Hi guys,

i just wanted to know some of the best ways to maintain them with these mods below other than getting it serviced every 5000kms.

engine mods are:

-greedy boost controller (10psi)

-nismo full exhaust 3"

-k&n podfilter

-CENTRAL 20 ECU

-Greedy Front mount intercooler

Dont drive it like a dick and flog the crap out of it is the first step :( Just make sure when something needs done that you do it rather than leaving it to fix later.

only thing that i can see is the pod will need re oiling every 10k or watever, and its spelt greddy, not greedy :(

As for maintenance, oil/oil filter/air filter/spark plugs every 5000kms timing belt/tensions/seals every 100 000kms.. they're reliable cars that don't break with mild mods.

I've had 3x imports, I have sexy time with all of them and none of them have failed. This involved skin pad days, etc... no dramas!

you will easily get 10,000kms out of a set of copper plugs. should get 15,000kms out of them if your coilpacks aren't dead/dying. no point spending the extra money on irridiums. the set i pulled out of my 33 were dead after about 20,000kms.

oil change every 5,000km filter change +10,000km

copper spark plugs every 5,000 to 10,000 dont wast ur money with the platnem ones

why not thrash it like a dick? Nissans take them like a real car, unlike Australia cars which are not really Australian

as long as it's maintained, cooled properly, they love it

getting slightly off topic now, but aussie cars will take a thrashing just as well as nissans do. look at how many junked out old vn's, etc are still going with over 300,000kms on the clock and getting thrashed by young idiots who usually do very little in the way of maintenance.

on topic though, just treat it with respect like you would any other car that you cherish. they aren't some super spectacular motor (depsite how a lot of people on this forum make them out to be). just regular servicing, not thrashing the arse out of it then pulling up straight away without letting it cool down first, use decent quality parts, etc.

I had a commo-crap vn as my very first car, and with all cars I service them very well with decent oil/filters/etc.

I can tell you this, they're shet, car had around 150xxx km on the clock and during the time I had it, I went through:

- 2x power steering pumps

- 1x CAS

- 1x Alternator

- Shift Solenoids

They're crap cars man... then I bought a 1989 180SX, which was even older than my VN and to my surprise, nothing broke, nothing gave way, all electrics worked, and even though the KMs weren't genuine (like most imports).

Just remember to warm up, cool down, and regular maintenance and loads of sexy time haha :nyaanyaa:

I drive my dad's Corolla harder than I do with my Skyline since you need to floor the sh*t out of the Corolla to actually get it up to speed... otherwise you get overtaken by trucks & buses :)

Well I wasn't talking about reliability, I was talking about them taking a beating. But on reliability, you've owned one Holden and declare all Aussie cars to be shit? Come on...every manufacturer has their lemons. In contrast I owned a VR that only ever had a head gasket leak. Took it from 150,000-230,000km without another worry. But I wouldn't go declaring them all to be 100% sound based on my one experience! And atleast when shit goes in the Aussie cars they are much cheaper to replace than genuine items from import manufacturers.

i had an ea falcon (the worst of them) and in the 2 years i owned it i had the bonnet up less than the 18 months i owned my 33. only problem i ever had with the falcon was a head gasket and the leads needed replacing due to old age.

+1 to copper spark plugs being the way to go. had a mate recently whose iridiums lasted 3000km!

Copper may be a better conducter but if you want any form of longevity u need iridiums.

Coppers last aages (10000kms or wateva). But heat kills them. I actually had 2 fail, and shattered the ceramic part on 2 plugs after 1 track day (BCPR7ES's).

My mechanic also races at QR using iridiums, and they last for many meetings.

You may think they are the way to go, but we have actually seen the results.

there's plenty of testimonies in the spark plug thread going both ways. some people say their iridiums lasted just a few 10k, some have them last over 100k. A friend of mine has a soarer with a bit of extra boost, he spent many hundreds trying to find the source of a misfire which ended up being his spark plugs, he didn't check them cos they were only 3000km old. May have been a faulty plug, but there's still a fair few stories each way out there.

On a side note, Bosch platinums are less than $40 for 6. Some extra kms but without the big $$$

    • Hi. Sry iam not a mechanic and iam not at the car atm so i dont know 100% but they told they measure those and even try to change those. AFM they have two. Coils are new a they have my old one too. Plugs too. ECU...we have 25 NEO stock and Nistune 25 NEO.   But i dont know if any one those could be the problem and why/if/what can cause this, Only thing they did not check is fuel...but that walbro 255 is new(like 1,5 years)... That fuel pressure gauge idk...but i let them know Any suggestions?   EDIT: how can they know if it is like you say he ECU pull power when it reaches a specific boost level that is too high? Tha car has boost controler
    • Can you clarify what you mean by boost cut, do you mean it misfires both when under load (driving) and when stationary and out of gear? Or does the ECU pull power when it reaches a specific boost level that is too high (boost control issue)? Does it occur at idle with no throttle? When you say "the ECU is OK", what ECU is it and why do you think it is OK? Have you used the NEO ECU, and if so do you have a MAP sensor attached? Same for the AFM, why do you think it is OK? Do you have any way to put a fuel pressure gauge on it (even just a mechanical one between the fuel filter and fuel rail)?
    • Hi.. Just another problem. So maybe you can help. I(my mechanic) done swap from my RB20DE NEO to RB25DET NEO. Everything is OK but we have a boost cut. Coils/Plugs are ok...AFM is ok. ECU is ok. I have Walbro 255 but it "changed" sound few months ago(you can hear it ouside) you did not hear that when it was new(maybe faulty?) Sooo...what now? What can cause this boost cut? It is even when you standing still...
