well, just did a suspected ringland in my 32 GTR. Starting pumping massive amounts of smoke out of the catch can, lost power, lost compression. So now im guessing im gonna rebuild it.

Whos had it done? where did you get it done and what mods did you do, and most importantly, how much did it cost?

Cheers,

Dan

If i was to get one rebuilt, I'd be trusting the guys I get to do everything (Hint ; theyre in my sig) but if they couldnt do it, I would go to Mildrens (North) or Manta (South)

Just make sure u do the research and use the right preventative parts, if you do a good rebuild it'll last u a lot longer than just replacing stock parts.

I'd be hitting up Rhemac. I've not dealt with them personally but know a few people who have and not a bad thing to say and awesome engines to boot. Honestly though, go to a couple of places and speak with the people, that's the best way to get a read on them, see what they offer, how much, etc and make your choice from there

having done this myself in the past 12 months... I can definately tell you who NOT to use,

however if I was to do it again, i'd probably go with Chris Milton (http://www.miltonengines.com.au/index.htm)

My advice is speak to a few different ones, get written quotes, do as much research as you can before committing to anyone.

Goodluck mate..

assembly of a bottom end or heads makes no difference whether it's a pushrod motor, OHC or even diesel.....knowledge of tolerances & procedures is what you need.

I'd personally be getting an engine reconditioner to do the assembly not a tune shop or service & repair shop........unless it's Willal or JK.

Peter Hall (ex Willall Racing) at JMS or James from Nisspeed :D
pete is a champ!

Unless he has changed jobs since late last year Peter Hall is the manager of Autosport on Magill Rd and no longer does engine rebuilds (it was one of the reasons that he left Willall).

I used Steve Cramp at Manta Racing. He will be more expensive than most places you go to but, as in most things in life, you pay for what you get. Peter Hall recommended Steve to me and I continue to use Manta to this day for all work on my GTR. After going to 6 places I'm happier to pay more for someone who won't make a mistake or try and cut costs. Do it once, do it properly. If only all others within the car industry were as good.

If my 26 went bang,

I would choose a tuner that I would stick to, and then I would goto an engine builder that they use, that way the two go together and the tuner will know 100% what work has been done and then the tuning will perfectly compliment the engine build so once you work out whose going to tune your car, go from there.

I've heard nothing but good things from Lewis engines too.

Rhemac at Gawler - Best place in SA for engine work and machining. John from their servicing department knows his RBs inside and out, as he was at JMS back in the days and has built a few.....

Plus an employee built a "no expence spared" RB26 over 400 AWKW and reved to over 10K, from what I've been told.

    • Before I get to the test day, just to finish off the android head unit. This is a demo from car start up....the standard/host system takes a few seconds to boot (same as all v37) but Android comes up quickly. In this vid I'm using the delivered launcher but have set the default to Agami since which is easier to navigate when if use primarily 5 apps. You can see the host system still takes over when required eg putting it in reverse, and you can switch between Android and not by holding the back button 3 sec. It is pretty responsive (fast) but you can see I had to press harder than expected a couple of times.  I still have the phone connected to the stock system, and that also seamlessly takes over Android music playing. v37-android-demo.mp4 The bigger reason that I put this in though is so that I can use Ecutek directly on the head unit. That gives me a dash with logging (up to 20MB only), high and low value warnings on any parameter etc etc. I've run a USB cable from the Ecutek OBD dongle to a USB input on the unit, easy. v37-ecutek-demo.mp4   The unit did freeze on the launcher the other day, I think Agami was trying to verify the license when it didn't have a data connection...will monitor and report back if there are any other problems but so far I'm very happy with the upgrade.
    • Nah that is just crappy GPS mapping, I did have a small excursion (cold tyres, damp track, surprise!), will post up that when I get a chance.
    • So 10/10 times that code is coil packs? I mean if that's the case ill drop the $400USD or so to replace them. I didn't know these cars threw codes before the issue became an issue.
