The other point I was trying to make is I can't understand why people buy turbo cars and then never use them! I'm not attacking anyone, I just fail to see the logic behind buying a powerful performance car and never actually enjoying it - I don't consider the occasional squirt from 0-100 properly enjoying a car.

i bought a turbo car and i use mine everyday, its got decent power and i enjoy it.. whats the problem?

How do you define "use them?"

What about all the people that drive around in M3s & AMG mercs (& other much more powerful cars than a GTS-T) & "never really use them"

Same here.

I consider the occasional squirt from 0 to 60 (or 100 depending on speed limit) enjoying the car, seeing how I won't be able do it on my parents' cars (slow ass Corolla & Camry).

Like I said, I love the sound. I'm also not a dick who hoons around public streets or needs anymore attention from the cops by having illegal BoVs.

I mean really, why do any cars need loud exhausts, kits or big rims? It's all show, just like a fake turbo.

If you actually take your car to the track and NEED that sort of power that's the only reason I think anyone should buy a turbocharged car.

Fair enough, I was being more specific with regard to performance cars. E.g. Supras, Skylines, etc.

I don't understand why people buy GTSTs (or GTRs) over an NA Skyline if all they do is take it to the shops/Uni/work and back. Unless of course they're undertaking illegal street activities.

I also fail to understand why a loud exhaust is any less wanky than a fake turbocharger (I don't think either are particularly wanky - I just fail to see the difference). I mean you can remove the stock exhaust restriction easily enough without having to wake the neighbours everytime you drive home.

They're both simply for show, and I find it strange that if a fake spool and BoV were invented (that sounded good) why people think it's more wanky than a 120dB exhaust on an 120rwkw Skyline.

Wow. People need to read my posts better.

A) I agreed and said exhausts do NOT need to be loud to make power. I was comparing a loud (see loud, not unrestricted) exhausts usefulness to a fake turbo. Neither do anything but add noise for show.

B) I only said a fake turbo that sounded EXACTLY like a turbo spooling and releasing would kind of cool (and I guarantee if it were available and not expensive 90% of the P platers out there would agree). None of this whistler shit they have now. I know I'm going to get flamed on this point, but like I said; I love the sound of a a turbo spooling and a nice BoV, I agree it is kind of wanky, but if I cannot afford the turbo model or an unable to drive the turbo model (P plate laws) then I'd consider this till I could upgrade properly.

C) I have driven plenty of turbo charged cars. In fact I've spent quite a few hours behind the wheel of an Evo 7 and R33 gtst.

Never mind, you guys just aren't getting my point.

And for the record, my NA Supra has extractors, full mandrel bent exhaust, whiteline swaybars, KU36 rubber all around and soon to have coilovers. I'm not bragging, I'm just saying I'm all for NA performance, and I don't doubt their potential. I just hate seeing awesome cars like TT Supras and GTRs all prettied up in custom paint, 20" dished out chromies and massive body kits never being used to their full potential. If you want a show pony buy an NA and putt around in that.

Anyway, I'm done for this thread.

Soooo you pretty much just said everyone here that owns a turbo shouldn't own one because we don't use them "properly". Ohhhh k. Well that's point i got from your posts.....

haven't been in the NA section for a few days, so thought i'd stop back in and see what was going on. good to see there are still idiots in here making posts that make us guys in wasteland look intelligent, LOL

ok lets list off reasons why not to get aany product that makes your car sound like it has a turbo when it doesn't:

1: proves you are a ricer wannabe

2: after you get beaten by a commodore or falcon they will brag to their mates because they think they beat a turbo car

3: they look extremely crap because you can see this shiny thing sitting up the exhaust

4: harden the f**k up and buy a turbo car if you want the whistle. if you are on your p's and can't legally drive a turbo car, just wait until you can. that way you will hopefully have some of your stupidity out of your system by then.

5: let's say you don't do the clamp up properly and the thing comes flying out and hits a pedestrian and hurts them. or it comes out and narrowly misses a bikie following you, resulting in him pulling up next to you at the next intersection and kick your door in

Wow. People need to read my posts better.

Ah HAH! So you DO want a turbo car to drive around everyday in...including going to work and taking it to the shops...despite questioning this WHOLE time what the point of us turbo owners are doing with a turbo car in the first place!

I also fail to understand why a loud exhaust is any less wanky than a fake turbocharger (I don't think either are particularly wanky - I just fail to see the difference). I mean you can remove the stock exhaust restriction easily enough without having to wake the neighbours everytime you drive home.

The laws of thermodynamics come to the conclusion that a better flowing exhaust will inevitably be louder.

That's not to say that shithouse loud exhausts can't flow badly to a point where a well made, quiet, exhaust does a better job, but if you have 2 decibel limits and both exhausts are made "perfectly" while achieving those noise targets then the louder one will flow better.

I think power for the sake of power (if they don't make proper use of it) is a wank, but I'd still give it more credit than someone who wants the byproduct of power for the sake of the byproduct of power, without any performance to go with it.

BOV/flutter is the sound of trying to cram more air into your engine than it'll take. Exhaust gases are the waste generated by combustion. In other words, its the engine equivalent of taking vomiting and taking a shit respectively.

If you like to eat a lot then sometimes you'll eat until you puke, and take dumps more often. At least you're hopefully enjoying a lot of tasty meals, and it's the body's natural reaction. People who voluntarily choose to vomit and poo so they can look cool are called bulemics, and it's a mental illness.

I can't speak for anyone else on matters of opinion, but if you have a look at the other threads on here where people say they just want a loud exhaust and don't care about performance, I'll be there to pay them out for it.

That these people also tend to own NA Skylines I'll write off as a coincidence, rather than another example of their mental deficiencies.

All of you are retards, man... Seriously...

I'd smoke you all with my 12v electric fan wedged into my intake, its like so totally sick!!! that whistler thing is so last week. haha

    • Well you could certainly buy or build an enclosure for a pod in that corner of the bay. It is absolutely vital that there is a nice big opening to let cold air in to it from the front or underside, otherwise it will just pull air in around the edges from the bay, and if that air is hot, you gain nothing from enclosing the pod. There is lots of good evidence around (including on here, see posts by @Kinkstaah for example) showing that pods pulling hot air from the bay is only a problem when you're static or slow in traffic, and that as soon as you get the car up and moving the air being grabbed by the pod cools down. Although that will obviously vary from car to car, whether there is a flow of cold air to the pod or if it all has to come through the radiator area, etc etc. Obviously, the whole exercise requires as much thought as anything else does. Doing the lazy thing will often end up being the dumb thing. The stock GTT airbox has a cold air snorkel to feed it from over the radiator. Shows that Nissan were thinking. The GT airbox is upside down compared to the turbo one, yeah? Inlet at the bottom, AFM/exit on the lid? That might make it harder to route the turbo inlet pipe using the GT airbox than a turbo one. That would probably be the main reason I'd consider not using it, not that it is too small and restrictive. I'm looking at a photo of one now and the inlet opening seems nice and large. Also seems to have the same type of snorkel that the turbo one has. Maybe all that's required is to make a less restrictive snorkel/cold air inlet, perhaps by punching down through the guard like I did.
    • Also seen this as an option
    • I get you, we’ll see I’m aiming for 200ish kw now and hopefully 300rwkw down the line after some upgrades maybe like headstuds, E85 flex fuel etc  so trying to make it final for that now, I can get a GTT airbox for $280 so it’s not too bad but not sure if there’s better ways to spend that money. I seen online they say pod filter which isn’t enclosed isn’t good especially for a plus T.      hard to say what to do
    • Meh. How much power can you make from a +T anyway? I wouldn't have though it would be enough to challenge the airbox. It's not as if it's tiny compared with the turbo one. As to putting a pod in a stock airbox .... it's not the filter element that would be restrictive. It would be the air inlet to the box that would be the narrow point, which you could open up regardless of what element was inside. On my R32 I opened up the sort of triangular opening in the bottom front corner of the box, deformed (heated, moulded) some 4" stormwater pipe to fit to that opening and punched a 4" hole down through the inner guard to the spot where the stock intercooler used to be. This was purely in the search for a cold intake, but you could do something similar if you need to open up the inlet side of it. The AFM tube size is the same for both NA and turbo, so the outlet from the airbox is same same anyway. If you're going to do the right thing, then an aftermarket ECU won't care about the AFM (ie, you can get rid of it). But even if it was still there, people pull >300rwkW through them all day, and I suspect you won't be going there.
