Adm Vs Jdm - Pros And Cons Of Each

Recommended Posts

Bad things about ADM's that I know of.

- No auto lights

The funny thing is this is only half true. The ADM cars don't have the lumnar dection system system true BUT if you leave your main lights on constantly the lights actually automatically switch off when you turn the car off (so they aren't left with the parkers on / give you a flat battery).

So I just leave my lights in the ON position 100% of the time and drive with the lights on during the day as well as at night.

That almost needed to go into the useless facts thread but I just thought I'd clarrify it slightly since it was raised in here.

this is the same system on my mum's 1991 soarer TT - the lights switch off once the car is off and the door opens - every time i borrow the car, i drive like this - "with the lights on" but mum does it oldschool

it's a good little system - however... if you have a turbo timer.. you get out - car running, close the door, car switches off but door doesn't open, meaning - lights stay ON

she's flattened the battery twice cos of my style of driving... which is like 90% my own fault thoguh

Just to confirm JDM R35 GTRs are still available to import as long as they were manufactured before 20 Feb, 2009. RVCS Entry No.: 477/01. I searched the website to try and find out the exact number of km allowed but wasn't able to find it.

One thing that no-one has mentioned is that JDM R35 GTRs can only be registered as 2 seaters. I know that the rear seats are tiny but with the ADM cars you are allowed to put a passenger in the back.

2 seaters? Can I ask your source on this?

Just test drove an ADM... boy...

FTG Nissan - 183k drive away Premium Gun Metal.

Funny thing is if you accidentially switch your traction control off (which would be VERY easy to do, it's right near the suspension change knob) then your warranty is void. So much for local support.

Just to clarify a point ,

there is a misonception out there that as soon as you turn the traction control off, the warranty is void.

The car doesnt lose the warranty by the flick of a switch.

What the warranty states is explicit instructions regarding the appropriateness of turning the traction control off which is if stuck in snow or mud.

Now if you chose to drive the with the traction control off and then for some reason damage the drivetrain. If that was directly attributed to your driving whilst " the traction control is off" then yes, chances are Nissan would reject your drivetrain warranty.

In saying that its not easy to turn off the traction control accidentally, you need to hold it down for a couple of seconds.

I think the whole VDC off thing (somehow causing damage and having warranty implications) is a bit of a furfy, surely. Think about it, wouldnt modulating the drivetrain (on-off-on-off) cause more drivetrain shock then just letting it spin freely? And yeah, the whole "turn VDC off and your warranty is toast" idea is just untrue. It's amazing how many misconceptions are out there with this car. I've given up trying to correct people when they expouse their GTR wisdom. One guy recently asked me if my 35 was the V6 or V8 version. I just told him V6. He went to some lengths to tell me the Jap version is V8... I just didnt bother. Anyway havent they revised the whole VDC off policy for the UK cars?

i believee you still can import the early model r35 GTR , as i get emails from prestiage and other guys selling JDM r35's

Jap R35 GTR around $122k landed ?!

aus spec R35 GTR $175 K on the road ?!

50 odd k difference....i know which one i would get.....

If I read correctly on the Prestige website, the prices quoted don't include luxury car tax, so you would need to add another 33% to the price. So if you pay $122,000 for the car it will end up around $160,000 with LCT. Is this correct?

i think LCT is applied over the threshold (dunno if it's still $57k?) so not quite, no.

He is probably confused with the non-road going GT500 race car.

Eg. http://www.motorauthority.com/blog/1025370...ered-gt500-gt-r

Ah okay, so it would be $140,000 or close to that.

Still a $40,000 saving over Aus delivered.

Don't forget that the resale will be less as well....so it will only help someone that can't raise the RRP for an Aust Delivery....

Considering that I have full Local Dealer support/warranty and better resale value .......

Maybe, but seemed to think you could buy a v8 for the raod (and asked which one mine was!).

Lame.

Bit of thread mining, sorry.

Can anyone confirm the MP3 capability of the 2009 ADM cars? Will it take a CD or DVD with raw MP3's on it?

Or do i need to burn a regular audio CD?

If regular CD only, how have you gone with burning CD's, some cars/audio systems want them burned in a specific way (slow burn rate) otherwise they dont work too well. Anyone?

Edited by LSX-438
Unfortunately you have to burn an audio cd I think which limits the number if tracks

I used iTunes to do it/toast for mac

Mark,

i burnt a data CD (with MP3's) and it works ok (!!).

i noticed it takes a while to start (like 15~20 seconds) - it must be doing something to index or analyse the files, but it works. So this means we can put 100+ songs on a CD i suppose, whohoo! easy.

    • I would just put EBC back on the "I would not use their stuff" pile and move on.
    • Can I suggest you try EBC directly again and link them to as many competitor catalogues as you can to show their listing is incorrect, eg https://dba.com.au/product/front-4000-series-hd-brake-rotor-dba42304/ If you have access to an R33 GTST VIN and your VIN, you could also use a Nissan Parts lookup like Amayama to show them the part number is different between 33 GTST and 34 GTT which may get their attention
    • So i got reply from EBC and they just this site where you can clearly see those 296mm fronts on R34 GTT. I send them photos and "quotes" that 296mm are not for 34 GTT and they are too small. But it will be very hard to return them cuz nobody here knows 100% and they just copy those EBC catalogue :-D https://ebcbrakesdirect.com/automotive/nissan/skyline-r34
    • Hi, is the HKS  Tower Bar still available ? negotiable ? 🤔
    • From there, it is really just test and assemble. Plug the adapter cables from the unit into the back of the screen, then the other side to the car harness. Don't forget all the other plugs too! Run the cables behind the unit and screw it back into place (4 screws) and you should now have 3 cables to run from the top screen to the android unit. I ran them along the DS of the other AV units in the gap between their backets and the console, and used some corrugated tubing on the sharp edges of the bracket so the wires were safe. Plug the centre console and lower screen in temporarily and turn the car to ACC, the AV should fire up as normal. Hold the back button for 3 sec and Android should appear on the top screen. You need to set the input to Aux for audio (more on that later). I put the unit under the AC duct in the centre console, with the wifi antenna on top of the AC duct near the shifter, the bluetooth antenna on the AC duct under the centre console The GPS unit on top of the DS to AC duct; they all seem to work OK there are are out of the way. Neat cable routing is a pain. For the drive recorder I mounted it near the rear view mirror and run the cable in the headlining, across the a pillar and then down the inside of the a pillar seal to the DS lower dash. From there it goes across and to one USB input for the unit. The second USB input is attached to the ECUtec OBD dongle and the 3rd goes to the USB bulkhead connected I added in the centre console. This is how the centre console looks "tidied" up Note I didn't install the provided speaker, didn't use the 2.5mm IPod in line or the piggyback loom for the Ipod or change any DIP switches; they seem to only be required if you need to use the Ipod input rather than the AUX input. That's it, install done, I'll follow up with a separate post on how the unit works, but in summary it retains all factory functions and inputs (so I still use my phone to the car for calls), reverse still works like factory etc.
