I'm considering custom plates for my car. The plate sizes in the plate style I require are 372mm x 132mm. Rear can be ground down the 355mm wide to fit. Front is a different matter. At 132mm high it starts to hang over the intercooler / red opening too much so thinking of an offset front bar mount.

Anyone done this and any pics. I guess it would mean screwing into the front bar which I'm not loving. Perhaps there are other options for the full size 372 x 132 being mounted on the front?

Ive got the cusco mount kit for the front, never used it though. But i plan to quite soon.

Are Vic and NSW plates the same size on the rear?

If so, this was done without cutting/mods;

Thanks Steve. Can you post up pics once you've got the front fitted? The GTR has an indent in the bar where you'd normally fit the plate, so might look odd if nothing is in there. Be interested to see how that plays out. Based on measurements I took from the Vic Rds website and off my car I reckon std pates are 17mm too wide for the rear. Can be gound down to fit. Really you need a slimline plate for the front central position.

hi guys, jus a quick question...is it illegal to mount my front number plate on the side? Im jus wondering coz I wanna get a bit of better flow for my intercooler..Im thinking of just using cable ties to hold it on, even temporarily so if i do get any attention i can just pop it back the way it was.

anyone had trouble for moving the plates?

i have a GTR bar on my car and i just used self tappers, well not so much self tappers but normal screws that i forced until they became self tappers, and placed the full width slimline plates that i have over the indent...

i sat it a little higher aswell so you would never know that the indent was there and it doesn't interrupt flow

Good idea. Did you pack out the indent? I'm thinking of using the full sized plate (no slimline available) so could end up looking a little large.......

I hav a Trust style bar that im goin to put onto my car and a mate and I just made a custom mount off to the drivers side,

I sort of wanted it to look like it was meant to be there so we just countersunk it into the bar a little bit.

Its not painted yet so I cant show you the finished product but this should give you a fair idea.

when i got my car, it had slim line plates on the front screwed into the lower lip. i have a new front lip now and i didnt want to screw into that so i did the cheap ass way and just cable tied it on and had foam padding on the back so it didnt cut into the lip. I bought the cusco bracket but i never used it os i like my plates where they are. the rear plates are the standard size and i had to bend the edges to make them fit.

Your R32 GTR has a nice neat fit for the number plates.

I got the slim line ones too but the edges had to be bent for the rear and the front needed a slight bending so it does not rub on the front bar.

Call me boring or traditional, but just get slim ones and put it in the centre are on the front. Anywhere else is gay in my opinion.

NUMB3R5 A5 L33T3R5... only avail in full ghey spec size....

you could mount it there in full size, but it will not fit 100%.

with the slimline's i lined them up so the bottom is flush with the top of the I/C hole

might be a side mount job for you me thinks

AHAHahahah.... yeah, I am so boring... I think just put them in the middle but instead, mount them a bit higher so it doesn't cover up the intercooler so much...anywhere else (accept in the case of some EVO's where it's standard) is gay and so "hey hey, look at me, I got mine mounted on the side - whoopey different...!" hhihiih

No probs will do

Vic plates must be longer then, i was worried about putting BNR32 on as the old plates had been modified to fit although if the previous person to fit plates to it actually gave a sh!t he/she couldve done it without butchering the old plates. They were just generic ABC123 plates so i guess the carefactor wasnt high at all

anyone got pics of a 32 gtr with the plates mounted off-side?

i just drive around with no plate on the front, or just sitting on my dash with double sided tape.. so far no issues, dunno how much longer that'll last though

    • What bedding in procedure did you use?   When you say stutter, what exactly do you mean? Like it feels like someone letting go of the brakes momentarily and regrabbing them again to get you to stop? Re-reading your post, and that is what it kind of makes me think you're explaining, like theres a little bit of a jolt, likely just as you're reaching a stop. I've only had this issue once. And if its caused by what caused mine, you will want to get the car up on stands again and check it over. Mine was a case of a caliper mounting bolt coming out and letting the caliper rotate on the other remaining bolt and gave play in a wheel as it came to a stop. But not every stop either!
    • Yeop... binned it   This will be a summary will not many pics atm and cbf  Fixed the samsonas - it was totally munched Put a new precision 7675 T4 on with proper split pulse mani Got to Sydney to get to car - drove to canberra to get racecar - drive back to sydney that night Next day all day at Plasmaman putting on new clamps cleaning some things up and adding another large engine oil cooler sitting at the rear above diffuser to keep things cooler Next day - Tuesday - on Dyno - killer wikid awesome pumped out really good numbers - more mid range and on lower boost levels Wednesday - first prac - all day again getting the suspension right - had to borrow front suspension again - out do a lap come in - out do a lap - in - what i had just couldnt handle the load at the more consistent higher speeds - got a lap in at the end of the day that was pretty reasonable  Put it this way that lap wouldve had me in 4th in Pro am for the whole event - with only 700 hp and used tyres Thurs first official prac day - lap out warm up - then entered a hotlap with above setting and 80% effort took corners 1,2,3 and into 4 car felt awesome -  rear came around out of nowhere bang into the wall near front on at whatever 140 kmph Done, over, gone Just one of those how did that happen apparently as all indications show nothing out of the ordinary Got to spend the rest of the time at the event like I hadnt done before - was actually Ok mainly as I had my family and my boy is 9 and got treated like a rockstar Long trip home, lost a trailer wheel in nowhere land, X5 airbag suspension gave up half way across nullabour and rode on bumps stops (its now completely fine) had to do a 19 hr drive day on day 3 as accommodation got screwed up so just had to keep driving till found a town with some Now to reassess - hopefully the motor and other things are OK but yet to be seen too. There is no easy fix there is no i'll just order that part and get it sent - we'll have a talk to people see what can happen and what the go is but at minimum its rebuild from scratch struts forward and alot of time effort and $ should and if I return and if but maybe/ when  I have the cage tied into the front strut towers - if I didnt have that things couldnt been worse you can say its just a front end but if you know what goes into these cars... you'll know what that actually means in reality   Car was very fast. Disappointing we just didnt get to show it Effort doesnt win you races though     Apparently this is motorsport !

    • It's almost certainly going to be some amount of pads compound transfer onto the rotors. It will probably go away after you've run them for a bit. If not, pull it all out, lightly sand the rotors, scuff the pads, and rebed.
