A cold Air intake system on your car will cost $790. (NM35 2001)

I spose that isn't too bad, if the system gives good results.

We can also piggy back an aftermarket ecu and boost controller plus tune for $3000.

woah, that sounds pretty over the top, unless they are using a top of the line ECU / Boost Controller.

Just some food for thought, if anyone wants to know who quoted me this as you are interested send me a PM

EDIT 1: I've just emailed them asking what brand/model products they would use for this fitout.

FYI, I'm still talking to the chap who was going to do the tune on "project axis"

Says he's almost ready (99%), but needs to source a CPU ex Japan as backup insurance. I believe I saw a couple on Importmonster this evening, and there was also mention of a half cut import being brought to WA. The ECU should be available shortly.

He's talking a whole lot less that that figure.

As a matter of interest, I found a company that says it can address the slow launch on drive by wire cars.

This is a small part of the tune offered by the tuner mentioned above.

I'll let you know how it goes when we move forward.

I was quoted today $1500 for a Haltech Interceptor and Dyno tune. I thought this sounds quite reasonable.

Don't our cars already have a cold air intake? That is why the intake sits above the radiator for air under the front lip of the bonnet.

Ok, sounds like the Powerduct at $180 would be a good buy.

Cheers

Andy

Yeah, I thought they were having themselves on.

I'll await the reply as to what products they have quoted on using, that will provide even more of a laugh I think

CAI for $790? Sounds expensive. Further info?

eg does it include a pod filter? any cutting in the engine bay performed? Is it legal?

Piggyback ecu for $3000? I think I know who you have been talking to.

I believe that they use the Haltech 350z Platinum as a piggyback in that particular install.

You would be better off buying an eManage Ultimate with additional sensors and get you turbo hiflowed for that kind of money...

Unless it is a ViPEC install & tune

bloody expensive...you can redo your turbo and ECU for cheeper.

I only have the ECU to go

+1 :P

  • 4 months later...
i have the ECU, wanna swap for a hi-flow turbo :( joke

but those prices are........... not economically viable

so... whats the best CAI to buy then?

I thought you could put it in yourself? Am I wrong about this?

send cameron (iamhe77) a PM. he has a good DIY cold air intake on his car!

Cam put a pipe underneath the airbox, unfortunately thats where I placed the catch can. Im making an alloy powerduct today, hopefully it looks better than just leaving the hole open.

You would think it would be that easy wouldn't you?

Suuuuuuure.

Maybe you could move it to the other side Scotty?

Hey Cam,

I noticed your link mate... one question in the first photo your air filter is blue... mine is pink... hahaha

I'm guessing colours don't make a difference here? But I'm going to try out what you said about the rest... Good work! ahaha

I thought you were going to ask "one question" Lachlan.

My filter is an Amsoil Nanofibre filter which I find to be quite good.

Most of the pink ones are from a general service and are throw away items.

Colors don't make a difference at all, but wha the filter is comprised of makes ALL the difference

Haha, sorry Cam. Got a bit ahead of myself.

Ok, I took the airbox panel off a while ago.

But the other part will hopefully be done this weekend...

is there anything else I can do to make my stag go harder that isn't to do with electrical?

http://z.about.com/d/cars/1/0/f/S/ag_07shelbygt_coldair.jpg is that illegal?

Something like this could go well! hahaha http://www.torquenstein.net/viper_for_sale...ir%20Intake.jpg

    • I was getting anxious with the DVLA not knowing if the paperwork is fine or not, so I rang them. No update had been given, but I  was reassured that providing the box was ticked on the V750 then the application will go through fine. I've been checking the DVLA website pretty much every day, in the hope that it would have been done. Fast forward to Monday 29th  and I was greeted with a new screen on the check, and it finally showed as Taxed and MOT'd, woohoo! The car was in desperate need of a clean, not knowing when this day was coming it was put off. As far as I was concerned I had another 3 weeks  I'm not normally one for using snow foam, but I wanted to give it another try It hasn't cleaned up too bad considering it's 21 years old and lived on a boat for a number of weeks. The personalised number plate is J2 XBK, an illegally spaced number plate would have it read J2X BK. BK could either represent  the colour black or Baker, which is my surname. I filmed the first drive, the Youtube link will be at the end. I used the same driving route I did with the 323F V6 when I had a new exhaust installed, heres a couple of photos A few more since then Youtube video can be viewed here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TjkFHPzjGDw
    • Thank you, 100% the intent. New coils were due and the 17" sixers look/feel loads better than the stock wheels. The aero options are so spot on.   Thanks for the warm welcome, all!
    • 98 r34 gtt Been rocking my latest setup and car running like never before. Have put a good 200 miles on it since all the latest changes and additions. everything is dialed in and have been driving it a bunch.   However, all a sudden last weekend as soon as I pushed throttle passed 4k and the engine stumbles, (slow or fast acceleration) hesitates and doesn’t go above 4100 or so, like a misfire. Everything else seems fine. I had a “good” set of coil packs that I removed from car when I first got it when I changed them over to new coils. I swapped out current ones for those, but no change. I also changed the plugs, no change. Seems to rev over 4 when out of gear with no load just fine no “misfire”, but as soon as its in gear with a load of any kind, it “misfires” as soon as rpm drop back below 4 k it runs perfectly, smooth, starts, restarts and drives fine as long as I keep it below 4 k while in gear. All readings look fine, no CEL   Any idea as to what could all a sudden cause an issue when pushing rpms passed 4 k?
