This year's show is on November 6th and 7th. I hear a fair few Skyline owners have already entered - apologies if a thread has already been started on this.

I don't organise the show, but my team is asked to judge it each year. I've either entered or judged the show every year since the mid 80s - crap, I must be an old fart! :D Since the Skyline Club turns up in numbers each year - and it's great to see this level of support - I thought I'd jump on your forum and post a 'hello, and if you have any judging questions - fire away'. I'll try to log on every week or so, and answer any questions that people post.

Just to give everyone a bit of background, the Riverland show is judged according to the Street Machine Association of SA (SMASA) judging system, which is designed to cater for everything from pre 1948 rods to brand new cars. The judges all have a minimum of 20 years of experience, and they know what they're doing.

Initially, here's a few things to keep in mind

  • cars should be unlocked, with bonnet and boot open, and CLEAN. We reward hard work and thought (ie safety, cleanliness and attention to detail) as much as quality of finish. A closed bonnet gets zero points for the engine bay. An open but not so good engine bay at least gets a few points
  • An info board always helps, especially if the car is non standard (not so much engine internals, but body and trim)
  • any modifications should improve the car and make it safer - if you've got an early skyline with silly engine power and standard brakes and suspension, well..............
  • As mentioned, we reward safety. We like to see cars with fire extinguishers within reach of the drivers, and also first aid kits.

Lastly, I need to let everyone know that I am affiliated with the Nissan 300ZX Club, as I own one (I own other makes as well). For this reason, I do not select the overall Club Display trophy. I always discuss this with the show organisers. Nor do I judge any of the vehicles, unless one of my judges cannot attend the show. If I do judge, I can guarantee that my judging, as well as that of all the judges, is impartial and fair. All of the judges contribute their time and efforts on a voluntary basis - we are rev heads, petrol heads and Street Machiners, just like the entrants. We want a successful and fun show, just like the organisers and entrants.

Here's to a good show!

anyone out there want to join our display? Have had a few people from last year drop out due to personal commitments, so would be good to get some more people on board, esp anyone with jdm or aus r31s, r34, r35, stags, dr30's C10's etc

It'll be good to see the SAU group there again this year. We've (aus300zx) have only got a few cars on display this year, not as many as last year. Still should be fun, weather permitting :) Looking forward to visiting the skyline camp and checking out the cars. Hope you guys come over and check out our zeds as well. I'll have my new twin turbo on display, still needs a bit of body work though..:( Oh, and I promise that the aus300zx group will stay till 4pm this time :D :D :P

Yeah Im really looking forward to it. The exterior of my car remains unchanged from the last one (albeit with more stonechips :() but under the hood is another story. Not that many people will probably notice :)

Awesome

We'll be there, probably like you not as many cars, but it'll be good to see you guys and shoot the shit. My cars in the panelbeater atm, so if I make it I'll have some decent looking panels and paint but the interior will be my letdown this year

Stick around past 4pm, stay for the presentation, and sink some beers with us, and we'll represent the Nissan banner with pride

i know i m probably stupid but might be keen on just saturday with u guys just need to find out times and where it is...

most of the details are in the members only forum however :

Most of us will be staying at the Renmark hotel

Driving up Friday arvo, getting up for an early start/setup at the Soccer pitch in Renmark

The day generally finishes around 4-4:30, then there is a dinner event in the Hotel with awards and what not

Then on sunday there is a cruise around the riverland that ends with a sausage sizzle for lunch

let me know if you have any questions, as another r33 would be a great addition to our display

    • It would be different if the sealant hadn't started to peel up with gaps in the glue about ~6cm and bigger in some areas. I would much prefer not having to do the work take them off the car . However, the filler the owner put in the roof rack mount cavities has shrunk and begun to crack on the rail delete panels. I cant trust that to hold off moisture ingress especially where I live. Not only that but I have faded paint on as well as on either side of these panels, so they would need to come off to give the roofline a proper respray. My goal is to get in there and put a healthy amount of epoxy instead of panel filler/bog and potentially skin with carbon fiber. I have 2 spare rolls from an old motorcycle fairing project from a few years back and I think it'd be a nice touch on a black stag.  I've seen some threads where people replace their roof rack delete with a welded in sheet metal part. But has anyone re-worked the roof rails themselves? It seems like there is a lot of volume there to add in some threads and maybe a keyway for a quick(er) release roof rack system. Not afraid to mill something out if I have to. It would be cool to have a cross bar only setup. That way I can keep the sleek roofline that would accept a couple bolts to gain back that extra utility  3D print some snazzy covers to hide the threaded section to be thorough and keep things covered when not using the rack.
    • Probably not. A workshop grade scantool is my go to for proper Consult interrogation. Any workshop grade tool should do it. Just go to a workshop.
    • In my head it does make sense to be a fuel problem since that is what I touched when cleaning the system. When I was testing with the fuel pressure gauge, the pressure was constantly 2.5 bar with the FPR vacuum removed. When stalling, the pressure was going up to 3.0 bar (which is how it should be on ignition).
    • ECUtalk pages don't mention they support the ABS computer (consult port has more than one CAN), so you might just need a different scan tool. But, I would expect ABS is a different light to the brake warning/handbrake light, do you see an ABS light come on for a few seconds when you turn the key from ACC to IGN? But since you said: I'd have a look at the ABS sensors in the rear hubs to make sure they are not damaged, disconnected etc.
    • OK, if it idles at 1000+ with the AAC, its not an idle airflow problem. The cold start valve just gives extra air when the engine is cold, but you have enough air without it to idle at 1000. I think you are back to a fuel problem, sorry. Can you see the fuel pressure staying constant or does it drop as the revs drop to a stall?
