indeed...it just makes it harder to have a car that can compete in multiple disciplines, which in turn discourages competitors. No doubt many of the rules are a very outdated attempt to keep very old cars competitive.

But ultimately, if one class (SV) is half your entry list then something needs to be done.

When I run CAMS there are going to be 3 classes:

* Production Cars (run under current rules, they are fine for what they are). Also Tarmac Rally cars. Standard turbos, standard boost, standard size wheels, standard injectors/fuel pumps, afms. Currently an evo gift but they are the best production cars around right now. Measured and sealed motor required for racing. Pump Fuel only

* Improved Production Cars (same as current rules but no intake restrictor. Their competitor numbers would go through the roof over night. Yes the 6 rx7s would have to retire but it is ludicrous that they are the only car that can win under current rules). Main limit on performance here is standard size wheels. Pump fuel or e85 only

* Sports Sedans (current rules except 4wd do not have the ridiculous "can't modify the floorpan" rules. weight limits per capacity class is enough). Pump fuel, e85, race fuel, methanol, whatever...anything goes

Those rules would be perfect for supersprints/superlap, hillclimb and racing....break down by class and capacity if necessary....one set of rules to bind them all!

BTW my rules would certainly allow active aero in sports sedans. As per current, no changes to prod cars and minimal, fixed changes to aero in IPRA.

Ok I have been competing in supersprints in NSW since 1999 was only 16 back then but have learnt a lot, so been there and seen a lot of rule changes over the years, and my has been supersprinting since father since 1992.

Yes we all know my father in on the CAMS Panel but only for the last 6 years or so. The reason the rules changed over the years is due to cheaters and keeping all classes competitive for all cars.

Back in the 90’s there was not to much that could beat a Clubman at the race track and we had a massive turn out of them at each round, they used to run in type 1,2,3 and 4 on slicks so you could image it would start to shit fellow competitors, also there was some WRX showing up in Type 2 with an exhaust and suspension mods claiming there boost was stock. At the end of the day you noticed that other cars starting dropping away and not showing up, like MX5, Commodores ect. Yes it was great for Clubmans and Turbo 4WD but I think if there was no change it would have pissed a lot of other people off. So this is when Small Volume (Type SV) comes along.

I know this is a skyline forums so everyone here wants them to win but think of the other competitors running MX5, Holden’s, or even in type 3 Ipra cars, you can’t expect a under 2liter ipra car run to against a clubman or Duncan in his R32 Production race car up against a road car without a out boost restrictor and claiming they run stock boost with a hidden switch YES it has happened. So they got put in Type SV. If we allow EVO’s, GTR’S and Clubmans back into all other types would only piss more people off that who are unhappy now.

In regards to the hill climb rules, Stuart maybe you can inform me of the rules if they have change and have Type SV? As I really don’t know and would like to as i was going to do a few hill climbs again soon, but my brother still holds the record at Huntly for type 2 0-1600 in the PRB on road tyres, I doubt it will be broken by a production car it’s a bit unfair really.

Ok I have written enough now of why SV is around and its to keep other people showing up or we would have the NSW Clubman & GTR- EVO championship in every type well that’s my thoughts....

Well back to some chit chat about work getting done on cars, with still over a month till the next round what work are people up too, any new mods?

Im fitting a new race seat, and will try a bigger fuel pump, jetting on the weber and some dyno time so I don’t run out of fuel down the straight. Hope to get into the 1:47 then.

Enough rules and regs talk, it distracts us from remembering why we like supersprints so much. For me I love getting out there and getting the absoulute maximum out of my car and my abilities. I'm constantly searching for that perfect lap. Quite a challenge.

With the silvia, I'm looking at 2.2 stroker kit, forged internals, 600hp turbo, external gate running 30 psi, PPG gearset, carbon fibre panels, full aero work. The list goes on. Wait! I'm dreaming..lol!!! Not going to happen before next round, but would love to have all those mods one day. Yes one day....

Seriously, the only thing I'll be doing will be putting fuel in it and might give it a wash.

Oh and I would love to get down to 1:45's around the creek, but will be happy if I beat my PB of 1:47.5

BTW, mods sound good Brian. The R100 is a fun little race car.

Just wondering if anyone knows what's going on at the end of year for presentation, where is it being held and when?

I heard last year it was held at Marulan Driver Training Centre and people I spoke to who attended really enjoyed it. I was hoping it would be the same this year?

Can someone please turn off this bloody cold weather so I can at least go out into the garage during the week and work out why I don't have any bloody spark at the coils.

Talking about the weather - bloody last 3 days -6 to -8's thats correct less than zero, middle of the day hasnt been over 9 degrees - buts its looking good - forecast is snow Friday and Saturday

Neil hope you get your wiring sorted out, for EC next round - long range forecast is rain, so an extra wire for a windscreen wiper might be handy.

I have got a big bottle of rainex I can tip on you if you park too close lol

Hope my tyres last, Eastern Creek punishes my front right and both rears compared to Wakefield.

I'm going to dial in some more negative camber on the front to try and help. The front right shoulder really cops it.

Hows the spark going???? Weather's been a bit nicer - you must have found an issue by now! Oh by the way, had some confirmation - ss panel, you can run 4d with slicks stepping up from Type SV, thus, you not having to comply with part of the following 4D based 3D rules

1. Over 6ltr

2. Traction control

3. Paddle gear shift

4. Roll Cage

5. Electronic Aero

6. Log Book

7. Window Net

8. Seats and Harness

and yet to run SV vehicle must be road registered, pending on model of vehicle - this can get tricky eg if the compliance plate states 4 seater / ADRs, air bags etc - this must be maintained, although CAMs approve the removal of rear seat for fitment of rollcage for safety factor, but bugger me 4D isnt a CAMs class anyway and so on !! and apparently by the way - SV doesnt stand for Special Vehicle - this year it is now Small Volume and under the CAMs manual based on 3J, therefore requires no seats, no road registration, but thats only if you want to run state hillclimb, Aussie HC, Aussie SS, world time attack or open race meeting in Australia or Tamania, but does not comply with NSW Supersprints.

Sorry to say, Small Volume / sorry Special Vehicle class did take 5 years to get going and was one of the biggest fields in Hillclimbs and Supersprints - looks like someone f$## it up

Looking to put an entry in this weekend for this. SO PUMPED TO be getting back to EC. Anyone know if its full?

But will need some help. Any SAU NSW folk be in attendance and able to sort me with membership and an L2S licence? My Vic membership and licence has expired whilst I have been in India?

Also, E85 in Sydney or around EC? Readily available or shoudl i best stick with an PUL tune?

...and lastly noise. I read 95 dba at 30 metres. Does that mean some external gate and titanium exhaust means i am going to have issues? The car is pretty loud, and expect even with a plumbed back exhaust it will still have some bark. So how strict are they , or how do external gate setups go at these events (normall)

    • And so, to round this out, I couldn't be happier to confirm @MBS206 has decided to buy the car. He drove down from sunny QLD with a trailer last week and it is off to its new home today. I'll let Matt confirm on next steps but I understand broadly that the plan is to leave it pretty much as is, and just get some quality wheel time with a nicely balanced car that is pretty much track ready. There are a few a jobs still to be done first but nothing too major and I think its a very smart buy Dinner last night at the Paragon with a round of VBs (mostly) for Neil
    • Well, 50 pages and the end of a chapter for this car. We took it out for a shakedown at Wakie yesterday, and everything went well. There were a couple of niggles: - Oil cooler fitting leak - tightened, cleaned, stopped leaking - Radiator cap overflow fitting was leaking....Mark called it, the overflow fitting was threaded in and not tight....tightened, tested and held pressure - Small oil leak at the rear of the block, probably the turbo oil feed - too hot to get at it comfortably but probably just needs to be nipped up - leak at the driver's side rear brake line where it meets the hardline. Fitting wasn't loose, so Matt backed it off and back on, no further leaks - there's also a leak somewhere on the top of the fuel tank, maybe that cross over fuel line - that was has been left to fix when its on a hoist Otherwise than those niggles the car went great, turned great and stopped great so it was a very successful day out. I'm always really nervous when a car first hits the track after a long break, especially with a brand new engine as well but it was great. VID-20251011-WA0007.mp4  Big thanks to @The Bogan who dropped by and helped out, @MBS206 and my nephew Lachlan the apprentice.  Neil's wife Mel also surprised the hell out of all of us by dropping by; she's up in Tamworth these days but was travelling to Melbourne so had plausible deniability for turning up at the garage, it was great to see her but also obviously a bit sad all round.
