Hi all.

I was just after some advice on what people have used and what brand have proven to be good quality.

I'm after some adjustable camber arms and caster rods for the front of my GTSt. It is used for track and drift.

I currently have whiteline bushes and they have been good but now I want more adjustment.

What brands are easy to get in aus and good value for money?

This thread had a bit of info. Click

thanks

Russ

When I bought my 32 it came with adjustable castor rods, i'm not sure which ones they are but the rods themselves are much thicker than most of the ones pictured, probably similar to the tune agent ones but different design, no worries with them whatsoever. There's a group buy going on at the moment for pivoting upper front camber arms think there $400 a pair, i've been looking around at the different options and this type seem to be the best option, I really want to get a pair for both my cars but don't have the cash at the moment :P

whiteline do some adjustable arms with urethane bushing, reliable design, somewhat outdated (as far as clearance for larger coilovers go at the rear), and u have the aussie support.

as far as rose joint stuff, cusco and ikeya formula are ur best bet for quality.

theres also a bloke here in SA looking to start making proper quality stuff as an alternative to the junk which makes up the majority of the market atm.

Hey Russell, I got my cusco castor rods and cusco rear camber arms on a trip to Adelaide from Japanese Import Spares. I had just planed on buying s/h items but after inspecting all the s/h stock they had I was a bit apprehensive, and I was kind of in the mind set of do it once do it right, so I ended up getting new ones. Although when I got my arms they were a lot cheaper then, than the price they have listed now. But I guess if you’re ever over that way they do a better price for cash.

Russ what are your current alignment specs, and what are you hoping to achieve? The Noltec front upper arms would be the way to go, but again they are pretty pricey and quite hard to get. I ended up going with the 33 lca's, many people would argue that that is the wrong way to go about it, but i can only give positive feed back, for the price they are a good cheap upgrade. They gave me -2.5 degrees of camber up front. I haven't heard a lot about the Kazama stuff but there seems to be a few people running them, hopefully they can provide some feed back. My guess is that they would be better quality than some of the other brands getting around but not quite as good as the high end Japanese stuff.

Have you checked the bump steer? Ackerman?

Cheers

Gary

Whaaa? SK... Do i see a ghost ? :P

I looked at Kazama gear and frankly, i would stick with the Cusco castor rods. If you cant get the Noltec upper arms then i would bust John and UAS in Sydney in the chops and see if he has his upper arms production ready yet. They seemed to be a good lcoally engineered product that are being R&D in the wraith of a car of his.

I think i only paid about $350 for my Cusco castor rods

Nope. But after your group buy fell through i had to look at alternataves. The 33 lca's were nearly three quarters cheaper than any of the upper arms available. Seeing as not many people were running them i thought i would give it a shot, and seat of the pants review, they provide more gains than drawbacks. I still have my 32 lca's and if i ever do find some decent front uppers, such as the noltecs, i'll put the 32 lca's back on.

Brake fetish is over. I am back to my wanting a 9,000rpm 300rwkw RB20 :)

yes please.

i think i might be throwing u a PM in the future, was originally gonna be like every other f**ker out there and put a RB30 in, but starting to think a build RB20 is the way to go.

Yeah man. RB20's are sweet. Mine gets 1.5-1.6 Bar all the time and it loves it!

What am I hoping to achieve? Well I mainly want adjustability so I can try stuff to see if it works etc. I have camber and castor bushes (whiteline) that give some adjustment but I want to tinker and fiddle with stuff and learn while I'm at it. I do need more camber though so that's the main thing.

Was thinking about 33 lca's but yeah... Heard it's not the best way to go. I don't have buckets of cash so if I buy stuff it will be one at a time as I continue to develop the car.

apparently 33 LCA's will get u -1 degree either side. they are next on my list. but i think ill hold out til this guy i was talking about has developed a few suspension items. he is using all the best quality stuff, and all machining is done in australia. atm its just a backyard operation, but with the amount of research he has done u can be guaranteed the products are going to be top notch and even better in some instances than some of the top products. the only difference is he wont have the same margin as companies like cusco etc

Any idea when this will be?

no idea sorry, he's working on some stuff atm, i think he's still working with local machiners to get the price right, the funny part is his prices will probably still be competitive and in a lot of instances cheaper than the brands which just rebadge generic stuff from china/taiwan, its not so hard to understand however when u look at the incredible markup placed on the generic stuff.

    • The rain is the best time to push to the edge of the grip limit. Water lubrication reduces the consumption of rubber without reducing the fun. I take pleasure in driving around the outside of numpties in Audis, WRXs, BRZs, etc, because they get all worried in the wet. They warm up faster than the engine oil does.
    • When they're dead cold, and in the wet, they're not very fun. RE003 are alright, they do harden very quickly and turn into literally $50 Pace tyres.
    • Yeah, I thought that Reedy's video was quite good because he compared old and new (as in, well used and quite new) AD09s, with what is generally considered to be the fast Yokohama in this category (ie, sporty road/track tyres) and a tyre that people might be able to use to extend the comparo out into the space of more expensive European tyres, being the Cup 2. No-one would ever agree that the Cup 2 is a poor tyre - many would suggest that it is close to the very top of the category. And, for them all to come out so close to each other, and for the cheaper tyre in the test to do so well against the others, in some cases being even faster, shows that (good, non-linglong) tyres are reaching a plateau in terms of how good they can get, and they're all sitting on that same plateau. Anyway, on the AD08R, AD09, RS4 that I've had on the car in recent years, I've never had a problem in the cold and wet. SA gets down to 0-10°C in winter. Not so often, but it was only 4°C when I got in the car this morning. Once the tyres are warm (ie, after about 2km), you can start to lay into them. I've never aquaplaned or suffered serious off-corner understeer or anything like that in the wet, that I would not have expected to happen with a more normal tyre. I had some RE003s, and they were shit in the dry, shit in the wet, shit everywhere. I would rate the RS4 and AD0x as being more trustworthy in the wet, once the rubber is warm. Bridgestone should be ashamed of the RE003.
    • This is why I gave the disclaimer about how I drive in the wet which I feel is pretty important. I have heard people think RS4's are horrible in the rain, but I have this feeling they must be driving (or attempting to drive) anywhere close to the grip limit. I legitimately drive at the speed limit/below speed the limit 100% of the time in the rain. More than happy to just commute along at 50kmh behind a train of cars in 5th gear etc. I do agree with you with regards to the temp and the 'quality' of the tyre Dose. Most UHP tyres aren't even up to temperature on the road anyway, even when going mad initial D canyon carving. It would be interesting to see a not-up-to-temp UHP tyre compared against a mere... normal...HP tyre at these temperatures. I don't think you're (or me in this case) is actually picking up grip with an RS4/AD09 on the road relative to something like a RE003 because the RS4/AD09 is not up to temp and the RE003 is closer to it's optimal operating window.
    • Either the bearing has been installed backwards OR the gearbox input shaft bearing is loosey goosey.   When in doubt, just put in a Samsonas in.
