Can someone with an RB30DET in their R32 GTSt, please measure from the exhaust cam cover to the strut tower and tell me what they get?

Cheers!

~200 mm with RB26 head and cam covers.

That's with the engine lowered ~15 mm on the engine mounts

Thanks for that, I measured 205mm on my mates GTS4 with RB25/30 and 190mm on my GTSt with RB25/30..

Have put brand new engine mounts in along with a known matching set of RB20/R32 brackets (originally had an RB30 bracket on the passenger side) but still trying to figure out where the missing 10-15mm has gone.. will be trying a new engine crossmember on the weekend just incase mine is bent or isn't actually an RB20/R32 crossmember.

Having problems with turbo hitting strut tower but even if I get that 10-15mm back I still need to gain another 15mm or so from somewhere :P

P.S. Nice slotting on the stock engine mount brackets, didn't think of that when I was having bonnet clearance issues!

If the turbo is hitting the strut tower it must be fair tilted over.

I dropped mine 13 and 14mm. However since its settled over the years (fitted new engine mounts) it does appear to be sitting a tad lower.

If I jack up the car the sway bar slightly kisses the sump.

CAn you slot the drivers side more to give oyu more room?

That's exactly what I did :bunny:

Had 3x R32's in the workshop (my gtst, another gtst and a gts4), after taking sevearl critical dimensions, my car isn't bent so got pissed off and redrilled the holes on the drivers side 15mm lower :)

The engine mounts have tabs as well as studs. If you install them in the wrong side, the tab stops the stud dropping down the slot in the subframe and that raises the engine. Maybe you just have the RHS engine mount around the wrong way and that is kicking up that side of the engine. You can see the slots, tabs and studs from underneath, so it's easy to check.

Cheers

Correct mounts on the correct sides with the correct brackets and everything is seated properly, spent many, many hours making sure :P

not sure what brackets you have now but it's important to note that the RB30 brackets sit the motor back about ~5-10mm compared to the rb20 brackets. can help allot with bonet fouling issues but if you matched up an rb30 exhaust side bracket and a rb20 bracket on the intake side then your engine could be sitting potentially horizontally twisted (depending how much give are in your mounts) with the front facing your L/H headlight. plus if your going to buy a new crossmember you could just get a ceffy member which sits it further back again.

if you wanted to change everything then go for the 33 turbo x member and brackets with rb20/30 mounts. probably not that much off an issue to do that though. mine is in a silvia and it is a problem with them!

    • Nice shot! They look super clean. The roof rack delete on the black one is interesting. Would like to see more pictures from different angles. It's subtle but could make quite a difference to how the car looks in profile.
