yup the softest setting on mine is pretty pussy, but its firm, like a new car.

i run mine around 7-8 at the rear, and about the same at the front, maybe a little softer so it doesnt rattle the entire front end off the car

It's always interesting to see the differences in peoples preferences, even when using very similar set ups. Stiff is not necessarily fast; but it can often give that impression.

I'm running 3 clicks in from full soft on the rear, and fully soft on the front. Before fitting my Sway Bars, I was running 3 clicks in from full soft on the front to get some bite on turn in, but once I had the bars on, I found the front wanted to follow every groove and was just too "darty" on turn in and had to soften it. I'm not running any Preload on my front springs as I feel it only adds to the bouncy feel (springs pushing back too hard on rebound) some people find with coilovers.

I still have stacks of bite on turn in, but the front end is much more compliant over choppy stuff and I believe it has more "feel" and is quicker in corners now. I think if you set up too stiff, you don't allow the weight transfer that is needed to get good mid corner grip and feedback. You just end up with a really sudden transition to understeer/oversteer; especially in wet conditions.

Like I said, not saying anyone is right or wrong; but I'm interested in others opinions in this regard.

Front 10kg/mm, rear 12kg/mm. That's the BR's, not sure about the V1's.

I'll go the BR's as there isn't much of a price difference.

Also where do you get adjustable bushes for the standard arms?

Whiteline do replacement bushes, but no adjustable one as far as I know.

Just got a quote from Paul, he's down to $1155 for the BC BRs. Got to love this dollar at the moment! 10 days delivery.

At that price, why would you buy V1s from Just Jap? They want $1149!

I need to do mine sooner rather than later, it just wallows awfully. Really ruins the great effect of the swaybars :(

Hi guys, been trolling through this thread for some time trying to find info on AXIS suspension.. but that aside. With all this talk of kg rates for fronts and rears.. doesn't ride quality also come down to rim size and tyres? I have 35 series tyres on 20" rims (came with the rims) with stock suspension. while being quite comfy it will still jar when hitting bumps and holes and will hop badly if taking a corner in a spirited manner :P and hitting a bump. Shouldn't there be a balance between tyre sizing and suspension tweaking? I know when I finally get my head around this car I will definitely be changing tyre sizes (maybe even rim size) and then try to balance the suspension to suit my driving. Not that there's much selection for the AXIS :(

I think AXIS is the same as any other NM35, so you should be fine with the BCs.

I know what you mean with tyres, found the same thing when I bought a car with 17" 35 series. Awful ride. Hated it. I'll be putting 18s or 19s on mine, the biggest I can use while maintaining 40-45 profile.

Funny thing is my parents have an Audi they bought with 19" 35 profile tyres, and the ride is fine.

IMO it does.....low profile IMO can look better(sometimes) but does mean better handling......I don't mind having a bit of a sidewall on the tyre not only to save the rim but to also stuff around with pressures to ensure the best response from your grip level in all circumstances......a bumpy road with 35 series tyres at speed can end up pretty messy and usually slower that 45 series tyres......naturally this all depends on the tyres your running!blush.gif

I thought i was in the same boat as ARX owners, being that we have HICAS and the wider track and higher stock suspension. I see the 'non ARX' note on each set of suspension and so fear the worst.

what width tyres are on the Audi? If they were like 335's or something killer like that the 35 profile would be much thicker than on our 225's and 235's

I'm actually thinking to change my rims to something smaller, maybe slightly wider and definitely thicker. I hate gutter bash so need bumper bowling tyres lol

agreed on all counts. sidewall definitely helps keep power to the ground, look at street drag radials. they can hook 1000hp no problem.. and its street legal! If the Stagea wasn't 4wd I would love to put a fat tyre on the rear, both for ride and handling

Axis is the same as RX and RS models for suspension.

RX and RS can both have HICAS.

Sorry mate, RX never had hicas as an option.

and AXIS has lower springs and different shocks, but yes the suspension is setup the same.

    • Hi, SteveL Thank you very much for your reply, you seem to be the only person on the net who has come up with a definitive answer for which I am grateful. The "Leak" was more by way of wet bubbles when the pedal was depressed hard by a buddy while trying to gey a decent pedal when bleeding the system having fitted the rebuilt BM50 back in the car, which now makes perfect sense. A bit of a shame having just rebuilt my BM50, I did not touch the proportioning valve side of things, the BM50 was leaking from the primary piston seal and fluid was running down the the Brake booster hence the need to rebuild, I had never noticed any fluid leaking from that hole previously it only started when I refitted it to the car. The brake lines in the photo are "Kunifer" which is a Copper/Nickel alloy brake pipe, but are only the ones I use to bench bleed Master cylinders, they are perfectly legal to use on vehicles here in the UK, however the lines on the car are PVF coated steel. Thanks again for clearing this up for me, a purchase of a new BMC appears to be on the cards, I have been looking at various options in case my BM50 was not repairable and have looked at the HFM BM57 which I understand is manufactured in Australia.  
    • Well the install is officially done. Filled with fluid and bled it today, but didn't get a chance to take it on a test drive. I'll throw some final pics of the lines and whatnot but you can definitely install a DMAX rack in an R33 with pretty minor mods. I think the only other thing I had to do that isn't documented here is grind a bit of the larger banjo fitting to get it to clear since the banjos are grouped much tighter on the DMAX rack. Also the dust boots from a R33 do not fit either fyi, so if you end up doing this install for whatever reason you'll need to grab those too. One caveat with buying the S15 dust boots however is that the clamps are too small to fit on the R33 inner tie rod since they're much thicker so keep the old clamps around. The boots also twist a bit when adjusting toe but it's not a big deal. No issues or leaks so far, steering feels good and it looks like there's a bit more lock now than I had before. Getting an alignment on Saturday so I'll see how it feels then but seems like it'll be good to go       
    • I don't get in here much anymore but I can help you with this.   The hole is a vent (air relief) for the brake proportioning valve, which is built into the master cylinder.    The bad news is that if brake fluid is leaking from that hole then it's getting past the proportioning valve seals.   The really bad news is that no spare parts are available for the proportioning valve either from Nissan or after market.     It's a bit of a PITA getting the proportioning valve out of the master cylinder body anyway but, fortunately, leaks from that area are rare in my experience. BTW, if those are copper (as such) brake lines you should get rid of them.    Bundy (steel) tube is a far better choice (and legal  in Australia - if that's where you are).
