Hi guys,

I'm looking at switching back to a C34 stagea and converting to LPG. (see my sig - the M35 is for sale. I'd convert it to gas but just dont have the funds...hence i'm looking at going back to a series 2 c34 and using the extra cash difference to pay for the LPG conversion)

Wondering if anyone can recommend a LPG conversion place that specialises in this sort of thing or at least would be competant (and willing)?

Looking at getting a SVI system if I can. Any idea of cost as well? i'm thinking somewhere around $4k, or $2500 after rebate.

2 place's Graham west Workshop is pro gas tuner he is south of the city and

Northern Auto Gas at elizabeth west im not sure if he tune's as well i wanted gas ages ago but didn't want to sacrifice boot space.

From memory northern gas have a xr6t making over 400 on gas

yup GWW on marion road had a mamoth xr6t result on gas.

Id go there but get a written quote from brett west and pay not 1cent more

- still stinging tho 4.5yrs later after being hugely OVERcharged for a 100,000km service where waterpump wasnt replaced (went 'poof' not long after)

Classic Performance Dyno at Hackham specialises in gas installations and tuneups.

He's got an old 70's Holden with a full V8 Infiniti conversion running straight gas making 190rwkw so he seems up to scratch with it all.

I'm taking my Subaru Outback there to get a gas conversion done soon.

Trouble is finding a good tuner for the LPG & getting the right setup.

Graham West comes to mind also when in reguards to LPG setups.

Very true - the detail is in the system and the installer/tuner. the right combination of these should give good results.

I should be clear, I'm not doing this for performance...it'll be a family wagon and for the most part will remain stock. I'm looking for a wagon that's going to be fairly low cost to own, and the choice came down to a LPG falcon (BF) or LPG stagea. I'm fully aware of the extra cost associated with an import (have owned 2 stageas now and 2 other imports before that) but in reality, other than repairs, the difference is pretty negligible - something like $10 a week or so. As far as repairs go, we've had a fantastic run with both stageas. Falcons aren't too bad these days reliability-wise but it can be a bit of a lottery...whereas stageas do seem to be more reliable on average.

The idea is, I can sell the M35, buy a C34, convert it go LPG (+ get $1500 rebate), and still have some money spare for other things. Its about lowering our costs without severely impacting our lifestyle, hence the preference for sticking with a stagea. We've owned a C34 before and reckon its worth doing, considering the fuel savings, and the fact that this is all possible using money from the sale of the M35.

Just wanted to make sure it is feasible as far as getting the work done professionally in SA, before I jump in and buy another stagea.

yup, had a v8 soarer with a mild tune showing some reasonable improvements too. the only downside is cost, straight gas injection cost a reasonable amount of coin.

You don't have to go straight gas conversion though, keeping petrol has it's benefits. The system I use on my work ute actually starts and runs on petrol then automatically flicks over to gas when the car is warm.

There are two main hassles people have with LPG and petrol both being operational.

One is that petrol runs richer on a cold start whereas gas doesn't need to. Gas uses a piggy back computer to intercept the signal the ecu gives to the fuel system to tell it how much fuel to run, hence it puts more in when the car's cold and overfuels when it doesn't need it. (This can also be overcome by running on petrol initially).

The other is that a lot of cut cost tuners just upload a rough tune, get it right at about 3000 rpm with the gas analyzer in the exhaust pipe and the rest is estimated which can result in poor idle, poor power and poor economy.

Both problems are not problems when the tune is done right.

you DONT want dual fuel unless you can find someone to tune it properly, otherwise it'll be inefficient on one fuel or the other (it is possible to get the best out of both). Straight LPG injection is the way to go IMO. Above mentioned workshops obviously know their stuff if they can apply it to most EFI vehicles with ease. I was looking into this a few years back on my RB20DET R31..........cost was too high back 4 years ago, no doubt more affordable now though

im saving for the diesel/gas conversion for the patrol, to make it run cleaner

I am looking at going dual fuel, and therefore I want a SVI system so that it has the separate piggyback ecu for the gas. This way it will have a different tune for petrol vs gas and should get the best results. The tune is important so I'm hoping wherever I choose to take it is good with tuning as well as competant with the installation.

Whilst I'm not chasing big power or anything, I would like it as close to the performance on petrol as possible, but will need to see how I go.

At the end of the day - I need to sell my M35 first...but good to know the options I have.

    • Hi guys, just after some guidance with an R34 sunroof that has stopped working correctly. It still opens and closes perfectly fine, but it no longer tilts/vents up or down. As a result, the rear of the glass now sags a bit as it drops down slightly in order to retract into the roof, but now it can't pop upwards into a flush position. I’ve probed the pins on the back of the switch connector with a multimeter and it seems like both switches (for open/close and tilt/vent) still work correctly. Any ideas on what it could be, or where I should even start in terms of diagnosing? I'm sure someone's had this issue before but I haven't been able to find anything online relating to this specific issue, most of the issues are with the seals leaking or the motor failing entirely. Thanks in advance!
    • Do you have some data like fuel pressure? It's really hard to say if you're still fighting a fuel system issue at this point. Could be something weird like the FPCM dipping out.
    • Yeah in that case, pulling the dent out. Event a very slight dent can create a lot of work filler-wise and there is a strong chance the panel won't be the factory shape when you are done (as the dent will result in a new high point created somewhere, then everything is brought up to that new high point... but the panel shouldn't be that high if that makes sense).  So you've filled and primed the panel and it is flat, why would you go back and remove the primer and add more filler? 
    • Something else I have been faffing with while the car was off the road is making the AC work. Assuming the car isn't at a thermal limit the idea of having AC while waiting in line to go on track sounds delightful. I have actually been lugging around the weight of the entire system since 2018 when the RB25NEO went in without it working at all.  The main reason was in the first few events before I got around to re-gassing it the rubber hose that runs under the manifold had the factory heat wrap/sleeve fail resulting in this: ~2 years ago I purchased a complete used R32 AC line set but when I finally went to install it the line i needed was different where the expansion section is I found a local place that was able to replace the rubber section and re-crimp. They also added some modern heat sleeve to the hose Tight fit but fingers crossed this is the last physical piece of the puzzle needed
    • the top black section is bonded to the silver section with some form of rubber. I assume to isolated NVH from the box
