Hey guys,

Ive had a search but no real answers.

Wanting to buy a set of Tein Super Street for my R33 GTR. Are there Super Streets made here and ones made in Japan or do they all come from japan?

Is there an Australian version and a Japanses version?

The price difference buying from an Australian store compared to buying from Greenline or nengun is a huge difference.

All teins come from Japan however there is an 'aus-spec' version of the super streets thats sold through Fulcrum suspension. They're the official tein importers for aus. I'm not sure about the differences for skylines but I know with the z32 models (essentially same as r32 gtr) the spring rates are different by a few kg & I believe the dampening my be different also but dont quote me on that.

Regardless of wheter they're 'aus-spec' or 'jap-spec' pretty much any locally bought coilovers will be more expensive then buying straight from japan.

hmmm i was under the impression fulcrum re-valve (dampening) the super streets and leave the springs alone.

That may well be the case with skylines but as i said with the z32 at least the 'aus-spec' super streets have softer spring rates. Easiest way to be sure would be to contact fulcrum.

I've driven an R33 with Jap-spec SS and an R34 with Aus-spec SS...without taking into consideration the differences between these cars, the ride was much the same IMO.

If I recall Jap-spec can't be revalved in Australia where as Aus-spec can?

Hmmm I spent quite a while talking to Luke (I think) from Fulcrum suspension for my R34 GTT and he was telling me the aus spec Tein Super Streets are softer springs as well as dampening to match them. He mentioned 4kg front and 4kg rear for the aus spec compared to 6+ for the jap spec from memory.

if you check the SS specs on nengun, the spring rates are (Nissan ECR33 - F 4.0 R4.0 (kg/mm). and they are definitely jap spec theyre selling. http://www.nengun.com/tein/super-street

when i got my aus specs, i spoke to fulcrum about another matter, and i recall some talk of revalving, but no mention of spring rates.

but since i wasnt actually asking what they do to them, i dont know for sure.

btw, i got mine really cheap. if i was buying at retail, i'd prob go the cheaper option. ie jap spec.

I'm waiting for mine to arrive from Japan as we speak. I have spoken to someone that sat in a car with jap spec ss and aus spec and his comment was if 1 is more than 300 or 400bucks cheaper, get that one. The choice is obvious.

Having said that, if you're after some info on the aus spec one, you can always call Fulcrum Aus up and ask them. They told me they have different spring rate and revalves to suit Aus road. All that for almost 1k dearer...

There is no difference in spring rates. They are all 4kg front and rear for a R33 GTST/GTR & R32 GTST or 5kg front and 4kg rear for a R34 GTT/R32 GTR.

The difference is the valving as people have mentioned.

I've got the Oz Specs on my 32R and love them. They are softer in the spring rate compared to the Jap Spec which is great for Aussie roads but I'm not sure about the damping rates. They are ADR approved too so you can't get defected for them which is a plus in my book.

How would everyone describe the ride/handling trade off of the SS? I know in the FD RX7 they were great. Looking for R32 GTR specific answers if I can.

I have great suspension in my car, but driving daily on shitty Canberra roards, it is far too hard. Considering changing it.

I was under the impression that the AUS Spec TEIN suspension were redesigned for AUS roads, hence the suspension being a softer compared to the JDM version, due to some of the shitty roads we have..?

Or they could be the exact same as the JDM one but now Fulcrum Suspension are the authorised dealers for TEIN...

    • Hi, SteveL Thank you very much for your reply, you seem to be the only person on the net who has come up with a definitive answer for which I am grateful. The "Leak" was more by way of wet bubbles when the pedal was depressed hard by a buddy while trying to gey a decent pedal when bleeding the system having fitted the rebuilt BM50 back in the car, which now makes perfect sense. A bit of a shame having just rebuilt my BM50, I did not touch the proportioning valve side of things, the BM50 was leaking from the primary piston seal and fluid was running down the the Brake booster hence the need to rebuild, I had never noticed any fluid leaking from that hole previously it only started when I refitted it to the car. The brake lines in the photo are "Kunifer" which is a Copper/Nickel alloy brake pipe, but are only the ones I use to bench bleed Master cylinders, they are perfectly legal to use on vehicles here in the UK, however the lines on the car are PVF coated steel. Thanks again for clearing this up for me, a purchase of a new BMC appears to be on the cards, I have been looking at various options in case my BM50 was not repairable and have looked at the HFM BM57 which I understand is manufactured in Australia.  
    • Well the install is officially done. Filled with fluid and bled it today, but didn't get a chance to take it on a test drive. I'll throw some final pics of the lines and whatnot but you can definitely install a DMAX rack in an R33 with pretty minor mods. I think the only other thing I had to do that isn't documented here is grind a bit of the larger banjo fitting to get it to clear since the banjos are grouped much tighter on the DMAX rack. Also the dust boots from a R33 do not fit either fyi, so if you end up doing this install for whatever reason you'll need to grab those too. One caveat with buying the S15 dust boots however is that the clamps are too small to fit on the R33 inner tie rod since they're much thicker so keep the old clamps around. The boots also twist a bit when adjusting toe but it's not a big deal. No issues or leaks so far, steering feels good and it looks like there's a bit more lock now than I had before. Getting an alignment on Saturday so I'll see how it feels then but seems like it'll be good to go       
    • I don't get in here much anymore but I can help you with this.   The hole is a vent (air relief) for the brake proportioning valve, which is built into the master cylinder.    The bad news is that if brake fluid is leaking from that hole then it's getting past the proportioning valve seals.   The really bad news is that no spare parts are available for the proportioning valve either from Nissan or after market.     It's a bit of a PITA getting the proportioning valve out of the master cylinder body anyway but, fortunately, leaks from that area are rare in my experience. BTW, if those are copper (as such) brake lines you should get rid of them.    Bundy (steel) tube is a far better choice (and legal  in Australia - if that's where you are).
