hey guys,

never meant to rebuild my 20 but it cracked a head so i built a new one

it has

-completely reconditioned head..valve grind and seals etc

-ACL race series main and big end bearings

-Mahle piston rings

-Cometic 1.2mm metal head gasket

-Every seal and gasket replaced

-GTR injectors

-Adjustable cam gears

-Gates Racing Triple Strength Timing Belt

-Getting the ECU retuned by MRC Performance with the nistune software

now it comes to turbo...hmmmm

dont have heaps of money so i cant afford the garrett i wanted

someone through work offered me an unused KKR560 turbo for a price i couldnt refuse

IS IT TOO LAGGY? its about the same size as a Garrett 3076

I dont care if it spools up to full boost at about 4000-4500rpm just not much later

advice pls

To laggy IMHO. RB20 doesn't spool dtuff real well. What kind of stuff do you want to do with the car? If you went to the trouble to go forged internals on a RB20, one might assume you are chasing power levels that would involve turbo's that are going to be laggy anyways. Did you already buy it? Is it bolt on, or are you planning on a manifold and external gate or something. If your going to the trouble of a top mount and external wastegate anyways on a budget, I'm a big fan of Holset turbo's. Search on this board and you'll find some info. HX35 sounds like it would be right up your alley.

Also, can you please remove the HEEELP! from the title since you, in fact, don't actually need urgent help of any kind and you are just asking a question. I'm so sick of clicking on stuff like that expecting so see somebody needing urgent help with something like a blown motor or "I can't get this back together!" and seeing a question about which turbo or what blow off valve.

Sorry bout that i was looking at buying it then and there almost so i did want urgent help but point taken.

have decided to go with the humble KKR430

want to a tough street car with good circuit and drift ability so got all that stuff plus recaro seat and full whiteline catalog almost lol

also my speedo just randomly stopped working...not the drive in the gearbox or the bottom of the cable...new dash needed maybe?

Can you see the nib spinning around inside the dash portion if you have somebody below the car spinning the other end of the cable?

    • I dunno about that as a blanket statement. Pitwork is Nissan's "Nissan genuine" thing, and for stuff like timing belts, I have found them to be excellent. Of course, for things like oil filters, you always use proper trusted brands anyway, not whatever the OEM has taken to using.
    • Ahhhh... If you were putting 12V to the led in there, that's likely made it very unhappy. Chances are how you put power, was 12V across an LED that's meant to only have about 20mA through it at peak, and a forward voltage of about 1.8 to 2.4 volts. That circuit is likely only a 3V3 circuit, and will have a resistor in series with the led too. That's my guesstimate on that light, without having touched one.
    • Another vote for installing them and see how you go.  I mean, you already own them, why would you not fit them?
    • I have had too many of those over the years, my cars have a toolkit or at minimum a cheapy multi tool thing because its too easy to be snookered by some stupid plastic clip that stops you checking the battery terminal isn't loose.
    • Basically, if there is a part# on the nissan catalogue, it is a genuine part. There is a thing called "new old stock" which is stuff made years ago but never sold (or landfilled), but it is super hit and miss what you can buy. Other than some expensive Nismo stuff there is nothing new being made that suits these cars. The only time to be a little careful is (mostly in the US I think, but maybe Japan too), Nissan started rebranding some cheap crap maintenance parts like oil filters as "Pitworks"; stay away from them, if you are buying cheap just buy whatever the local car parts shop carries The three part numbers have an explanation on Amayama: 0V005 is auto, base style 0V015 is manual 0V505 is auto, hectic momo branded ones, maximum F&F points there!
