Hey,

I'm going top mounted turbo on my car and found these cheap (chinese I'm presuming) mild steel manifolds. Anyone here had one?

What are you opinions on them?

Heres the link: http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=272001198

Cheers

a well known reputable manifold is sub $1200

the 6boost one's are $1200 ish

hks ones are $1200 ish

you expect a cheap knock off @ $400

to withstand 1000deg+ EGT's

hold the weight of your turbocharger

and for it to perform?

good luck :D

What's the thickness of pipe, flanges???

Sinco Customs makes good quality top mount steampipe exhaust manifolds in NZ -

10 year gaurantee to not to crack. Also made of 3.7mm thick steampipe that keeps heat in and exhaust velocity up and 12mm flanges that won't warp. 20-30kw gains with higher boost levels.

Yea, well we can't all afford expensive manifolds so trying to get as good as I can for my price range, just wanting something better than the chinese stainless manifolds as we all know what they're like.

Not too sure to be honest SKYPER, have asked the seller a question on the auction. How much are the Sinco ones? Don't have a great deal of money to spend on it

By the time one cheap manifold dies, and you replace it with another cheap one...

The decent manifold works out cheaper

I would just get a chinese one and mount the turbo and exhaust correctly, if fitted correctly they often last ages. Its when they get fitted with the weight of the turbo and exhaust hanging off it that they crack

Apart from using a Gibson Motorsport style hanger/brace, how do you avoid the weight of a turbo hanging off the manifold?

Support it partially with the exhaust. IMO it is usually the exhaust that causes the problem, imagine the force that an unhung exhaust puts on the manifold as you are bouncing along in a lowered car.

I also machine both manifold surfaces before fitting and whenever refitting if necessary.

Poorly hung exhaust systems will often be accompanied by vibrations so shouldn't be that hard to spot. Agreed, the type of leverage they can place on the turbo and manifold are likely to cause problems.

One thing I see as a possible plus for this particular manifold is that it's not stainless steel. Perhaps not as fatigue prone either?

It's a bit of a judgement call, but at the price point perhaps worth a second look. I do agree that the other named brands are known quantities and come ready to bolt up, not requiring extra facing or bracing, or internal finishing that costs time and/or money.

Sinco Customs NZ$1000 to $1200 depending om wastgate configuration.

    • Hello!  i just finished manual swaping my r34 skyline with a r33 rb20de box(RB71C)box  When the car is running it squeaks crazy loud and it was smoking from the gearbox area. The gearbox is fine it was tested. The clutch slave cylinder seems like it doesn't fully releases the clutch. I want to ask if this noise is from the throw out bearing or could it be the clutch assembly or disk att.xFliq87Gzw6kImKBVqDebXkj0fBqymk0JaYeP3_3SlM.mp4
    • A few small updates since the previous post and lessons. I decided to do a little interior light upgrade on the 110. I quite like the iilumo items, even if they're a bit of a premium over other brands. You'll also note the Stedi Fogs, that will go into the S15 fog lights as I needed to match the bulbs since I got the new ones earlier. I hope they fit as the body is quite a bit longer than your normal bulb.  Annoyingly, I managed to trip the fuse, which normally wouldn't be an issue until I located the fuse. I can't say I've ever come across this. I had lucked out that someone nearby had a spare, but oddly enough Toyota dealerships seem to keep this in stock. I ordered some to keep in my stash and as luck would have it, someone else nearby tripped the same fuse so I passed on the favour.  I also did a little service on the 110 ahead of some additional work coming up. It's been annoying that Goleby's stopped carrying this particular HKS filter for the 110, so now I need to keep them on order from Japan. I also took the opportunity to install a bash plate and number plate riser. The plate riser is such a cheap but nice fix to help really tidy up the car. I'm tempted to now also replace my headlights, on this car. Both items were from Project Aero.    I also needed to replace the rear tyres on the 110, and after trying to get it aligned learnt that I need to replace some bushes in the front end, so that's next.  Closing out this update with a nicer picture as always!
    • Yeah mate, never miss it.
