Yepp,

That looks about right. Shame it's in 3rd gear, although I'm not sure if it'd make a difference anyway.

That dip in power is normal for a GTS-t with a bit of boost. The dip get's worse as you wind up the boost :(

The A/F ratio's are also typical for a stock ECU. Running pretty rich up top.

Mine pulled 160 with the same mods but with a stock air box and a FMIC, so yours look pretty good.

Cheers

J

i got 153rwkw on 9psi with a power dip like that....

but thats with stock dump, 2.5" cat..only mod is a front pipe so there's more restriction in mine...

after teh AFC tune I got 190rwkw, still stock dump/cat

200rwkw with de-cat and dump pipe should be about right :(

Add a FMIC + Bosch 040 Fuel Pump + boost set to 12psi and you have my car... = 180rwkw

You may need to change the description you wrote about your car (just below your avtar). I'll let you know what mine is running tommorow evening - putting it on the dyno tommorow arvo

Good to here its about average.

Dual boost controller is set up for about 10PSI at the moment but needs a bit more adjustment.

I'm attempting the FMIC install tomorrow, should open her up a bit! If all goes well I'll post some pics of the ghetto home job :(

Mark let us know how yours go's with the new Turb's?

My 96 Gtst has similar mods, Pod filter, Intercooler (large), HKS EVC boost controller set to 0.75 bar or 10.5psi, 3" exhaust all the way, plus hi flow cat and pulled 190kw at rear wheels. I will post my chart up once I get the pic scanned as my scanner ain't working.

Anyone else pulling similar power figures.

My engine has done only 60,000km. It also made 203kw at 0.90 bar, but they advised me I had a more reliable long term package this way with less boost especially for the turbos sake.

Paul:burnout:

Since power is simply a measuring of rate of work, it shouldn't matter to a great extent what gear the car is in. The engine still revs from 0 to redline whether you're in 3rd gear or reverse. There are some slight differences because engines respond differently according to load, but it shouldn't matter too much. As long as you do each dyno run in the same gear each time you will be able to get the tuning right.

The reason why Skylines (and similar Jap cars) usually get dyno'd in 3rd gear is because in 4th they can run into the 180kph speed limiter.

How much difference are we talking here though? If a car has say 200rwkw in 3rd gear, what would it have in 4th?

Edit: Hmm, maybe I'm not understanding this power thing then. I know that lower gears give you more torque, but you have less top speed. So in theory the power should work out to around the same in a taller gear, because you have less torque but more top speed. Someone educate me!

That's pretty good with 146 rwkw.

But just one question to all you guys here that has had their car dyno.

I have been reading some other threads on this forum and it has come to my attention that not all Dyno has the same reading.

Like your car might be 146 rwkw on this dyno but on someone else it might be more or less.

If this is so, how can we really compare our difference in kw output as we all would have dyno our cars on different machine?

See that is what I don't really get, isn't there like a standard for these dyno machine so that even if they are set different, on a special mode it would be relatively the same standard as the next machine. Or is that what the 'Shoot-out mode' is for?

It is just weird and don't really make much sense to me.

As I soon will want to dyno my car but whether how accurate it is, that is my question.

We can't  This has been discussed and argued about many many times before here and everywhere else dynos are discussed. The best you can get from them is a rough guide. Most of them seem to be roughly within 10% of each other, so it's pretty obvious that a car with 250rwkw is going to be a lot more powerful than a different car running 150rwkw on a different dyno.

Generally speaking of course, because you can callibrate the dyno to read whatever you like. But if the second car was "tweaked" to read 250rwkw, it would be pretty obvious that it wasn't legit just by going for a ride in the car. Or even looking at some of the mods.

Even a 1/4 mile time can't accurately judge how much power you've got, because there are considerations such as driver skill, suspension setup, tyres, and sometimes just luck (good or bad). But again, it can give you a pretty good idea. ie, a Skyline running 11 seconds definitely is not stock.

Comparing power outputs is just a pissing match anyway, so I'm kind of glad that you can't compare dyno readings directly.

Well imagine if you had 300nm of torque at 150kmh, if you had the same 300nm at 200kph, power would be lower.

I am not sure exactly how much difference it makes, just does make some difference.

I realise that, but say you were in redline at 3rd gear and doing say 100kph. At redline in 4th you would be putting less torque to the ground but the speed would be higher, which would indicate the same amount of work being done (just geared differently).

Down low the power readings will be lower in the taller gear but I would think that the peak power should be roughly the same no matter what gear you are in.

    • Seat of the pants assessment of the new intake: The car is way less "doughy" when hitting the loud pedal, especially off idle when stopped or in traffic, I did use a cheapo lazer thermal thingo to measure the temp around where the pod filter got its air, it was between 55 - 60°C, in saying this the car was shut off and not moving, so the OEM intake pipe was not supplying any fresh air to where the pod was when the car was at least moving A weird bonus was induction noise on the throttle in the cabin increased a bit,  I was worried that I was actually going to lose some of that induction noise I love so much, outside though, when I got the daughter to do a WOT drive by pass for me, the induction noise has increased alot when on the throttle, not quite ITB doort, but well up there I'm extremely happy with the results and have been exploring the country roads in the region  As for house mods: 1.New front fence is up and is awesome, it really upgraded how the joint looks from the street, and the added security is nice 2. Electricians have replace some interior lights, and with more lighting in the garage, a few new motion detecting lights out the front above the garage, front room, and at the front door, which I have already found heaps helpful coming and going, also now has fancy pants CCTV all round the house The only hold point for power though is the solar and batteries due to supply issues, although this will happen over the next few weeks 3. I have done a heap of landscaping out the front and I'm almost ready to do a new small retaining wall with some nice blocks to replace the brick and cemented in rocks around the raised garden beds cemented in river stone "was the fashion at the time" the house was built. I currently have a pallet of retaining wall blocks and 2 bulka bags of 20mm blue metal to replace the wood chip that is in the raised garden beds around the house 4. I now have 3 big raised garden beds for out the back to grow some vegetables, about 70cm high, 200cm long and 100cm wide 5. My 2 compost bins are already pretty full with brown, green and kitchen waste from the landscaping I'vedone so far, but they will probably take a few months to break down, so anything else that gets chopped, trimmed, and kitchen waste will just start filling the base of the raised garden beds to about 30cm before I start throwing 40cm of good compost, and stuff, for the vegetables to grow in, I'll need a few ton of compost and soil, but the local supplier can sent me bulka bags of the stuff Basically the logs, wood chips and a few strategically placed rocks for drainage, will give the beds some good organic materials down low to break down over time, and they will hold moisture during the warmer months to save the water in my big arse water tank if we don't get alot of rain So, all in all, the car and house mods are going well, and I'm really enjoying being retired, I sleep in too 0700 and slowly plod around inside until I feel like actually doing anything, and only work in the yard for as long as want, which has actually been alot over the last few weeks,  although when you look at it, it seems that not a huge amount of work has been done,  until I look at the before I started the work pics Happy days and good times indeed
    • hahaha yeah. Plan is to get side skirts and probably just rear pods. But going to do them one-by-one. I've got a set that I really like from RHDJapen, but that one isn't shipped to AU. So need to find someone who can get it for me
