Ive got an R33 with the stock turbo on the RB25DET

Now ive heard different stories so it seems the amount of boost the stock turbo is debatable.

I recently installed an R34 SMIC on my car and was wondering what PSI i could comfortably run the stock turbo at? Without risk of damaging it or any other parts.

Im wanting to crank it up to at least 10 PSI, but 11 or 12 would be better, is this possible? Has anyone else done this and what was the result? And how good is the stock turbo?

i have the r33 series 2 turbo on my r32 gtst and i run 15psi high boost and it hasnt faulted me but low boost is set to 10psi what usually gets drivin round on but i think with the African American engine u should stay 12 max!

holy shit i just said the african american engine hahahahahahaha trippin... was ment to say witth the bigger engine should stay 12 psi max

^^ lol WTF haha

Anyway I rann 14psi on mine.....and it eventually snapped the shaft so i would be keeping it at around 12psi too, it starts to make more het than power after then anyway as it is well and truly starting to run out of puff

I run 12 PSI on stock ECU & catback with no issues so far (6 months), 150rwkw on a mainline dyno.

But anything above stock be prepared you are taking a risk, stock 33 turbos can be picked up sub $400 if you do pop one though.

I'm on a budget but have similar setup

running 10psi with no dramas on r33 with catback and r34 smic

next step is dump, fuel pump and safcii

12psi should be fine as long as your not doing circuit work,

eg constantly on boost. Occasional blat like on public roads

won't get ur egt's that high

interested in results rb25 owners have from vg30 steel

wheel turbos. Seem to go cheap and bit tougher

Sorry, i didn't mention, i have fully replaced the exhaust system, including the dump pipe. Had it custom made 3inches all the way back.

Im running it at 10 PSI and it seems to be working fine, but with this set up you guys reckon dont push it past 12? until i get an aftermarket ECU?

    • It is a kunfine Android screen . Does anyone know the wirering diagram of the fuga ??
    • just an update to this, poor man pays twice  Tried sanding down the pulleys but it didnt do the trick. Chucked another second hand alternator in the na car which I got for free off my mate and its fixed the squelling. Must have been unlucky with the bearings.    As for my turbo car, I managed to pick up a cwc rb alternator conversion bracket + LS alternator for 250 off marketplace, looked to be in really good nick. Installed it , started the car and its not charging the battery.... ( Im not good with auto elec stuff so im not sure if this was all I needed to do but I verified such by using a multimeter on the battery when the engine was running and I was only getting 12.2v )   I had to modify the earth strap for the new LS alternator , factory earth strap was a 10mm bolt which did not fit the bolt on the LS alternator which was double the size so I cut it off , went to repco bought some ring terminals that fit, crimped it onto the old earth strap and bolted it up to the alternator , started the car and same issue. Ran like shit and was reading 12.2 at the battery.  For a "plug and play" advertised kit thats not very plug and play but alas.  My question is , am I missing something ? Ive been reading that some people recommend upgrading the stock 80 amp alternator fuse to a 140 amp but I dont see how that would stop the alternator charging especially at idle not under load.  Regardless ive pulled it out and am going to get it bench tested by an auto elec tomorrow but it would be handy to know if ive missed something silly or have done something wrong.
    • My wild guess is that you have popped off an intake pipe....check all of the hoses between the turbo and the throttle for splits or loose clamps.
    • Awesome, thanks for sharing!
    • To provide more specific help, more information is needed. What Android screen? What is its wiring diagram? Does the car's wiring have power at any required BAT and ACC wires, and is the loom's earth good?
