Okay bout a week ago I had a 4 hour long phone call with Old mate Duncan and out stupid minds turned to Space frame Cars. After scouring through My105 we found a few interesting ones but nothing that fitted the bill.

So A little R32 GTS-T bare shell happened to fall into my lap last night and its now been decided that it will become a fully space framed R32.

Basicly we're (jay is being roped into the build) going to cut the entire floor pan and chassis out from under the shell and retain the original sills, A pillar, B pillar and part of the C pillar in accordance to the rules.

From whats left we'll build a comprehensive space frame chassis that will incorperate everything that needs to be there and nothing that doesn't

Engine wise we have to retain a max capacity of 6Litres, So a stroked RB33/26 is to be built. We've already got enough calipers and parts to build a car so there is really not much to purchase other than Chassis related rose joints etc etc. The Idea is to mount the block so that the 3rd cylinder is under the windscreen line. From previous cars and talking to a couple of well known suspension experts this is the best we're going to get with an inline 6. Obviously anything that needs to be fabricated to make it work will be done.

The body will be a composite Moulded shell based on an R32 GTR but I think it was 130mm wider each side Duncan and I decided.

There is a heap of discussion going on between several people about the way its going to happen but im open to suggestions from people about the best way to mould a body and so forth. Chassis work is no problem been there done that. Its the stuff we've not done before thats going to be interesting.

Here is the donor, kinda a shame to cut up a pretty straight shell but meh

Should be interesting.

Will be cutting the thing up in the next few weeks so will be sure to post up photos of what happens.

I think we've got alot of the bases covered besides actual suspension geometry the chassis is sorted design wise as is the body shell and components.

I've been looking at different designs to model the suspension off. Got a good idea which way were going to go with it.

Duncan your not getting outta this, it was your stupid idea that got put into my stupid head. Plasma cutter I rekon. Angle grinder makes too much noise for my neigbours precious ears.

Jay seen it this morning and his first sentence was What the f**k is that doing here!

Yeah rwd, hollinger and a quick change rear diff.

Already have everything running gear wise besides a tail shaft and engine.

We're building it to go play with the 6L chevy sports sedans at the local state rounds.

Yeah we have looked at that silvia. Someone should buy that thing its really well priced!

Its not exactly what I wanted and there is no real provision to fit an RB without cutting up the chassis.

Since we've got pretty much everything to build a car this way works out better in the long run.

Its a project more than anything so buying a car almost finished defeated the purpose of what I wanted to do.

When I built the white GTR I bought enough cage material to build 5 or 6 cages so we even have the material for the chassis.

Its an S13 if im not mistaken.

Doesnt really matter though cause not much of the S13 is really left.

The only R32 parts im using will be the door jams, A pillar, B pillar and bit of the C pillar. Roof will remain but thats bout it, No floor or chassis rails

Space framed race cars are basicly a chassis and rollcage with a fiberglass body over the top that resembles the car you want it to look like.

This is a space frame silvia that was mentioned earlier. Once the body shell is fitted it looks kinda like an S13 silvia.

    • I can see between the water jacket and cyl 3 there wasn't a hard line of combustion gas. It certainly appears that the issue is coming from there. Yes, checked the tension. All at 100ft lbs where I set them 5 years ago. These blocks can crack but generally when they have been over bored. Mine is only 0.5mm oversize at 89.5mm. They break between cylinders around the 91mm mark. No sign of that with mine. My gut feeling is the head gasket lifted a while back when the studs stretched and i bandaided it by retorquing the studs. It's finally let go.
    • My Nismo 1.5 churps a bit on reverse turns when cold, but besides that feels like a stock diff.
    • Yes, but, I paid cash and I'm pretty sure the receipt was in the bin 10 minutes after I got home Note to self, keep all receipts

    • So, version 4 intake is on its way I was looking at these a while ago but at around $200 or more it was a little pricey for something that might not work, but, I had it in my watch list, but, I got a message saying it was on special, and I had a code thingie to use, it eventually came in at $120 delivered, so BAM, BUY NOW.....LOL I'll need to have a look when it arrives but I feel it will "look" better than what I currently have, as it comes with a PCV fitting, so I will be able to get rid of the alloy pipe that goes to the throttle body with the PCV fitting  Well, that's what the voices in my head are telling me  Oh, and this happened today Yeap, it was a Trojan, and it was cheap, so I headed back to the hardware store and actually spent a little bit more on a heavy duty,  one that was actually recommended by a plumber mate, a Cyclone one with a fibreglass handle that is actually rated for clay The broken shovel will eventually be "modified" into a short handle shovel
