to get it happening nicely though.

crikey... the 32 initially gets off the line a touch quicker but the 33 and 34 come storming past... the 34 looks to be making more than 600ps tho... or its just running average tires as it smokes them up even launching in 2nd!? (maybe it was just turning the wheel as he had to steer around the 33)

I'd be interested to know if that improves the 0-100kn/h time as you wouldn't have to make a gear change

I'm too scared to try it... someone else try it and let me know how it went lol

Did any of you see the pic from a few years back where some muppet in a R33 ( I think), tried to launch it at 7000rpm and parts of the clutch came through the bellhousing into the cabin? Was pretty dramatic lol.

that was benm your talking about yeah... as far as i can remember it was a jim berry rebuilt clutch mated to a lightened stock flywheel and was a 1st gear 7k sidestep ~> BANG!

dangerous, dangerous shit

    • The spray cans were in the "Kiln" room whilst I was preping the parts,  so probably around 2 hours to get them warmed up, the kiln room has 3 small ovens running at 100°c, 3 medium sized ovens running 100°c, and the large one I used running at 80°c, the room itself was about 28°c, I also spent a bit of time taping up the parts in the room as well, and by the time I was done I would assume that the parts were around that 28°c As for power, I expect a couple of Killerwasps up high would be achievable with the current mods, I'm still running the MZR 2.0 intake and throttle body, and there is a slight mismatch with the 2.0 intake (smaller) and 2.5 intake ports (larger) on the head, this intake is matched and specifically designed to fix this issue with the ports mismatch, the throttle body is also a couple of mm larger, OEM is 65mm, the Bosch is 68mm In the end it will look "prettier" than the molded plastic thing that is the OEM MZR 2.0 intake As for the LSD, it's the OEM Torsen which works fine for what I use the car for, plus, basically no maintenance apart from the occasional oil change
    • I was at Tunehouse in Marrickville (great team over there really know their VR's) , and I spotted this Very clean R35.
    • Mate , I have the same issue right now with the exhaust noise , if you can tell me what your local guy did , I'll talk to my guys and see if they can do the same. Power is good but it just too loud when put it down.
    • The other trick I've found with wrinkle black is to put the can in hot water for a bit to warm the paint up, and to pre-heat whatever you're painting. It'll be interesting to see if you pick up any power with the intake, following with interest. Got a proper lsd for this?
    • Plazmaman 76mm Pro Series, done. Data to back it up, I posted up somewhere here a few years back
