Other notable GT cars that crack 2 tonnes:

The Bentley Continental R $100,000,000;)

and ahhhh... ?

:bahaha: ahahaha rezz

Sonic - i found this quote0 on drive.com.au

"The Coupe 4 has, by HSV standards, comparatively modest power. According to Holden chairman and CEO Peter Hanenberger, this was "to ensure the durability of the drivetrain".

Read that as the company being nervous as to whether the gearbox and possibly other components of the all-wheel-drive system could handle any more torque or power. Hanenberger said drivetrain development would continue."

also, comparing a 2002 gtr to a 2003 local car isnt the same. With the GTR you wont get warranty, you wont get insurance (unless your over 30).

i would say with the USED R34 GTR you have very little chance of even needing a warranty! compared to the holden, drive it out the showroom and it starts dropping it guts on the drive home!!

my nearly 10year old 33 has not even had the need for a warranty situation! Look at even older r32's! In "most cases" the worst that will need attention is a new timing belt and maybe if your unlucky a pricey part like a coil pack or something! -thats if your unlucky!

just shows what we all know - jap build quality and engineering is easily 10years more advanced than the local stuff.

-im not a holden hater, i love the monaro shape and the engines.. pity the diffs cant cope with extra power! If i remember an HPI article, LS1 EDIT car had a brand new hydratrak or whatever they use, and it was openwheeling majorly! You just cant have that sort of crap on a BIG power car.

Ahh the good old R200. STOCK STANDARD VISCOUS LSD in a 9sec car! (TRY09s) Bloody incredible engineering to get that much strength out of a diff that size, when compared to the heavy old ford 9inch. (the subzero car may have changed internals by now, but it did run the std diff.

Can some one please List the prices of brand new, hi performance luxury coupes eg. Merc SL55, BMW M3, Mustang Coupe, Dodge Viper etc. IN respect i think its valued at a pretty good price. So it might not be the quickest car, so it might not be the best handling car, though if thats what holden or hsv wanted to achieve i do believe they have enough funds to do that. Still, Fords are better then Holdens.

Whats stopping you lazybones?:(

i can give ya M3 specs...

BMW M3 - bout $150K

256kw 3.2ltr, Straight Six N/A (now that's some engineering)

0 - 100 - 5.4secs.

Kerb weight 1490kg

Regarded as one of the best handling cars around, and having one of the best engines notes of any car. Also got every luxury gizmo under the sun

Mercedes SL55 AMG - $369,900 (really?, i'll take 2 then! :()

5.4 ltr V8 (Supercharged) 368kw

0 - 100 4.7 secs

Kerb weight 1965kg

From what i've read, despite the weight, due to Merc's active suspension (much like BMW's suspension on the 7 Series) there is little body roll and the car still handles brilliant. But what else would u expect from a $368K merc?

I'd still sooooo be going the M3 at this stage.

Dodge Viper - (can't find price, assume.... shitloads) :(

336kw 8.0ltr V10 !!!!

0 - 100 4.3 secs

Kerb weight 1572kg

I've heard pretty hard on the brakes, but who would care if you could afford one. Again, from what i've read great car, but a pretty rough and ready ride. Sort of strap urself in...

From what i found on the Mustang, not even worth a mention amongst there vehicles. Unless i'm missing the top spec one or something.

Could throw in the M3 CSL, 265kw's, 3.2 ltr Straight Six N/A - $210,000kg - 1380kg. 0 - 100 bout 4.8 secs.

But yeah, it's a very weird category the 4WD Monaro is in. Has a snowballs chance in hell to compete with a WRX Sti/Evo - half the price, and no hope of competing against. And they're ur 4WD performance cars.

But then it's cheaper than any Euro model, Audi S's, BMW M's, Merc AMG's - Whilst cheaper it has no-where near the same performance/gear/technology/innovation/quality, etc.

So really, if there is a market for it, it should do well bcos no ones else is around!

Conclusion? I'd buy an STi if we have to choose new cars, and couldn't go over $100K.

cheers.

after luxury car tax and all that tax bullsh1t, the price of these new 4wd monaro would be well over 100k... best bet is to wait for a while, (assuming in the meantime, not all that many ppl would buy them so the dealers get desperate), and drop into any holden dealership.... they would give u more than 10k discount off the retail price... :(

we've given 11k discount to our customer who bought an senator last month... :(

Just because it is 4WD does not mean it is going to be any good ! ! !

What sort of 4WD system are we talking about ? Is it a constant 4WD like a WRX or a Range Rover ? Or is it going to be something a bit more sophisticated like ATESSA ?

Is it is going to be a front beam axle mounted on leaf springs, I assume it will be independent..... So many questions.

It might actually be pretty good, or it might not. Lets wait and see. Should add 120Kg and about thirty grand to the price I reckon.

I think it would be the same awd system they developed for the Adventura and the one they are going to put on the cross 8 (4wd V8 Crewman).

Most people who will drive this car have too much money to spend and when you have that much money you want the little extras most of the time so I dont think it would have made sense to strip the car down and make it lighter to improve performance at the expence of luxury. Needs to come out in a manual though unless they have found a WAY better auto gearbox.

All in all a sweet car.

I got a chance to drive the 4wd set up in a Mule monaro bout 6months ago and have also driven gtr's and I would still go for the gtr. The 4wd system will also be put up as an option on all commodores and the rest of the range next year. Little tip look out for the H.S.V version of the Adventera now that is a mean piece of kit. Would almost rival a stagea.

, and having one of the best engines notes of any car

Cant agree with that comment...ive heard a few stock M3s being driven hard and they sound like crappy Corollas with stock exhausts.

Maybe in the car they sound a bit different, but outside they sound pretty ordinary... still kill for one though.

I think the 4wd is more marketing then performance, good on them though... i hope the 4wd platform still allows for LHD variants.
