"Police said the driver will have to pay almost $1000 in fines and fees for collecting his car from the impounding yard."

I don't think he'll be overly concerned about the $1000 considering he owns a car that costs hundreds of thousands.

No kidding. My girlfriend's father owns a Maserati and he says he could take the family on a holiday for the same price it costs to replace the tyres (at the Maserti dealership)!

I impounded a Lamborghini murcielago on Christmas eve so he ended up losing it for 6 days. Was his dad's car too. Shouldn't drive at 150++ in 80 Zone

Don't think I would want to be at that familys christmas dinner :)

150kmh in a supercar in an 80kmh zone isn't a very good idea, as was shown when that guy killed himself and a girl out at Seville in a Ferrari a couple of years ago.

No kidding. My girlfriend's father owns a Maserati and he says he could take the family on a holiday for the same price it costs to replace the tyres (at the Maserti dealership)!

mine too!

although Zagame let him borrow cars to test for the weekend, and let him store his there when he goes away on business etc.. i guess that makes up for the rip off p zero rossos!

the fine should replicate the car, like basic speeding fine sure not going to argue, but if you impound granny driven 120y, and they want a grand to release it, would you pay ? it should be more like 5% of car's current estimated value.

but thats not going to slow people down or him, the only thing that can slow people down on the road is severe penalties and huge threats. But then innocent people will get screwed over, yes speeding is a infringement/CRIME but its so easy to do in certain circumstance's, and im excluded sports cars, high powered, anything turbo in this comment. its just way to easy to do 5kmh by accident, the difference is, only so many people get pulled over for it.

the whole safety vs deaths is bullshit, thousands of more cars every day are on the streets, which ARNT getting upgraded at the same pace, over population should mean statistics will always go up, while pen pushing GOV types are saying they will make a difference and reduce road tolls with new laws.

the system doesn't work, just more band aids' on a stupid problem. Australian Police should be keeping people safe, actually respond to relivant 000 calls in a timely manner, and help the comunity, not just take their cash from road fines and say crime is down. Go stand outside any late night venue or nearest car park or still open resturant !

dave.

Surprised he didn't get done for it being too low

car is not allowed to be under 100mm unless it comes from the factory like that, thats how the exotics get away with it, they get adr approved while still being low

i agree with tapering of fines off to reflect the price of the car. i got my $200 bluebird impounded and they wanted $500 to give it back to me :D i just told them to keep it but that wasnt an option either :) talk about hard done by lol

Edited by VB-

he is an idiot, obviously deserving a heavy punishment to be speeding like that in a 50/60 zone...

And with regards to financial differences, fines being hi or low depending on your income. I think fines should be a percentage of the value of your car.

    • Forgot to include this but this is the mid section of my steering rack that looks like it has a thread/can be turned with that notch mentioned in the post:
    • Hey everyone, Wanted to pick some brains about this issue I'm having with rebuilding my 33 rack (PN is 49001-19U05). All of the tutorials/videos I've seen online are either R34 or S Chassis racks which seem to be pretty straightforward to disassemble but this process doesnt carry over to my rack. Few of the key differences that I've noted The pinion shaft on the other racks bolt on with 3 torx bolts: Whereas my rack bolts on with 2 allen head bolts: These changes are pretty inconsequential but the main difference is how you pull the actual rack out of the housing. The other skyline/s chassis racks can be taken out by tapping the rack out of the body with a socket and it just slides right out. I'm unable to do that with my rack because there's a hard stop at the end that doesn't let the seal/shaft be tapped out. Can also see a difference in the other end of the rack where mine has a notch that looks like you're able to use a big wrench to unthread 2 halves of the rack whereas the other racks are just kinda set in with a punch. My rack: Other racks: TLDR; Wanted to know if anyone has rebuilt this specific model of steering rack for the R33 and if there were any steps to getting it done easier or if I should just give this to a professional to get done. Sorry if this post is a bit messy, first one I've done.
    • I would just put EBC back on the "I would not use their stuff" pile and move on.
    • Can I suggest you try EBC directly again and link them to as many competitor catalogues as you can to show their listing is incorrect, eg https://dba.com.au/product/front-4000-series-hd-brake-rotor-dba42304/ If you have access to an R33 GTST VIN and your VIN, you could also use a Nissan Parts lookup like Amayama to show them the part number is different between 33 GTST and 34 GTT which may get their attention
    • So i got reply from EBC and they just this site where you can clearly see those 296mm fronts on R34 GTT. I send them photos and "quotes" that 296mm are not for 34 GTT and they are too small. But it will be very hard to return them cuz nobody here knows 100% and they just copy those EBC catalogue :-D https://ebcbrakesdirect.com/automotive/nissan/skyline-r34
