Lsx-438 Wins Nsw State Supersprint Champs

Recommended Posts

I've just made it home from the last round of the NSW state supersprints (Oran Park Day/Night Meet), and understand the Duncan (LSX-438) has won the 2009 state championships.

considering this is over 8 rounds and in a brand new car, this is a great acheivement!

thanks Duncan! yeah just got back too. I am stuffed, it was a looong day.

Results here:

http://www.natsoft.com.au/cgi-bin/results..../2009.ORAN.S2.Y

The whole year and it came down to two tenths and one point. I can't believe it.

How good are these GTR R35's?

We'll try and get some pics and vids up soon.

Well done Duncan,,,great result!!!. :)

I reminded some of the clubbies of their early year comments,,,bloody jap crap my arse.

I wonder if the powers to be will now find a way to ban the GTR from outright standings. :)

It's fitting that it took a GTR to beat John's supercharged clubby after a 3 year reign.

Again well done tiger.

Neil.

Thanks Neil. I've heard rumblings this morning that people are complaining i should not have been in Type 4 without a cage. So it looks like people are questioning it already..

From the rulebook:

Type 4. 3D Sports Sedans exactly as defined in the CAMS Manual. In addition, any vehicle that conforms to Type 1, 2, 3 or SV requirements shall be permitted to employ or use racing "slicks" but if it does so it shall be classified as a Type 4 vehicle.

So, by my reading i've done the right thing?

Anyway it's all good fun, and half luck in the end :)

:D Congrats Duncan, great job, totally enjoyed competiting with all in supersprint series, especially the occassions we ran together, was great!

I think PI should go back on your calender as you are current NSW outright supersprint champion for 09??

Cheers

yes how you read it is exactly correct, there is an "or" there. which may not stop people changing the rules as you've already seen.

depending on how important winning is, 3D may be the best place to run next year on semis. I guess since you were quickest outright you should be right in 4d anyway.

Congratulations again Duncan,

For those that didn't look at the results Duncan also beat a F3, a F3000 and a Radical in the outright standings, looks like those slicks some bloke sold you go alright :D

As for needing to have a cage to run slicks, that's rubbish. I read right the way through the CAMS manual and it doesn't say anywhere that you need a cage. I then rang up CAMS as well and you definately don't need a roll cage to run slicks.

The only exception to this is if event sup regs say you need a roll cage.

Um,,,maybe YOU should look further into the years times mate and the supersprint rules.

Those 3 cars are not allowed in the outright standings.

Think he was only talking about the results for the day, Will be great to see Duncan run a full year on slicks as well to see times from all the tracks, should be a good battle next year between Duncan and Jason Wright in the Blue WRX if he brings it back.

Heres a pic of Duncan in action on slicks..

Thanks for the pic! I'm not sure what class will make sense next year for the R35's. Need to see the rules first (they are being revised in relation to AWD Turbos i believe). I think the gist of it is, no AWD Turbo's in Type 1, and those in Type 2 will not be allowed any modification to anything related/directly attached to the motor (so no engine mods or tune, no exhaust/midpipe). However it sounds like you will still be allowed to run different size wheels and have suspension mods. But we'll have to wait and see.

As for Jason Wright, i dont think he'll have much to worry about!! Last time out at OPGP he ran 1:14.2 i think (on his shakedown run in the new setup) so that translates to a mid 45.x on the short track. I'm just not going to be able to get near that without taking significant weight out of the car. Then again, half of this is about some luck so you never know what might happen

lol, yeah I was talking about on the day, was that your Radical Neil?

Nice Job Duncan.

But FYI - don't come to Vic with slicks and no cage. There's no friggen way anyone down here lets anyone run on slicks without one. It's been a standard rule at every club day I've done.

Thanks for the heads up Snowy. I've been reviewing the national supersprint regs. Are you entering btw? If so (and/or q. others entering) which class? I have some questions about the "standard" class. I wonder if you can run a tune? I cant see any reference to it in the rules. In addition the rules state "Wheel diameter may be altered from standard to the NEXT SIZE larger or smaller" - so I guess that means R35 owners cannot downsize to 18". They also say legal road tyres only, are RE55's tolerated as legal tyre? They are on the CAMS tyre list so I presume they are ok. However if we can't run 18's then I suppose there is no choice except to run in the modified car class? Thoughts?

RE55's are allowed in standard class but you'd need 19's or 20's.

My advise would be to run the standard wheels / tyres and run in standard class and destroy everyone! :P

PS - I'm not coming at this stage.

Sandown - Nov 3rd

DECA - Nov 7th

ATC Lang Lang - Nov 21st

Mt Buller - Dec 4-6th

+ Wife and 2 Kids

= Pushing it too far if I try and add PI as well. LOL

That being said the race car (R34) is currently not quite right and there is a chance I'll have to miss Sandown and DECA. If that happens I'll be doing PI instead (and probably in the R35 and in Standard Class :) )

    • I sense an out of control build thread coming up lololol. That 450kW goal will end up being 600 to 700kW LOL.
    • Nice, thanks for sharing your progress....that's a pretty long list you are putting into it!
    • Decided to upgrade my pressurised plastic coolant expansion tank for a fancy pants alloy version The OEM versions can get brittle, even the new plastic one I got when I first got the car is a starting to show signs of "stress" I wasn't cheap, but it is basically unbreakable
    • Morning all, I have an RB25DET Neo that's in need of a rebuild. Will need new pistons etc due to detonation damage. Would anyone be able to recommend a shop in Southeast Queensland who I could bring my long motor to for a rebuild? Just want someone who knows RBs and whos built a bunch of them before. TLDR - recommended engine shops for RB rebuild.
    • Gday Thought it was about time I started a build thread! As expected this project has snowballed into a huge financial liability, but unless you’re strong willed and responsible, it’s not a surprise. Background -  My first turbo car was an R32 GTS-4, got my full license and then totalled my Au Falcon a week later, so while trying to sell my RMZ450 dirtbike to buy another car a bloke offered to swap the R32 which at the time I felt like I was ripped off but looking back and seeing prices of those now ($40kish) it was a good deal, I didn’t know enough about these cars to appreciate what I had so sold it before the RB20 blew up. Between here and there, out of 12 cars I’ve owned the note worthy ones are a V8 Lexus SC400 (soarer), a couple of XR6 Turbos and my beloved S15 which I had for about 3 years, picked it up for $12500, repairable write off but she was fine, gun metal grey/pewter and bone stock/unmolested until I got my hands on it. Ended up spending about the value of the car and 280kw, 2 demerit points by the time I got defected and sold it for $14500 (also $40kish in today’s market, rip) Fast forward to the present day, I’m in a much better position financially and daily an MQ Triton (great cars, pipe down Ranger Bois), I cruised marketplace and car sales for a few months looking for another R32, the best deal I could find was an absolute rust bucket half finished project for $12000, until this R33 popped up in Port Macquarie for $18k - unregistered and barely running but decent shape, kept an eye on it for a few weeks and the price steadily dropped, $16k then $15k then $14k, that was the point where I was like shit someone’s gonna snatch this up! It was owned by a young bloke who had big plans but him and his missus just had a baby so smartest move financially for them but big gain for me. So 2 days later I’m towing a car trailer to pick this thing up. Roughly 2 weeks and $3500 later I’m cruising around Newcastle in my beat up R33 all smiles and dose noises! It only needed some basic shit to get it going, coil packs and air flow meter, electrical stuff and all fluids changed, 158k kms and running pretty good, nice smooth engine after oil and coolant flush - when I say coolant I mean it had been filled up with tap water, every gallery and heater element was filled with rust, 8-9 flushes later and still had brown liquid coming out but she’ll be right. The car was painted R34 Bayside Blue at some point but whether it was a cheap job or just not looked after is anyone’s guess, clear coat flaking like sausage roll.  Was rethinking my choices and contemplating life, had it up for sale for $22k - still cheaper than any registered R33 but got little interest, next minute I had an opportunity at work - 6 months overseas for good money, so that was a no brainer, fast forward again and here we are with a 50% finished project. Current Mods - 200ish KW according to butt dyno Was tuned with Apexi PowerFC EBC (old school Greddy Profec)  Stock turbo (more shaft play than a Tinder date gone right) 3inch turbo back Varex muffler  Aftermarket injectors of mystery size, Power FC showed 36% duty cycle at full boost so not behd good size Someone had good intentions but stuck with the stock R33 MAF so we had misfires at 6000rpm due to the MAF hitting 5.2V So far I’ve redone the entire interior with carpet form Car Mats Direct, new Seats and steering wheel from Autotechnica, also sound system by Autobarn (mainly Kicker) Also MCA pro comfort coil overs - Hands down best purchase yet, worlds of improvement over the tired 30yrold shocks Goals - 450kw/600hp on flex tune New paint job - Midnight Purple 2 Engine is at the shop getting rebuilt with forged rods a pistons, new valves and springs, ATI Harmonic balancer, Aeroflow 7.5L sump, rear head drain and oil restrictors as per oil control thread* and cam covers modded for larger breathers, other stuff I can’t recall of the top of my head Parts purchased and to be installed once the engine is done -  Engine loom from Wiring Specialties including these options: Haltech Nexus S3 R35 Coil pack conversion  PRP Dual Trigger kit Fan controller  Other Parts -  262 Kelford Cams Turbo - Hypergear ATR43SS3-ProS with T51R mod (whistly boi) 6 boost manifold (high mount) 50mm Turbosmart Pro gate (plumbed back for legal reasons) HKS Super Turbo Exhaust with High Flow Cat Custom 3.5inch dump and front pipe 1500cc Bosch injectors  Fuel Pump walbro 525 Haltech MAP and IAT sensors Haltech Flex Sensor Fenix Radiator with dual thermo fans LS1 Alternator Kit Oil Filter Relocation from EFI solutions and Cooling pro oil cooler Many other things sitting in my garage waiting for that engine to come back.
