Hey guys,

what's the best air intake part to get?

I've been looking at Apexi Power intake...

What are your thoughts?

Oh and roughly how much more power does it give the car? And does it use less petrol?

Cheers

Do you want to use the stock box with aftermarket panel filter, or pod filter?

With a panel filter, any aftermarket one will flow better than a factory one. K&N or Trust are ones I would use. You can get them off an R34 Skyline, or S15's. They are all the same.

Pod filter, well I like the Blitz Sonic Power intake kit as it has this cool alloy enclosure over the pod filter so should remain legal (I guess...)

Depends where you are located.

In Melb (OP locale), you can have a pod, but nothing else to the intake (piping, FMIC etc).

The pod MUST in a sealed airbox of it is instant defect... which IS enforced.

If you are wanting a pod, look at either;

3A Racing ~$30 (check out the Autosalon comparo for filtration/flow)

Blitz SUS Power ~$280 (Stainless Steel mesh pod which never needs replacing - can be cleaned - doesn't have the greatest filtration and is commonly found on extreme HP setups in Japan - 1000hp+)

Blitz Sonic Power ~$320 (this is a Blitz LM pod with the alloy enclosure to speed up the velocity of the air and make a certain noise)

  • 1 year later...
The pod may fit but the shield would not fit in as the 350z is quite different.

Looks pretty close actually.

That said, it would be an expensive gamble, but I am sure if needed the shield could be "persuaded" to fit.

Dalton, you got anywhere you can try one on to see if it will fit like a retailer/performance shop etc?

whats the performance difference be between the K&N flat panel compared to the pod filter.. i was lucky to get the flat panel one (oil based on with the pink oil) with my m35.

would there be much difference of power other than the throaty noise of the pod. and does anyone know if theyre legal in qld?

You guys have seen the M35 3.5L NA engine bays? They have the extra section removed from the air filter box. I wonder if we can buy that part???

The Powerduct? You can get it anywhere... try Nissan if you want to part with ~$180... or offer one of the V35 guys money for theirs :)

Or you could make your own with single sided adhesive rubber

yes, they plug straight into our airbox (I have one - freebee from a friend)

    • Yeah, plenty of air flow, there is a dedicated path that feeds the air in to the OEM intake tube behind the bumper As for a "tangible effect", maybe, but getting the pod/intake air out of the hot engine bay is worth it psychologically to me, even if it gives no performance difference, so the tangible effect in my Lizard brain saysss yessss  In the end, to me a tangible effect isn't always about performance, sometimes it a sound or a look, or even a...... feeling  Ooga-Chaka Ooga-Ooga Ooga-Chaka Ooga-Ooga Ooga-Chaka Ooga-Ooga Ooga-Chaka Ooga-Ooga
    • yeah first and reverse is where you will find clutch release issues (whether hydraulic or mechanical) because the difference in revs required is the highest there; particularly changing down from 2nd to 1st when still moving. To be clearer though, it is possible that the clutch release bearing is the wrong height. This is less likely than a hydraulic issue but it is not unheard of when you are mixing and matching

    • Hi all, Restoring r33 series 1 rb25det. All the heater hoses were on their way out, have replaced them and put it all back together. After testing I noticed a small leak from behind the head on the actual metal water line to the turbo when cars warm. I tried running a longer hose over it but it kept leaking...   I am about to take the (stock) manifold off again😔 to change the water line does any one have any lines they recommend? I was looking at Aeroflow Turbo Oil & Water Line Set but not sure what everyone else recommends. Car is completely stock but want to upgrade turbo eventually. it looks like ill have to disconnect a lot just to replace these lines so if there's anything else recommended to do please let me know. Thank you in advance!
