I'm a 17yr P plater and im worried that cops will pull me over all the time for having a Skyline. I have one quick question and that is, Even as Black licence holders do you get pulled up often to get deffect notices? If so what was the performance mod. that got you busted?

Cheers

From my experience, the key to not getting pulled over and defected is quite simple and mainly to do appearance:

- Don't have a loud exhaust... (loud N/A skylines sound like arse/VL Commodore anyway)

- Always have matching rims on your car, no skid wheels...

- Dont drive around with unpainted bodykits/ different colour panels...

- Dont drive like a dickhead

Basically, the less attention you bring to yourself the better. Ive been driving cars for the last 8 years following this principle, and it has never got me defected even tho all of my cars have been defectable. If you do get pulled up, be as nice as possible. If you pass the police 'attitude' test, depending on the officer, they will be a lot more lenient towards you.

it also depends where you live. i live in a small town and i have had 2 imports, both turbo, and only ever been pulled over once in them and that was for a random licence check. can't really say it was because of my car because after driving for about 10 mins i hadn't seen another car on the road, so i'd say it was more because the cops were bored. but they never asked me to pop the bonnet or anything like that. the cops round here seem to know that it is the bogans in commodores who are more than likely going to have bald tyres, etc. plus one of the cops here owns a 33.

also having things that scream "pull me over" like blue LED number plate lights are going to get you pulled over no matter what you drive.

They'll pull you over all the time for having P plates, and a penis. It doesn't matter what you drive.

If you don't want to get defected, don't have a defectable car. The restrictions are there for a reason.

If your car looks and sounds stock the cops will generally leave you alone if you're not driving like a tool. Looking generic has its advantages. Cars that look modified will pique the cops' interest, so they'll spend more time looking at it (and you).

this is when being one of the other millions of people driving a commodore with stock rims comes in very handy. if you haven't to have lapse of judgment and do a burnout and some old lady rings the police to report it and doesn't get your licence plate, they aren't really going to bother keeping an eye out for a car that heaps of people have, where as if you have a skyline with a custom paint job or something like that, it suddenly narrows the list of possible suspects down quite a lot, LOL

P Plates are the biggest attention grabber IMO. When I moved to Brisbane I had an NX Coupe for a couple of months (affordable sporty run around car till I found the car I wanted) I had P Plates on it, and yes it did have a canon muffler on it, and I got police attention so often! I only got pulled over once and fined for use of a mobile (literally a 6 second call saying can't talk driving, when I was still within shopping centre carpark); but I would get followed so often! Many times followed half way to work also.

Since I bought the Skyline (stock factory standard R34 Sedan) even with P Plates, I got the occasional following (yes obvious following as they would make a u turn on the lights to tail me, then fall back, then tail me again, obviously seeing how fast I'm going and if I'm going to do anything stupid), and got followed by a cop on a bike on the motorway to the Gold Coast once, he was trying to hang in my blind spot.

Then about a month later.. I went and got my licence tfr'd from NSW to QLD, found out that with the system I was on, it was more or less an open licence with 4 points and no p plates! How much attention have I had since then? I think I've been followed once or twice, and I've had the R34 since January 07. Just by removing the P Plates the attention I get is little-to-none! Even with a front mount intercooler and 3" Turboback to a canon tip. However, I don't have a body kit, and yes I have rims but they aren't rims that stand out a mile away with obviously bad offset and too big for the car. I've done everything right and kept it clean and close to standard looking on the outside and so far that's worked.

But as others have said already, P Plates + Male driver never looks good to police... add a Skyline or any sports inspired car to that equation and good luck :) Do the right thing, be polite to the cops, keep your car looking respectful (silly useless wings are for penguins, you're not doing time attack in an N/A Skyline on the street) and don't give them a reason to pull you up for anything, and you'll be fine. You'll always get the odd cop or two who likes to make life miserable for owners of imports, but what can you do about that?

i had a r33 n/a when i was on my p's for 2 years 3 in exhaust which hit 109 db and 18in rims. only ever got pulled over once for a random check rest were for speeding lol, now im driving a 33 gts-t exhaust and bov still got another 8 months of p's touch would havnt been pulled over yet.

Every one of the above is correct, but also since your getting an NA skyline, don't modify it simple. Or if you do, get things they won't defect you for, stereo, decent wheels, suspension. There's no point putting a pod and cannon on there as you won't get much power out of it. If I was 17 and buying my 1st car I would buy something like a honda civic, purely because it's cheap and would save me money (provided you don't go all ricer on it) until I can spend that on a gtr later

As stated, dont drive like a dick. Ive Had My N/A r34 for around 8 months now (with P Plates on), driven every day, do up to 700km a week in it, have not been pulled over once, (apart from booze busses) Its Loudish, Its Low, but if your not doing anything stupid they tend to leave you alone it would seem. As other said, be polite and easy to talk to with them, and if you do get pulled over they wont be asking too many questions. unless u just get a flamin mongrel.

get a turbo.. n/a skylines are junk. i've been drivin my turbo on my red's still and its been like 6 months+ only got pulled over cos i was speeding x.x they didnt even know i had a turbo

i'd say you were lucky buddy,

as for the skyline on your ps - agree with above, pretty simple dont drive like a dickhead, or with skidders on

oh and please please no epic 5inch cannons on your NA :D

I got my R33 turbo (no Power restrictions in WA ftw ) 2 weeks after getting my Ps & I'll be off my Ps by November.

Got pulled over 3 times in total, never got defected nor fined once.

From my experience, to avoid getting defected:

1) Don't drink like a douche, blend in with all the surrounding Camrys & falcodores.

2) Leave the car looking as stock as possible

3) Don't put any mods that screams 'defect me!' (atmo BOV, neons for example)

To avoid getting pulled over (again from my experience);

1) Don't drive around at mid night & avoid driving around much during public holidays (I'm serious! the 3 times I got pulled over were all during this year's Easter public holiday, the last time I got pulled over I just left the house & was like 500m from it)

I currently only use my Skyline as a A to B Corolla & only travel during normal hours & usually theres not a Cop car in sight most of the time... minus the cop with speed gun.

i got pulled over last night in newy. completly being a f***in tool. i as drunk. speedin. suspended licence. pulled in front of a un mark with no indicators, then turned off griffiths road with no blinker. soon as he came to the window i just sed. yep, my licence is suspended, and ive been drinkin. that had to arrest me and take me back to the station for questions

he sed that because i had been so poliete and co-operative he wasnt goin to wrtie on the court note i was speedin and changin lanes with no indicators. and also if i hadnt been speedin and i was indicating he would have keep goin.

so yea. as every has sed. just follow the old lady in her corolla in front. dont be a fully sic mad c**t tryin to impress the chick walkin on the foot path, its really not worth it. im lookin at 12 months off and a fair few hefty fines, just for tryin to be a mad c**t. so at least a year of ridin shot gun. hate the feelin

Yeah I've been driving my modified NA R32 on the road for 2 years now, still haven't been pulled over yet.

From the stuff you've done it won't surprise me if you end up driving on the road with your license taken away from you. Seems like you couldn't care less about anyone else on the road. What have you done previously to have your license suspended?

ive had my turbo r33 for a year and am on Ps and got defected 6 times and they were all at late night on fri or sat on princess hwy so yeah it just all depends on where you are Ive never been pulled over during the week or in the day only fri and sat late at night and thats where all my defects came from so yeah you just choose if worth taking a risk of goin out

yeah dont drive like a dickhead. Go for a drive with someone... or sit on a corner... and wait for a p-plater/anyone really to come past and do a skid around the corner or try and kick id sideways or rev the balls out of it and imagine wat a cop would think if they saw that

I think it usually makes ur car look worse when u appear to treat it like shit.

Bottom line... if u dont do anything wrong, they cant get u for anything. And you wont have cops remembering ur numberplates and pulling u over every chance they get.

I have not been pulled over in my turboed skyline since november last year, cause I drive it fairly sedatly majority of the time

    • So....to find any R chassis part number, get your VIN (will be something like ER33-xxxxxx for you) and go to: https://www.amayama.com/en/genuine-catalogs/nissan and enter it. From there you have access to a web version of Nissan's part system, FAST. It is a bit tricky to get used to, so maybe have a shot and post up what you think.  You can also search by general model but note in some cases your car might have different options so VIN is safest.  On diagram 211 I got 14075-75T16 for Connector, Water Hose If I search for part 14053‑21U10 that you posted, that is also a water hose but not the one bolted to the plenum and 14075‑04U00 is the fitting where the water hose goes into the block.
    • Yeah now we are talking I much prefer coolers in the front middle because it lessens the chance of a small bump to a corner stopping the whole event. I was thinking the AT cooler can move out of the radiator, delete the AT/engine coolant interwarmer and mount a separate cooler with a thermoswitch somewhere further back as is common in racing, that would be one thing. Beyond that, the engine oil cooler is an obvious one to move to the wheel arch, potentially one on each side, but unused space is an issue. I did have a earlier pic with the bumper off but it doesn't show how busy the corners are: DS is full of the auto driving sensors and PS is totally fully of windscreen washer fluid reservoir But ultimately I was hoping to keep the AC, and the water/air heat exchanger is fundamental so it is not just the radiator that needs to be in front BTW here's airflow to the rad as it ran at the track (one horn is gone now and I'll remove the lights next time):
    • your right the maps for Australia came out in 2017 but are 2010 maps. i got the updated maps SD card put it in and it was the same. Same maps in my Brothers Nissan Patrol. 2020 i think his car is
    • Yeahhhh, the costs have killed me. Spent more than the cost of an engine rebuild and it most mostly servicing and a tune lol.
