Hey all my first post!!! had a quick search couldnt find what i was after, I am curious to know how strong the ceramic wheeled turbos that come stock with my GTR??

What amount of 'torture' can they withstand??

And also what are some of your opinions of the ARC super induction box??

thanks

nick

std ceramic exhaust wheel like the other gtr ones

it may fail if you go over 12psi ish

if it fails, it can kill the engine

So would it be better to leave on standard boost and save up for new turbos??

Say N1s or GTSS or garret equivalent

If you go R34 GTR N1's, they are pretty much the equivalent to HKS GTSS, different Compressor Housing and Compressor Wheel.

Specs wise is very similar, but max power output is approx:

N1's = 367.75 kW

GTSS = 411.88

... From memory.

WRAOWNG - Neg.

2860-7s ARE r34 N1s and 2859-9s are HKS GTSS without actuators (i believe 2859-1 are the same with the actuators attached or get -9s and use ur stock actuators)

N1s are not GTSS, they are 2 different turbos.

N1s are alot like stock but stronger as not ceramic, go the GTSS (-9)

Ah yeah!

Fuck, I over looked that on my turbo chart.

Thanks.

BTW there are 3 Spec of R34 GTR N1's :P

I just compared the specs and they were quite similar but the GTSS and -7's are pretty much inline ball with each other... Like you said.

GTR R34N1 (14411-AA403)

GT22 / C106 / 44.5 - 60.0 / 55T / 0.42 / T25 / GT25 / 42.4 - 53.8 / 62T / 0.64 / Ball Bearing.

HKS GT-SS

T3 / C106 / 44.5 - 60.0 / 55T / 0.6 / T25 / GT25 / 42.4 - 53.8 / 62T / 0.64 / Ball Bearing.

34N1 (14411-AA402)

T3 / C106 / 44.5 - 60.0 / 55T / 0.6 / T25 / GT25 / 42.4 - 53.8 / 62T / 0.64 / Ball Bearing

Pretty much the same but the Compressor Housing and the Compressor A/R are different.

  • 3 years later...

Stock R34 GTR turbos run around 0.8 bar boost with restrictor in. With boost restrictor removed they run about 1 bar. On the ball bearing turbos 1 bar is fine.

Problem is, most people think their boosted 'genuine' 60,000km gtr will withstand 1 bar forever... Only to realise the Turbos have done more like '160,000' km's after they go bang.

    • I can see between the water jacket and cyl 3 there wasn't a hard line of combustion gas. It certainly appears that the issue is coming from there. Yes, checked the tension. All at 100ft lbs where I set them 5 years ago. These blocks can crack but generally when they have been over bored. Mine is only 0.5mm oversize at 89.5mm. They break between cylinders around the 91mm mark. No sign of that with mine. My gut feeling is the head gasket lifted a while back when the studs stretched and i bandaided it by retorquing the studs. It's finally let go.

    • So, version 4 intake is on its way I was looking at these a while ago but at around $200 or more it was a little pricey for something that might not work, but, I had it in my watch list, but, I got a message saying it was on special, and I had a code thingie to use, it eventually came in at $120 delivered, so BAM, BUY NOW.....LOL I'll need to have a look when it arrives but I feel it will "look" better than what I currently have, as it comes with a PCV fitting, so I will be able to get rid of the alloy pipe that goes to the throttle body with the PCV fitting  Well, that's what the voices in my head are telling me  Oh, and this happened today Yeap, it was a Trojan, and it was cheap, so I headed back to the hardware store and actually spent a little bit more on a heavy duty,  one that was actually recommended by a plumber mate, a Cyclone one with a fibreglass handle that is actually rated for clay The broken shovel will eventually be "modified" into a short handle shovel
