Hi all,

Looking for some advice from those in the know - my R34 GTT has been in the shop for the last couple weeks for a few tasty upgrades but it seems that somehow during the process of getting it back up and running (possibly a fulty ECU - yet to confirm this?) we've lost compression on two cylinders... :3some:

The workshop is now going to rebuild the engine free of charge, and while it's out (and hence no labour cost) I am toying with the idea of chucking in some Tomei Poncams - thinking the Type B 260 duration.

The other mods are:

FMIC

3" Exhaust

Garrett GT3076 IW .82 exhaust low mount

High flowed 700cc injectors

Haltech P2000 ECU

Fuel Pump

Custom induction

Standard manifolds

Now, i've found two schools of thought on this - some say the cams will improve low end / midrange (which is what I want, to compensate for some of the lag from the bigger turbo) and others say that cams will ruin my bottom end and make the car a cop to drive until 4,500 rpm+

It is a daily driven street car so useable power is what i'm after (in the 250-300rwkw range)

Can anyone shed some light on what these cams will do for me?

Id leave the standard cams and spend the money on getting the ports massaged.

The Poncams are just an easy drop in that won't hold up the install - been without the car for three weeks already and as it is my daily it's getting very annoying...

Not interested in holding it up further with headwork at this stage - Just wondering what i could expect from the cams - essentially better or worse low end response?

I was advised long ago when toying with my RB25 to leave in factory cams, same as RB26's do from the same barn.

Results on dyno's look better with cams (when loaded up etc), but the difference is in actually driving - transition off/onto boost etc was tested to be better.

The cars going around the circuit were faster after going back to factory cams (from Poncams funnily enough).

People will argue either way about it and there is always for/against arguments for cams/selection and it's always a lengthy discussion.

It was good enough proof for me seeing the cars times do what they did.

Perhaps talk to your tuner and take his advice given the differences of opinion on such a topic
