19 Inch Slicks Or Semi Slicks

White 35 and I are awaiting delivery of our Volk RE30 rims and are interested to know if anyone has had experience with 19 inch slicks or semis. They are the rage in the US, and I know a number of you have opted for 18s here. We know there are Hoosiers and Toyos, is anyone aware of any other options?

Michelin PSC come in 19s on the GT2/3 and with BMWs CSL.

Im sure you can get a slick in that size now days even though 18s are probably the norm.

Michelin PSC isnt going to compete against a good R compound let alone a real slick IMO.

And i dont fancy you getting a proper slick in 19" either

I think you are stick with the 888's (good luck) or Hoosier's (better)

Different sizes of the Michelin Pilot Sport Cup tyres have different load indexes.

I didnt know that, good pickup/find.

If you must run 19's i would give them a good look. Otherwise the USA guys seem to love the hoosiers.

Give Bob Jane at Haberfield a call 9798 8844‎, speak with Steve or Daniel.

They will be able to steer you in the right direction as they do the tyres for quite a lot of track cars, GTRs, Porkas, Ferrari's etc.

Yes the 18's are about availability (and cost) really.

Also the 19" r-spec options (i think only 888's?) just don't compete with RE55's. So in my case 18" was the only choice (they dont make re55's biger than 18"). However on slicks the 19" Hoosier (or perhaps the Michelin 19") would be worth a look. I do think they will be a lot more expensive though, so i am not sure why anyone should bother.

If you want a tyre that you can drive to the track and back, and run pretty close to slick shod times, get some 18" TE37's (or Enkei GTC01's) with 295 RE55's SR2's all round. No other road legal tyre is going to come close i reckon (would love to try the advan 50's but they dont make them big enough). If you dont care about being road legal and/or you're happy to swap the tyres at the track, perhaps the 19" slicks are good. Would love to get some feedback from the GT series R35 running them.

I need 19s as I will be doing targa with mine. targa allows no more than 1 inch + or-.

What size and type of tyre are you guys thinking. i want all tyres the same size to make it easier for spares.

Why do you need 19's for Targa?

I had the Pirelli P Zero Corsa on my porsche 911s and they were awesome. Running 19's on the GTR you will save probably at least 5kg per cnr and they should be pretty good on the road. Guessing you might want to run 315/30/19s on 11inch rims rear and 295/30/19s on 10 inch at the front? thats just a guess?

Righto because 09GTR and I want complete track spec tyre no compromise we are going to give the 19's a shot - we will run Hoosiers on track (approx 7kg lighter per wheel i think) and stick with standard rims & bridgestone / dunlops for the road.

There is word that Bridgestone may be replacing the re55s with the re11s and it will be avaliable in a 19 sometime in the future. Fingers crossed.

Fall back position will be to run R888's if we cant use hoosiers at some events.

Surely its only a matter of time before these tyre companies make more options avaliable in 19's.

We will report back once we have done some track time on the Hoosiers.

there is definitely an 18" TE37 that fits the R35. a few people have run them. Don't expect anywhere in Australia to have these in stock though, especially in the staggered offset required for r35 (let me know if you do find a place!). Caliper clearance will be very small (2mm or 3mm if that)

"Brembo recommends a minimum clearance of 3mm between the caliper and the wheel spoke or rim."

Caliper to wheel clearance is part of the reason why a number of R35's run 19 inch track wheels instead of 18 inch track wheels.

Hi Jeremy,

Standard factory colours for the TE37's are are white or bronze. They can also be ordered in optional colours at an additional cost.

There are 3 optional black finishes for the TE37s - black, matt black and diamond black.
