Hi! I know that the carbon fibre and fibreglass of the Z Tune bonnet is illegal to have in Vic. ( as long you don't get busted :bunny: )

But if i get a bonnet scoop like this one:

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi...mMakeTrack=true

And get it moulded to my original bonnet. Is that legal?

I know that some of you will ask or even bag me about having the z tune bonnet when i worried about it being legal or illegal.

Well if i do get defected, i wouldnt know how the hell i would get time to get it fixed and also the money involved to get it fixed.

Therefore looking for a alternative to get the Z Tune Look.

general rule is any non-standard or rather non-factory part without ADR approval is illegal. I think if you get a V-spec II CF bonnet or Z tune GENUINE bonnets then they will be legal as they are factory standard.

Look-a-like bonnets without ADR approval are illegal. Maybe it differs between states...

I have a mock up z tune bonnet on mine, rarely get hassled about it then again my car is all black so it doesnt stand out as much. pretty much another carbon fibre or fibre glass is illegal to have unless it is ADR approved mentioned above. i'm unsure of the genuine factor of a v spec / z tune bonnet but i can imagine getting your hands on a geniune one will cost you an arm and a leg!

oh and if you were to get defected for it, the only way to clear it would to put on your stock bonnet and clear it with it on, bonnets are very easy to take on and off and swap, only 4 bolts. just need the extra hands there to help put it on.

Like everyone above said...if it's not from the factory then it's illegal. Moreover, you're going to cut through the bonnet and mount the vent yourself - so this means you're tempering with the stock bonnet, I would say it will definitely be illegal. However, having said that - most Skylines on the road aren't stock - far from it, so like, who cares...you'll be done anyway...if you're car is stock, then that's a different story...you get my drift, right?

stock bonnets aren't expensive ..I've seen quite a few range from $100-300 both here on SAU and various skyline shops (as a lot of people trade theirs in when getting an aftermarket one) so if you eve get defected ... but having said that, why not just keep your stock bonnet just in case? Whatever you do please don't get one of these stick-on fake ztune vents ..it just looks tacky and ghey and brings shame to your village..

Fair Enough, but if i get defected, doesnt that mean that i have to change bonnet, spend money to get RWC and then show the cops the RWC agian?

Plus i just got a quote, $250 to mould and $250 to Paint my bonnet = $500, might as well just get a Fibreglass version LOL

Why don't you just get a R34 GTR V-Spec II bonnet?

Comes from factory Carbon Fibre and has a NACA Duct for cooling on the turbo side.

Or even buy the 3" NACA Duct from www.kenlowe.com.au (based in Qld) and buy a little bit of SAAS black mesh.

On his website, just scroll down to 'Raceglass Composites - bodies, scoops' and scroll again till you see 4" & 3" NACA Ducts

The Duct costs $49 + GST + Post. It's an exact copy of the VS II

Placed in the correct spot, the Duct does not interfere with the reinforcement underneath.

Where is the cheapest place to get a genuine vspec II bonnet?

Im presuming they will be 1-2k?

    • Mine is all -12, I’m running a dry sump in a billet block though
    • HG's high flow is not "bolt on". The core is shorter, moves the comp cover rearwards in the engine bay. means you have to deal with the inlet plumbing a little bit. This is probably something to consider with every "bolt on" turbo anyway.
    • HyperGear. Just get a high flow of the stocker. Good, reliable, and should bolt on. Yes it will want things like a retune once done, so you need to factor this in to your spend too.
    • Hi. Iam looking for some "cheaper" bolt on turbo on RB25DET NEO. I do not want "big" power just better reliability than the stock turbo which is "fot now" good but is old and i do not think it has "easy" life. One the Skyline here running some "temu" china Turbo but i dont trust those... Thanks!
