don't be fooled, there are many people that still run the bush-bearing turbos (inc. myself) as they still perform just as good as the ball-bearing turbos if you choose the correct wheel & housing combination.

i am actually running the same turbo (T04B 60-1 compressor wheel & a T03 sierra exhaust wheel in a A/R .84 split-pulse exhaust housing) on a 2L and it goes crazy for what it is, although it's a tad laggy for my liking as it's a street car.

fyi, it made ~300rwhp on 16-17psi, so there's plenty of flow there cos it just keeps on making power until the 7000rpm rev limiter.

we're hoping to bring it up to ~240-250rwkw (320-330rwhp) with a bit more boost but we'll see how she goes.

If space is a problem, then go for the T04E A/R .60 compressor cover which will still flow decent amount of air and allow and easier fitment.

Hey well... that is what i've been quoted from horsepowerinabox (or whatever it is)

So direct the confusion to them. I cant remember what exhaust housing it was with.

But i couldnt see why not. That's what they have told me, knowing it's on an RB25DET.

Look at the GT35/40 and the GT35... ovbiously mine would be the smaller housings.

and for the bigger 35/40, maybe even a wheel change or a special housing.

I agree with you there RS500 (as you'd know).

fyi too... my t3/4 has made 203rwkw on only 13psi

So it has a bit left i would think if i went to say.. 17-18psi

We saw a 30kw jump going from 13 --> 15psi, but then i came very close to maxing the injectors. So we wound it back to be safe.

I will also be keeping an internal gate with this setup which should be on the car before the end of November all things going well

Good luck with gett anywhere close to 300rwkw with an internal gate. Any turbo specialist will tell u not to bother with an internal gate when chasing that much power. Dont be a tight ass get a 45mm race gate like me. My 600hp rated custom made turbo will be finially ready to bolt up on Monday. :(

I know this is an old post but I am looking into  this turbo now. Is it bolt on to stock piping?

HKS GT2535 is getting real long in the tooth nowdays , came out in the very early 1990s . 

In the day the best thing about them was that they were a bolt on manifold and dump wise for an RB20/25DET . It used one of very few turbine housings that had a T3 mounting flange and the same dump pipe flange pattern as the original equipment ball bearing turbos on R32/33/34 RB20s and 25s .

These days most people hi flow the std BB turbos with a different cartridge (centre section inc wheels) and reprofile the std housings to suit slightly larger compressor and turbine wheels .

Either way the GT28 sized turbines are a bit small , and the HKS turbine housing is small AR wise for an RB25 anyway . Later HKS made what they called a "GTRS" which is similar to a GT2535 but with a slightly larger compressor wheel . Probably a better thing but still limiting on a RB25 , mine made 271 RWKW on E70 . An easy slight upgrade if all you want is 250-260 kw and gets rid of the std ceramic turbine issues .

Thank you for replying so quick bro. I’ll definitely look into it I’m excited to build this thing and honestly that is the power range I am looking for.

I don't think he was recommending the GTRS. That is also a very very old turbo. I would suggest that he is recommending a high flow.

I've been running one for the last 5 odd years - they are a great little turbo. I paid bugger all for mine

My current setup is HKS 2535, Blitz return flow intercooler, 3" exhaust, pump, injectors and e85 - makes 280rwkw at 20psi and has minimal lag. Made 255 running 98 for years before I went to e85

Fitting wise, I couldn't use the stock oil and water lines, I had to get a kit from MTQ - they had this as a off the shelf kit. The stock oil drain also doesn't fit, so I had to buy one from MTQ also

I also had to use a silicone 90 degree elbow off the compressor housing, as mine didn't come with the HKS 90 degree bend. The dump pipe is bolt on, I have a split style that merges a fair way down the dump pipe

I've attached a dyno comparison between the stock turbo making 190kw v the 2535. Now the curve is much the same but another 25kw

Yep, that's the path I'll most likely end up going - however this is doing the job well at the moment

I’m located in Japan. I’m tying to get somewhere between 340-400. So I’m playing with notion of bolt on exhausts. Disclaimer: I’m new to turbo chargers. Also one of my local shop has the that turbo for sale used for around $400.  I’m trying to make an informed purchase without breaking the bank lol.

Old 2nd hand turbos are a risk. That turbo could be fine, or it could be f**ked. If it's f**ked in a way that you can't tell before you install, then you waste all the money spent on taking the car apart and putting it back together. Doubled, because you have to put the original turbo back on. If it is f**ked in such a way that it dies 10 minutes or 10 weeks down the track, it's the same, but worse, because you could be out on the highway somewhere, stuck in the snow. It's your gamble. You're probably more likely to blow up your original turbo though!

There are many people around the world that can highflow a stocker. If you were in Oz I would have recommended that you contact Hypergear in Melbourne. You could still get a turbo from him, even from Japan. Have a look at their site. There are many options on the site - can be confusing. Just contact them direct if you want to go down that path and need help.

    • No, you're wrong, and you've always been wrong about this. The Nismo has 2 sets of openings. One is a real 2-way, and the other is a 1-way. There is no 1.5-way possible with the ramps that they offer. A real 1.5-way does exist. That Cusco stuff I posted is a prime example. If the forward drive ramps are, say 55°, and the overrun ramps are, say, 30°, then you will get about half as much LSD effect on overrun than you do on drive. It is real, it realy works. OK, you're slightly right. The Nismo has 55° and 45° ramps on the 2-way, so it does offer less LSD effect on overrun. But, I think that just means that they've (probably) sensibly established that you do not want actually equal LSD effect on overrun. You just want "quite a lot, but not quite as much as the drive LSD effect".

    • Yea, that is what I was getting at in my ramblings too. The nismo one actually is a 1.5 way and a 1 way. They don't do a *2* way because a true *2* way would have equal ramp angles. Or is that a true 1.5 way? Realistically I think a "1.5 way" does not actually exist. A diff can either lock in two directions or one. It also doesn't help that a LOT of people in Australia speak about 1.5 way diffs are referring to their 1 way diff.
    • Well, the trouble with that ^^ is: The configuration shown is absolutely a 1-way, not a 1.5-way. There is no way that a 1.5-way can be said to offer LSD action only on acceleration. If Nismo cannot get that right, then it is impossible to believe their documentation. That ^ is not a 1.5 way setup. That is a 1-way.   And so now I have allowed all doubts to flourish and have gone back to look at the MotoIQ video. I originally made the mistake of believing him when he said "this is a 1.5-way" at the ~6:10 mark. Because what he did was take the gear assembly out of the 2-way opening and just rotate it one place to the left to drop it into the 1-way opening. When he dropped it in there, the cam was "backwards" compared to the correct orientation shown in all other photos of that config. The flat shold have been facing the 1° ramp side of the opening, not the 55° ramp side. And I thought, "gee that's cute", but I was concerned at the time, when he put the other ring back on, that the gap between the rings looked like it was wider then in the 2-way config. And then I said a lot of things in my long post on Tuesday that could only make sense if the guy from MotoIQ was correct about what he'd done. BUT... I have now done my homework. I grabbed a frame of the video with the 2-way config, and then grabbed another with the "1.5-way" config, snipped out the cam and opening of that frame and just pasted it direct on top of the 2-way config. I scaled it so that the triangular opening was almost exactly the same height in both. AND.... the gap between the plates is wider with the cam installed in the triangualr opening backwards. That is.... it cannot go together that way. There would be massive force on the plates all the time, if you could even reassemble it.  So, My statement on the matter? The Nismo diff is actually only a 2-way and 1-way. There is no 1.5-way option in it, regardless of what they say. Here's a photo of a real 1.5-way ramp opening from Cusco (along with the 1 way option). And the full set of 1 through 2 way options from their racing diff, which is not same-same as what we'd typically be using, but...the cams work the same. A little blurry, but it comes from this Cusco doc, which is quite helpful. AND.... Cusco do in fact do what I suggested would be sensible, which is to have rings that do 1 and 1.5, and 1.5 and 2. Separately.
