is that rite little john nah it pops mean skids and yea the intake temp is hot but hasnt failed yet i only run 6.7 psi for burnouts also which helps a tinny bit for doing burnouts and my car has never been impounded and never will be and that photo is of my car be4 i purchased it . Tardomatic response unit.

and if u like when these proxies get bald ill do u a burnt out and post it and we see how many seconds i get

hey man, i jst saw your post n thought id make a joke; wasnt trying to insult ya. Jst thought u talking about burnouts all day on the stock SMIC, then i saw the avatar so yeah; all in good fun.

u guys are easyer to wind up than my boost

Hehe, its true alot of people get wound up; even me at the beginning but now i take things as jokes. Im here for the great info from some knowledgeble members and post my experience/little knowledge when i can be of help to someone and make a joke here and there.

trust me though as you are a new member, dont post thing up like doing burnouts all day or speeding on public roads etc; people have a hard time with police cos of the reatrds who hoon n break the law all the time making the skyline group 'meat' for the police.

That said, i dont mind watching a good burnout in an industrial zone when no1 is around.

um, what has any of the last 10 posts got to do with fitting a XR6 intercooler to my car. keep it on topic or go somewhere else please. mods, please clean

XR6 IC's run out of efficiency at around 250rwkw on XR6's - sure you can push them close to 300rwkw but the next dyno run will drop about 30rwkw. I can tell you from the XR's I've tuned at around 10psi of boost the intake temp will rise about 30degrees after a 8second dyno run!!!

There are better options in my opion - even some of the cheap chinese cores are better than that.

well fitted it. im running 330wrhp at the moment and everything seems good. the car is just a daily. doesn't get driven hard so hopefully it will be enough to keep it cool. if not, ill just put the old intercooler back in

There are pics HERE of my setup using this XR6 core. Few months ago i swapped the XR6 FMIC for slightly bigger typhoon core (painted black) which i picked up cheap, didn't need to change any piping, bolted straight up to same brackets as XR6 core, only other mods to my S1 rb25 are hks2530, zorst & cat, standard airbox/piping running paper filter. It pulled 225rwkw on 17psi (tapering off to 14psi at the redline with mechanical boost controller), response is really good, engine bay looks standard, no cutting of battery tray, incoming intercooler pipe remains at ambient temp even with aircon on when the mercury get well into the 30's here in melbourne, and because of its small core size I would guess that it doesn't block airflow to your radiator as much as some aftermarket kits might. If u want anymore pics or details PM me.

Thanks for that Rob, shame i didnt see your post earlier, i was eyeing off a typhoon intercooler at the drags and may go that way down the track, we'll see how this one goes first. i think any other cooler needs the reo cut (even slightly) where as this requires absolutely no cutting at all of the reo at all.

looks like a nice fit, like it came from factory.

should've just ran a black mesh over your old 600x300 core & paint it black if it wasn't done yet.

you can barely see the cooler on my car as thats how i done mine.

i just read the hole tread and that has to be the best post ive ever read lmao.

ontopic...nice work on the xr6 intercooler but in my opinion i would of rathered a after market fmic suited for the car. each to there own.

i had mesh over my old 600*300 but it still stood out like dogs balls. i would have rathered leaving it in there to but with the po po going stupid on stickers over here i wanted to find a alternative to the big cooler with half the reo missing

I cannot comment for an R33 but for my R32 it pretty straightforward. The mounting holes cast into the end tanks of both the xr6 & typhoon cores happened to be spaced exactly the same distance as two M6 nuts that are welded onto the GTR reo (originally for holding the factory mesh) which i install at the same time as the typhoon core, with the standard gts reo it required me to drill two 6mm holes in the reo. Some people may disagree with bolting it two the reo but for the weight and size of the thing it was the best option.

My setup i think only cost me $300-350, but probably the JJR stealth kit or the HKS with a similar design would be a better option for most. If i had my time again I would probably just forget the whole bar & plate vs tube & fin debate and buy something cheap & shiny off the shelf and paint it black.

just a little update, been running this for almost a year now and went for a tidy up on my tune and only got 290rwhp due to the core being a restriction at top end at 15psi. is now going to be removed soon and a 600*300 put back in. would be a good upgrade over a stock intercooler but thats about it although it done ok for the time i had it in.

Hay mate, how did use come to the conclusion the cooler is holding it up,specially when xr6 turbos make more than this still using stock core and they are trying to cool more air.

Curious as i used to run 34 smic on my ceffy and r33 with t04 and never had problem, an they half the size.

i then done biggest mistake an fitted greedy fmic kit and it turned my rb20 into the biggest lag monster ever i mean its a joke.

Any more info you find out or dyno readings just from changing your core and nothing else would be great.

g/l with it all !

You ran a R34 SMIC and make 440rwkw on 25+psi with a T04Z without pressure drop/heat soak?

I find that very hard to believe given there is plenty of tested proof to actually prove otherwise.

Are you referring to me ^^^

if so i didnt quote any power figures/ model or boost pressures !

and why would i lie, was just saying thats what i had and what happened when i changed.

And the turbo wasnt genuine t04 it was special hybrid built from Bill at ATS which is still currently on my car ! ( just used as reference for size )

    • Thanks for doing that Duncan! Makes you a good person in my books. We don't get kangaroos or wombats here. But we have bats and it's similar. AFAIK it's often the mums with a baby attached that get hit because they drop lower when starting from a tree. If you hit an animal, check on it. https://www.ifaw.org/au/resources/wildlife-rescue-app An app to get the closest wildlife rescue contact.
    • My dream is also to have a proper hoist, but I don't think it will ever happen. My quickjack is probably as close as I'll ever get, it really is very good though.
    • Yeah we keep on in the dailies, it is pretty poor how many animals get hit and the driver leaves without checking....have saved a couple of little ones over the years. Bit of a gruesome job though, pouches generally need to be cut open because they are so tight and often the joey doesn't realise mum is gone so they are still locked onto the teat. I checked the modules in front of the DS wheel where an oil cooler should go.... There is the radar unit - that can go for race use) One of the 2 HX water pumps, the silver cylinder. That needs to be kept but might be able to be relocated But the bad news, the big computer mounted vertically in front of the wheel (blocking any potential air exit) is the electric steering computer. That is required until/unless i do a hydraulic steering conversion, and in CAD based modern car design it is not like I can just pop a big unit like that somewhere else (plus the loom would be too short anywhere else too). So, the passenger side is OK to clear out (just use a smaller washer reservoir, potentially elsewhere), but the DS no beuno
    • Well, all the best with the new camry It was interesting to hear about the UK process, it is generally a lot more streamlined here with a shipping agent looking after all the import side (noting the exact final price can still be a surprise.....) and I've used a few different brokers on the japan (or US) side, and never had any trouble with any of them....luck of the draw I guess. You mentioned you didn't get the auction sheet (understandable since you bought it from a dealer, not auction), but I always try and get hold of that because they are pretty thorough. I've imported 2x R grade vehicles over the years and both were fine, repairs in Japan are pretty thorough compared to here in Oz.
    • BTW I measured the jack I have, it is 70mm at the saddle but you only have about 700 until it returns to 150mm high at the cylinder so it is good but no magic bullet.
