autobarn recommended non lsd oil for my lsd???

I need to change the oil in my diff (its limited slip) so i went to nissan to see what they recommended. i was told to use Mobil LS90 synthetic lsd oil. is this correct?

i went to autobarn and they don't stock it but the guy there looked up a catalogue and he said for all nissan diffs you can use non-lsd oil in limited slip diffs. he was convinced i should get non-lsd oil. i then ran out of the shop :) it didn't sound right to me!

so what do you guys reckon? i ended up getting castrol lsd oil from bursons (who said the guy at autobarn was an idiot).

so is the guy at autobarn really an idiot or is it ok to use non-lsd oil in a lsd?

logic would say its not reccomended. if theres a lsd oil and u got ur hands on it already then theres no need to ask this question.:):D is there a big price diff bewteen the two..better to spend that extra for piece of mind than to listen to someone who needs to look in a book to answer u question.

If you have a viscous LSD centre then you can use an 'ordinary' diff oil. OTOH, LSD diff oil should be used if you have a mechanical LSD (clutch centre, etc).

If you not sure, use an LSD oil...the difference in price is hardly worth worrying about and certainly won't do any harm.

yeah it is a viscous LSD, so i guess autobarn 'idiot' was right, well half right. he didn't know that i had a viscous LSD.

i looked in a mates owners manual tonight and it reccomends hypoid gear oil 85w-90 - which is non-lsd oil so yeah. but if its not going to wreck anything then i'll just put in the lsd oil, as you said B1, it can't hurt.

went back today and got castrol VMX80 80w90 gear oil because i thought i should do what owners manual says. also got a pump. changed it myself, easy job - takes 1.3 litres. it feels heaps smoother around corners, i'm heaps more confident to enter corners at speed now :P

before you go to autobarn, know what you want, get it, and get out before one of the staff tries to give you 'advice'...... most of em dont know shit.

haha so true especially around this time of year all the teenages are working and most of em know things in theory that they read in magazines etc thats about it!

Is changing Diff oil a difficult process i have never looked into it do you need special tools or anything??

Whats involved ??

I think it's about time i do mine cause evernow and then it does single spin.

Maybe i should just fork out the cash for a mech lsd

      Hello!  i just finished manual swaping my r34 skyline with a r33 rb20de box(RB71C)box  When the car is running it squeaks crazy loud and it was smoking from the gearbox area. The gearbox is fine it was tested. The clutch slave cylinder seems like it doesn't fully releases the clutch.       A few small updates since the previous post and lessons. I decided to do a little interior light upgrade on the 110. I quite like the iilumo items, even if they're a bit of a premium over other brands. You'll also note the Stedi Fogs, that will go into the S15 fog lights as I needed to match the bulbs since I got the new ones earlier. I hope they fit as the body is quite a bit longer than your normal bulb.  Annoyingly, I managed to trip the fuse, which normally wouldn't be an issue until I located the fuse. I can't say I've ever come across this. I had lucked out that someone nearby had a spare, but oddly enough Toyota dealerships seem to keep this in stock. I ordered some to keep in my stash and as luck would have it, someone else nearby tripped the same fuse so I passed on the favour.  I also did a little service on the 110 ahead of some additional work coming up. It's been annoying that Goleby's stopped carrying this particular HKS filter for the 110, so now I need to keep them on order from Japan. I also took the opportunity to install a bash plate and number plate riser. The plate riser is such a cheap but nice fix to help really tidy up the car. I'm tempted to now also replace my headlights, on this car. Both items were from Project Aero.    I also needed to replace the rear tyres on the 110, and after trying to get it aligned learnt that I need to replace some bushes in the front end, so that's next.  Closing out this update with a nicer picture as always!
