Hey guys, just wanted to share a little incident that happend to me while up in rye with my cousin n friends. 2 nights ago went to sorento to go to this club, later on i decided i wanted to drink so i asked my mate if he could follow me back to the house in rosebud to drop off my car and get a ride back with him, so we left...we got stoped at a booze bus..all was good got tested and left no questions asked...then as we are passing rye i saw a tmu parked in a bus stop..and as a passed him i saw his headlights turn on and he pulled in onto the road and at that point i knew he was coming for me..anyways i got pulled over (im on green p's, friend was on red p's driving a old commodore) him and his partner get out of the car and he goes to me, "turbo is it" i go yeah its turbo, then he says are you ment to be driving a turbo and i go to him yeah i got my p's before the new laws came in. then he says well isnt this a rb25 and its too powerful? i tell him nah its heavier then usual because its a limited edition skyline, and i show him the rego sticker where it says Tare 1530kg and then his like yeah those stickers are always inaccurate, then i say too him well check out my weighbridge papers it says 1540kg and his like oh ok fair enough then good work on keeping those papers with you ( even thou i chucked in about 150kg worth of weights when i went) then he tells me to pop the bonnet, he spots the after market bov and his like ohh you have a after market bov do you..im like ohh really i thought that was stock because when i bought the car the guy said its all stock (obviously i knew it wasnt coz i put it in myself) then his like you also have an after market intercooler..so therefore your car is no longer the stock performance...in the end he said "im going to go back to the station and do some research if you mod you car does it come under high powerd vechile. but whats weird is in the end i didnt even cop a defect notice....and i also had a blitz boost controller that stood out like dogs balls..

LOL, imagine the look on his face when the epa letter also includes a print out of his post, now that would be funny.

yer i kno that would be hiliarious lol...because he didnt mention anything about recieving a epa. just a fine if anything. so i guess it would be really funny if i did :P

Hang on, you are driving a car over power-weight, lied to say it isn't over power to weight, now are gloating on a forum about it? We all know rego sticker numbers are lies.

Rye TMU are rather nice, Been RBT'd a couple of times before when staying down there.

does not matter what he said, if he see's this the easiest thing he can do is report you to the epa for blowing smoke and then you need a full epa test no questions asked.

I think you won't get an EPA...although the BOV is consider as an EPA issue...he did not mention anything about an EPA, so the likelihood of you copping an EPA is low. You were lucky...I think you were polite and acted nicely so he let you off the hook.

Just sit tight for another 3-4 weeks...if you don't get anything before Christmas, you're off the hook!

yeh it paints a good picture of us...

A good pub story mate but that's probably where it should stay. The others are right about posting the finer details up not being a good idea. You'll be lucky if you don't get an EPA in the mail...the cop might have liked you / your story and with any luck you'll get off. But a friend of mine got pulled over by a cop who said his exhaust was too loud and to change it...thought he had gotten off with a warning, but no, EPA in the mail. I got a fine for crossing double lines in the mail because the officer couldn't be bothered writing it out on the spot.

I agree with above posts...

Getting away with it is one thing, but i really dislike gloating....especially when its from the youngens. No offence, but it does create a bad sterotype.

P.S: You dont need to be/have been pulled over to receive an EPA in the mail... :nyaanyaa:

So you falsified evidence relating to your car to make it legal for you to drive and then post that information on a public forum along with all the information required to identify you should someone from the police read this? You might want to edit your original post mate...

You still might get the EPA notice in the mail mate. I got done about 2 months back. Full defect. A month and a half later the EPA notice came in the mail. Full emmision and noise test. If they do you for the boost controller and BOV then you will pretty much have to go back to stock as they check everything. It dont matter if you are polite or not. If they are not having a good day then they will do you no matter what. Did the cop take any photos??

    • OK, next the shroud needs to come off and there are a couple of tricks. Firstly, there is a loom from near the passenger side headlight to the fans, coolant temp sensor etc and there is no plug to undo.  In my case I was OK to leave the shroud on top of the engine so I just undid the passenger side fan plug and about 10 of the clips which gave enough free wire to put it aside. The fan plugs were super tight, the trick I used was a small falt screwdriver to push down on the release tab, then a larger flat screwdriver to lever the plug out of the fan unit....be careful with how much force you apply! If you need to remove the shroud altogether for some reason you will have to deal with all the plugs (tight) and clips (brittle)....good luck. I removed all of the clips and replaced them with cable ties that I will just cut next time. Also, in the Red Sport / 400R at least, the intake heat exchanger reservoir hose is bolted to the shroud in 2 places with 10mm headed bolts; so remove them (the hose stays in the car; no need to undo it at the t fittings down at the radiator lower mount. Once you've dealt with the HX hose and the wiring loom, there are 3x 10mm headed self tappers holding the top of the shroud to the radiator; remove those.   The shroud then lifts out of the bottom mounts where it sits on the radiator, up and onto the engine out of the way. Simples
    • Ok, disregard my “rate them” comment, sorry for my unrealistic input
    • OK, now we are ready to get started. You need to remove the air boxes on each side for clearance. The cover is straightforward, undo the clips on the top and lift the front cover out of the rest of the housing. If it is tight you can remove the air filters first. The rear section of the airbox is trickier. On each side you need to remove the Air flow meter wiring which is held to the airbox with a clip; you need to get behind the clip on 2 sides if you want to remove it without breaking it - unclip the harder side and pull on the clip with medium force, then unclip the easier side and it should pop out The airbox is held onto the intake hose with a spring clamp; you need to get a flat bladed screwdriver behind the spring on both sides and pop them outwards. When you have got them in the right unclipped place they will stay there and the airbox slips out pretty freely. Put a rag in the intake to prevent anything getting dropped in there, and also to prevent you seeing that the turbo seal is leaking oil (as they do). Then. The top of the radiator is held by a steel plate, it is secured by 2x10mm and 2x12mm headed bolts . Remove them and remove the plate Also grab the bushings that hold the radiator to the plate on each side so they are not lost!
    • Next, remove the upper and lower radiator hoses, both are held with a spring clamp. While you are under there, tackle the Auto Trans cooler lines.  Again both are held on with spring clamps, and as mentioned above you should cap them on the radiator side with an 8mm cap, and on the car side loop them with a length of 8mm pipe - this will stop you losing a dangerous amount of AT fluid during the rest of the job If you've been meaning to add a sender for AT trans temp, this is a great time to do it; put a sender fitting into the passenger side line as that is the inlet to the cooler/radiator.
    • Next you need to remove the intake duct (as with pretty much every job on these cars), it is a series of clips you gently remove with a flat bladed screwdriver. They do get brittle with time and can break, and I have not found a decent quality aftermarket one that fits (they are all too soft or flimsy and don't last either) but the nissan ones are a couple of bucks each (ouch).  Once the clips are off (either 8 or 10, I didn't check) you lift the intake duct out and will see the reservoirs Undo the line into the radiator side cap (some bent needle nosed piers are awesome for spring clamps) and then remove the 4x 10m nuts that hold both in place.  I didn't get these pics, but remove the line under the radiator reservoir (spring clamp again) then remove that reservoir. Then you can get at the intake reservoir, same thing, spring clamp underneath then remove it. BTW This is a great time to put in a larger (+70%) combined reservoir that AMS makes..... https://www.amsperformance.com/product/q50-q60-red-alpha-coolant-expansion-tank/ They also make an Infiniti branded and part# version if that is your thing
