Hey guys im building a new R324door project car, and im looking for the right turbo to suit my needs! Its got an RB25DET S1 Motor. Came like that when i brought no other mods.

im not looking for Huge power as its a drift car. so not looking for a lag power monster. so mid-range turbo with response would be ideal.

it would be good to hear what you other drifters are useing and your supported mods.

External gate or internal gated turbos.

Iv checked the RB25 Thread, the GT30 seems like the popular one but there are so many types!

The cars current modds,

Rb25det

Racing logic Coilovers Track ver

Front and Rear Strut Bracing

JJR coil packs

Bosh 040 fuel pump

intercooler

boost controller, 12psi

quickshift

all oil temp water presure gagues ect

WTB? Turbo, manifold, ext Gate, computer,

anyways let me know your drift set up! to help me build mine! Heres some pics to show you what were workin with here!

Cheers

Yes i agree with u, the coil-overs are very average i brought there old model back in 2004, and they were of higher quality then the new ones! but they will have to do for now!..

GT3071? what specs?? and will this make boost relatively early? when are you making full boost?

i havnt hurd of the hypergear Tr43?? anyone useing it?

any drifters out there with some dyno results of there drift machine?

Cheers!

GT3071 or hypergear tr43, power fc.

if you havent already bought those coil-overs try some thing esle as they are pretty average.

wouldnt you rather the 6 blade 3076 over the 3071? from what ive been seeing it should be superior in spool and power?

im keen to hear experienced opinions, ive been reading for weeks on end and still havent formed a solid opinion.

Why don't you just put it into the search function?

There are several 10+ page threads on the turbos.

If you are actually serious about it all - then go and read them, then you probably don't even need this thread :)

The fact you are a drifter makes about zero difference to any of the other 100 threads we have now on GT30XX turbo's.

hey iv read all the forums fact is most people dont mind the lag for power.. i dont need the huge power.. and yes i know how to search and didnt find what im looking for so this is plan B.

What do you mean you didnt find what you wanted?

You don't actually state what you want.

280-320rwkw seems to be GT3076

250-280rwkw seems to be GT3071

Thats in the Garretts.

There are the cheaper bush bearing items from Hypergear - you'll have to read the 10+ page thread on those though, im not 100% what is what.

Then you have GCG hi-flows, 260rwkw using the R34 GT-t turbo/OP6 rear housing.

So decide what you want, work it out from what is above, and go search. Trust me when i say the info is here.

Trust me When i say i havnt found what im looking for! or i wouldnt have posted anything.. iv been on SAU allll Day!

When i built my last car, i didnt ask questions. and ended up with something i didnt want because some people over rate there turbos? y i dont know..

I didnt State what i want because im um sure? so im asking people who might have been looking for the same thing and found it?

Iv been looking at (thanks to GTScott GT3071,) Cheers for the advise. looks alright so far but still havnt seen a dyno print out with RPM range. (still looking)

GT3071

GT3540? some people say there better then the GT30's..

TD06 20G: from what i have read seems alright but where to find one?

T04E?? few people make these including cheap chinese ones, any one useing this?

GT28RS?

i would prefer a top mount turbo set up?

if i got 250RWKW id be overly happy! Response is what i want.

R31Nismoid - You have a say in most Topics on SAU, Maybe you can help me narrow my options down? from what u know and if you were in my position what would you go for?

Cheers

R34 OP6 hiflow

ull get the 250 and it will be about as responsive as you can get. problem solved lol

You still ain't said a thing about what you want power/budget wise in 3 posts now...

ok so finally we are getting somewhere.

250rwkw with response, that is simple.

GCG hi-flow. You don't even need a R34 turbo for that.

It is low mount, it is internal gate.

So none of the "show" you drifters seem to like, but it's certainly the bet tool for what you want.

Or you can settle for 230-240rwkw and get a HKS 2535, now THAT would be even more-so responsive. Super snappy

my setup; Gt3582 with .63 rear +supporting mods+ pfc.

Boost at 3200, full boost at 4500ish.

I like it, even works well on tight 2nd gear corners.

Response is important but not crucial, afterall it IS a drift car your after and u dont drift at 2900rpm. Im happy with the lag, considering I usually use 5000+rpms.

If your still in the ''i need response uleh i drift at 30kms in 5th gear, so i need BOOOST'' mindset, consider this.

A mate is also putting on a gt3582 on his SR20 drift car.. a bit of perspective for u

With that being said! would the GT3071R Spool up quicker then the GT3582? iv read alot of people say the GT35's are better?

HKS GT2835 PROS Or HKS 3037S

the 1st is internal gate make good power and responds everywhere. 2nd is ext gate depending on which rear housing you get it is responds and makes good power (400 figures)

2835 pros full boost around 3000rpm (18psi), however as mention above 99% of the time when your on the track you are in your power band so lag isn't a issue.

pick your power range, and then your price range.

my setup in my r33 (and i use it for drift is)

hks gt2835 pros (will be replace with a hks 3037s in feb)

pfc, z32, nismo 600cc injectors, splitfire coilpacks, gtr plenum, greddt intercooler, blitz id-3 ebc, hks exhaust etc etc

Also you don't need that much power to drift, get yourself an LSD before you start chasing power

Also you don't need that much power to drift, get yourself an LSD before you start chasing power

i have a nice 2way LSD... i just forgot to add it! Also 3" straight thou pipe turbo back...

the car drift's well ATM just not holding the big 3rd gear corners! iv really gotta through her around. bogs out hard.

what kind of power did you make on your set up? sounds super responsive!

sounds like something i might like... also a little laggyer then that wouldnt bother me. full boost by 3800 - 4grand would be great!

Cheers for the input any one eles?

any GT3071r drivers out there?

any one used a turbonetics t04e turbo?

With that being said! would the GT3071R Spool up quicker then the GT3582? iv read alot of people say the GT35's are better?

Of course it would!

Pairing a 700hp compressor with a rear that will only flow ~500hp is silly anyway.

3071 for 250rwkw is a very good choice - as are a few othre turbos (HKS items) mentioned in this thread.

Fact of the matter is a 700hp compressor for ~400hp is pointless.

I totally agree with u R31Nismoid its very pointless!

after this topic looks like im steering towards the GT3071R or HKS GT28RS

anyone out there with a GT3071R on Rb25 with some Dyno print outs?

any one eles out there feel free to add what u rekon should go in this?

Thanks for your help guys!

the OP should search my post history and suss out my results on my car. i too had/have a r32 4 door drift car with rb25det. I was making 280 rwkw with a 3071R with .73 rear housing still lowmount and IW. I also ran cams and saw peak power at 6900 rpm at 16 psi. There was stacks of midrange and had no issues frying the tyres.

    • As discussed in the previous post, the bushes in the 110 needed replacing. I took this opportunity to replace the castor bushes, the front lower control arm, lower the car and get the alignment dialled in with new tyres. I took it down to Alignment Motorsports on the GC to get this work done and also get more out of the Shockworks as I felt like I wasn't getting the full use out of them.  To cut a very long story short, it ended up being the case the passenger side castor arm wouldn't accept the brand new bush as the sleeve had worn badly enough to the point you could push the new bush in by hand and completely through. Trying a pair of TRD bushes didn't fix the issue either (I had originally gone with Hardrace bushes). We needed to urgently source another castor arm, and thankfully this was sourced and the guys at the shop worked on my car until 7pm on a Saturday to get everything done. The car rides a lot nicer now with the suspension dialled in properly. Lowered the car a little as well to suit the lower profile front tyres, and just bring the car down generally. Eternally thankful for the guys down at the shop to get the car sorted, we both pulled big favours from our contacts to get it done on the Saturday.  Also plugged in the new Stedi foglights into the S15, and even from a quick test in the garage I'm keen to see how they look out on the road. I had some concerns about the length of the LED body and whether it'd fit in the foglight housing but it's fine.  I've got a small window coming up next month where I'll likely get a little paint work done on the 110 to remove the rear wing, add a boot wing and roof wing, get the side skirt fixed up and colour match the little panel on the tail lights so that I can install some badges that I've kept in storage. I'm also tempted to put in a new pair of headlights on the 110.  Until then, here's some more pictures from Easter this year.
    • I would put a fuel pressure gauge between the filter and the fuel rail, see if it's maintaining good fuel pressure at idle going up to the point when it stalls. Do you see any strange behavior in commanded fuel leading up to the point when it stalls? You might have to start going through the service manual and doing a long list of sensor tests if it's not the fuel system for whatever reason.
    • Hi,  Just joined the forum so I could share my "fix" of this problem. Might be of use to someone. Had the same hunting at idle issue on my V36 with VQ35HR engine after swapping the engine because the original one got overheated.  While changing the engine I made the mistake of cleaning the throttle bodies and tried all the tricks i could find to do a throttle relearn with no luck. Gave in and took it to a shop and they couldn't sort it. Then took it to my local Nissan dealership and they couldn't get it to idle properly. They said I'd need to replace the throttle bodies and the ecu probably costing more than the car is worth. So I had the idea of replacing the carbon I cleaned out with a thin layer of super glue and it's back to normal idle now. Bit rough but saved the car from the wreckers 🤣
    • After my last update, I went ahead with cleaning and restoring the entire fuel system. This included removing the tank and cleaning it with the Beyond Balistics solution, power washing it multiple times, drying it thoroughly, rinsing with IPA, drying again with heat gun and compressed air. Also, cleaning out the lines, fuel rail, and replacing the fuel pump with an OEM-style one. During the cleaning process, I replaced several hoses - including the breather hose on the fuel tank, which turned out to be the cause of the earlier fuel leak. This is what the old fuel filter looked like: Fuel tank before cleaning: Dirty Fuel Tank.mp4   Fuel tank after cleaning (some staining remains): Clean Fuel Tank.mp4 Both the OEM 270cc and new DeatschWerks 550cc injectors were cleaned professionally by a shop. Before reassembling everything, I tested the fuel flow by running the pump output into a container at the fuel filter location - flow looked good. I then fitted the new fuel filter and reassembled the rest of the system. Fuel Flow Test.mp4 Test 1 - 550cc injectors Ran the new fuel pump with its supplied diagonal strainer (different from OEM’s flat strainer) and my 550cc injectors using the same resized-injector map I had successfully used before. At first, it idled roughly and stalled when I applied throttle. Checked the spark plugs and found that they were fouled with carbon (likely from the earlier overly rich running when the injectors were clogged). After cleaning the plugs, the car started fine. However, it would only idle for 30–60 seconds before stalling, and while driving it would feel like a “fuel cut” after a few seconds - though it wouldn’t fully stall. Test 2 – Strainer swap Suspecting the diagonal strainer might not be reaching the tank bottom, I swapped it for the original flat strainer and filled the tank with ~45L of fuel. The issue persisted exactly the same. Test 3 – OEM injectors To eliminate tuning variables, I reinstalled the OEM 270cc injectors and reverted to the original map. Cleaned the spark plugs again just in-case. The stalling and “fuel cut” still remained.   At this stage, I suspect an intermittent power or connection fault at the fuel pump hanger, caused during the cleaning process. This has led me to look into getting Frenchy’s fuel hanger and replacing the unit entirely. TL;DR: Cleaned and restored the fuel system (tank, lines, rail, pump). Tested 550cc injectors with the same resized-injector map as before, but the car stalls at idle and experiences what feels like “fuel cut” after a few seconds of driving. Swapped back to OEM injectors with original map to rule out tuning, but the issue persists. Now suspecting an intermittent power or connection fault at the fuel pump hanger, possibly cause by the cleaning process.
