If you wikipedia R34 gtr it goes through the variants and what the differences are, Nur has the N1 motor with different cams and a few other mods plus paint and some goodies. The M spec is a more a softy with "ripple control suspension" .

Thanks but what I'd like to know is the turbo? Stock gtr or the steel ones just as the N1s.

Also, wiki doesnt say its the same motor as N1, which is why I asked that question. It says "based" so its really just saying similiar. Maybe the NURs owner can clarify this with VIN?

The Nür model featured an improved RB26DETT based on the N1 racing engine, used by Nismo in Motorsports.
what is it that one would expect to be the difference between a V-Spec II and a V-Spec II Nur? I ask as I don't know and I'm admittedly hoping that you'll collectively pardon my laziness and someone will take 2 minutes to type 3 lines to explain!?

there is a big difference between the VspecII and the VspecII Nur.

VspecII is not much different from a Vspec or even non vspec. they have uprated suspension, rear diffuser and a few very minor tweaks.

the NUR however has:

carbon bonnet

R34 N1 engine (has N1 block, N1 pistons, hand built, full balanced, N1 cams, N1 oil and water pumps, and yes it has N1 turbos)

very rare (heaps of VSII's many less Nur's)

all Nur's are 2002 models

there are some other differences but the biggie is the engine and the exclusivity of it.

Thank you kind Sir again. What would the stock engine be capable of handling in terms of power output before going forged internals?

you mean the stock N1/Nur engine? they are quite happy with 550-600hp providing you do the supporting cooling and driveline mods in a street car and occasional track day car. If it's going to be an all out track car on slicks or new semis then I'd lower that limit down to around 500hp to help keep it alive.

as long as temps, oil surge, and tune are managed properly 600hp for an N1 engine is a snap. As long as it's not detonating the pistons will last as will everything else. up to around 350rwkw is the sweet spot. Once you get much past that you will have spent so much on other bits (driveline, brakes, suspension, engine accessories, turbos etc) that you might as well do a forged build and dry sump it (if it's a track car). in serious GTR the $10K spent on a basic rebuild is just a drop in the ocean, money wise.

but yeah, there is no inherent design flaws in the engine components that limit the power. it's more a matter of having adequate cooling, oil supply and good tuning.

to sumarise:

street/track-day = 600hp

dedicated race car = 550hp

but of course with the right gear you could have one making 1000hp but any hint of DET or cooling problems would see it end fairly quickly. :(

Clear and precise. Exactly what I'm after, thank you.

The reason for asking is because everyone's been telling me the block itself is good more than a 1000hp but never got around knowing what is the limit of the stock engine itself (this come to my mind when people go on about how the 2jz are capable of high hp without engine mods when comparing to rb26).

As you've mentioned, most owners of N1/NUR I know or read of would run their car stock to around 300-350rwkw (above 20psi) because thats what the whole stock car is capable of without really having the need of any supporting mods (e.g. clutch, fuel etc) but anything more you'll be looking at upgrading the fuel system at the very least.

And really to me, to mod the N1/NUR to the extend of forged internal or even turbo defeats the purpose of having that car (even for putting a/c on mine I've already got people telling me the same thing...). Anyway the factory oil cooler is a very nice to have and I'm sure there no real need in upgrading that too.

Unfortunately R34's never came with a factory oil cooler, unless you have the Pommie model :)

Hey? I thought N1 oil cooler's a standard factory item for N1s? Or you're saying the NURs doesnt have them?

Hey Kristian. Any web sites you can recommend for info and specs on N1's /Nur's

Good Luck Kimbod!

Recently I had seen quite a few R34 N1s for sale ... currently I am also hunting for a Nur ... the Last one that got sold in Auction was back in Feb ...

Let me know if you come across any :P

Hey l180sxl. Mate I got a v spec N1[ 2000] 29000kms, one owner and log books . and hopefully it should be here soon. she is beautiful. Just like specs and details on things . we were top bidders on a number of cars , M spec, N1's and others, but below reserve

How many R34 N1's were made?

lol I've been wondering the same thing lately given how many seem to be coming through auction!

I know you already know the answer, but:

45 V-Spec N1s, 12 of which were track-only, most of the rest were purchased for road use/modification by race teams anyway. Mines obviously had one, so did TRIAL at some point.

To the best of my knowledge, 18 V-Spec II N1s were built, 3 of which, ironically, reside in Australia.

    • For these last 7 years of ownership, I've always had to use a small scissor jack under one of the front tow hooks to raise the front just enough so my low-profile jack fits under to reach my subframe jack point. I'm beginning to get annoyed of always having to do this. Are there any lower low-profile jacks that fit under the gtr lip on a dropped car?
    • Seat of the pants assessment of the new intake: The car is way less "doughy" when hitting the loud pedal, especially off idle when stopped or in traffic, I did use a cheapo lazer thermal thingo to measure the temp around where the pod filter got its air, it was between 55 - 60°C, in saying this the car was shut off and not moving, so the OEM intake pipe was not supplying any fresh air to where the pod was when the car was at least moving A weird bonus was induction noise on the throttle in the cabin increased a bit,  I was worried that I was actually going to lose some of that induction noise I love so much, outside though, when I got the daughter to do a WOT drive by pass for me, the induction noise has increased alot when on the throttle, not quite ITB doort, but well up there I'm extremely happy with the results and have been exploring the country roads in the region  As for house mods: 1.New front fence is up and is awesome, it really upgraded how the joint looks from the street, and the added security is nice 2. Electricians have replace some interior lights, and with more lighting in the garage, a few new motion detecting lights out the front above the garage, front room, and at the front door, which I have already found heaps helpful coming and going, also now has fancy pants CCTV all round the house The only hold point for power though is the solar and batteries due to supply issues, although this will happen over the next few weeks 3. I have done a heap of landscaping out the front and I'm almost ready to do a new small retaining wall with some nice blocks to replace the brick and cemented in rocks around the raised garden beds cemented in river stone "was the fashion at the time" the house was built. I currently have a pallet of retaining wall blocks and 2 bulka bags of 20mm blue metal to replace the wood chip that is in the raised garden beds around the house 4. I now have 3 big raised garden beds for out the back to grow some vegetables, about 70cm high, 200cm long and 100cm wide 5. My 2 compost bins are already pretty full with brown, green and kitchen waste from the landscaping I'vedone so far, but they will probably take a few months to break down, so anything else that gets chopped, trimmed, and kitchen waste will just start filling the base of the raised garden beds to about 30cm before I start throwing 40cm of good compost, and stuff, for the vegetables to grow in, I'll need a few ton of compost and soil, but the local supplier can sent me bulka bags of the stuff Basically the logs, wood chips and a few strategically placed rocks for drainage, will give the beds some good organic materials down low to break down over time, and they will hold moisture during the warmer months to save the water in my big arse water tank if we don't get alot of rain So, all in all, the car and house mods are going well, and I'm really enjoying being retired, I sleep in too 0700 and slowly plod around inside until I feel like actually doing anything, and only work in the yard for as long as want, which has actually been alot over the last few weeks,  although when you look at it, it seems that not a huge amount of work has been done,  until I look at the before I started the work pics Happy days and good times indeed
    • hahaha yeah. Plan is to get side skirts and probably just rear pods. But going to do them one-by-one. I've got a set that I really like from RHDJapen, but that one isn't shipped to AU. So need to find someone who can get it for me
    • Here's an idea, answer the questions I asked you as they are trying to work out WHY the LSD will be binding up in a straight line.
