Hey every1im a 21 yo female who just purchased a r34 gt(im a p plater) for $8,200 with rwc(vic) major service and new timing belt within a year. 6month rego

cant find any info on the net about the 'GT's' any links that could benifit me?

whats hicas in technical terms.... is it like tcs or yaw controll etc?

i figure that if you get a non turbo skyline the internals are the same as the turbo model so its going to be extra reliable....... yeah?

cheap mods(more 4 looks) links/ideas??????? thinkin of getting a r34 badge(yes i know u guys wouldknow the diff but 99 percent of people wont and their jaws will be dragging on the ground when they c a 21year old girl driving what they think is a r34 gtr skyline(having 4 doors probably wont help to encourage this assumption) haha

thoughts/ideas on what i should do/change would be much appreciated..;)

hicas is rear wheel steering . it only works above 80 kph . some people like some dont . a lot of poeple dont like it for the wrong reasons

dont put a gtr badge on it . everyone will give you shit like major shit

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HICAS

put the GTR badge on and you will be regarded as the biggest douche.. If you wanna sleep with 15 yr old boys, then yes get the badge cause that's the only people that will care about seeing your GTR badge..

The internal setup is different to the turbo model so no... however it will still be just as reliable if you don't thrash it

Do a search on your questions as there are mulitple threads on HICAS.. And r34 cosmetic mods.. ody kit etc.. 4 door bodykits are going to be limited on options with side skirts and rear bar though..

+1 for not putting a GTR badge on your car. it will just make you look stupid to other skyline owners and a large portion of other car enthusiasts who know that a GTR isn't in fact a 4 door non turbo.

as for motor internals, as said above, they are different to the turbo models.

for power they put out, it's generally around the 110kw at the wheels but will vary from car to car and dyno to dyno (they are 147kw at the flywheel). they are only really as fast as a 6 cylinder commodore or falcon (a touch slower if you have an auto).

Don't GTR badge it, people don't get away with that on coupes let alone 4 door cars...

Also non-turbos don't have the same internals as turbos, they are weaker. Although non-turbo vehicles are generally speaking more reliable because of less power and less complications due to not having a turbo.

Yeah dont but the gtr badge on!! lol what colour is it.

4 door you planning on starting a family xP sorry couldnt help myself

yeah not to many 4 door kits but then again depends on what mods and how much ur budget is.

Lol, I didn't really want a 4 door, not a huge fan of them but I don't mind heaps.

Nope not looking for 15 year old boys, and not looking to impress anyone with my car, it's my daily drive.

I saw the GTR bage on Ebay and thought I'd pose the question but wasn't super convinced about the idea. I was thinking that it wasn't even worth the $7 for the badge.

u should save all ur money until u are nearly off ur p's then drop an rb26 in there with gtr brakes and some nice coilovers. dont do much with the body kit. subtle is better imo esp with a sedan

thats what i would do if i were on my p's

Don't put the GT-R badge. People will laugh at you if you do.

Unless your car is an R34 GTt or GTv - Your car will not have HICAS.

Pics of your car will help - especially the front wheel area - we can then tell if you have a GTv model or not.

I'd imagine you are on your Ps. I wouldn't mod the car - the cost and the trouble from the cops isn't really worth it.

Probably a high flow panel filter, some light cosmetic mods such as clear indicators, window tint and nice wheels (not bling rims!)

I have the same car on my greens as well, and have to agree with everyone that GTR badges are for GTRs only. It could be even as worse as putting a GTR badge on a GTS-T which is up there as well. Just cruise around like me until your off the p's and then think of getting a GTR.

Then discover that they still haven't saved enough after 3 years and settle for a GTS-T anyway :(

Or they get impatient in the mean time and turbocharge their GT/GTS lol.

If your car is absolute stock I can suggest some things I did to mine :(

From cheap/easy to expensive:

-Change out those stupid orange front-side lights with white/blue ones and make the mains Xenon lights - easy

-K&N panel air filter - dead easy

-Tint windows - easy

-Full kit exhaust to make it sound like a real skyline - harder

-New 18" rims - harder (need to research)

Have fun! and pls.....don't tag it..keep it simple...it's a 4 door.

Hmm it says that it's a 25GT however is has the HICAS light on the dash, so perhaps it's a GTv, because it's def not a GT-T.

Fillup- Windows are already tinted in a very dark tint. I've already had the air box off and had a look what is has in there but it has a paper filter, I've blown it out for now but getting a K&N when I get paid. I have a set of rims in my shed off my BMW however I have to do a little more research as to whether Jap/Euro stud pattern is really interchangeable with no trouble, but the guy from the tyre service said it was.

Cool - If the car is a GTv that means it has all the turbo bits (brakes, HICAS, LSD, GTt suspension) minus the turbo

already have the cash hehe, just the wait.

hey again, do all skyliness have lsd's? probably wouldent look at putting a bodykit on it, its silver, going to get the outside detailed. would just a K and N panel filter suffice or is their somthing better?

has anyone changed the intake setup (b4 the airbox) and kept it looking fairly stock still? looks restrictive(sound and flowwise), any good catback exhaust systems on the market that wont cost me some human bodyparts?

so how do the interals differ between the gt-t and the gtv/gt? is there a lower compression ratio in the turbo varient? i imagine the ecu would have to be different, they would be both DOHC, spring rates on the valves?

can anyone send me links to any information/spec sheets specifically for the gtv/gt models?

o yeah and btw I do know a reasonable amount about cars....... just not Skylines so dont judge me if i ask a question that may SeeM stupid to you guys.

thanks in advance:)

yeah the turbo models have a lower compression. i don't know much about the strength of materials used in the internals though. and yes ecu is different. the gearbox is also stronger on the turbo model.

yes the k&n panel will be fine and i wouldn't bother too much about modding the intake piping. very little (if anything) to be gained from that unless you really start making big changes.

i also have a feeling that the bmx wheels won't fit on the skyline as i think they are the same stud pattern as a commodore and the skyline is the same as a falcon.

thanks mad082

will put pics up today so we can figure out if its a gt or a gtv.

going to ring around the wreckers looking for a silver stock rear spoiler unless any1 on here has 1 that they wanna sell?

    • The German place in Cabramatta was rock solid, fresh pretzel cooked to order back then. Then it went all quiet, after all the poker machines were removed, then I believe it closed for good. I did drive past the other week and noticed outdoor lighting a big screen, but no idea what is there now.
    • Yeah I suspect even if you hold airmass per cycle/cylinder constant if you get too far away from stock you're still going to have problems running the factory tune within the bounds of the factory load scale. Cams, different displacement/rod ratio, etc. I'm just lucky that the GTIII-SS with wastegate boost + CA compliance cats is pretty much equivalent to stock turbos. When I have actual space I can finally get it tuned and modify the fuel system for flex fuel to 100% handle any detonation concerns when cranking the boost to whatever those dinky turbos can put out.
    • I would say no, why, because my daughter, who also lives in Goulburn, hasn't recommended us going there Pity, as we miss all the German joints around in Sydney, actually, the restaurants are the only thing I really miss about Sydney, and a special mention to Ishibanboshi at Bondi Junction, their Kara-age Don is heart cloggingly deliciousness (always added a special boiled egg...or 2) 😋
    • Does that German restaurant still exist in the old place out the NW end of Goulburn? When I say "out the NW end of"...I am really being vague. It was 1997 when I was last there, and the only point of reference I can recall is that it was on the opposite side of the main drag from the big merino. And when I say "opposite side of the main drag", I don't mean "on the main drag". It was either a couple of streets back from there, or might have even been out in the sticks a bit further. Was an old farm building or mill or somesuch. And when I say "the big merino" I might actually be thinking of a completely different part of town, because I just looked on maps and the big bugger is not where I remembered him to be! The food was good, consisting largely of various German mystery-meat sausage/loaf things and kartofflen.
    • So while the second sentence is completely correct and the whole point of the conversation, the first sentence bears consideration. If this bloke is just hoping to throw big turbos on and drive it around, because there are no helpful facilities at all in his tropical paradise** then he likely has zero chance of even knowing what the TP is on the last column in the stock maps, let alone know whether the ECU is operating anywhere near it or past it. So the point is very very moot. And, per what I said before, at stock boost on those turbos, you may well be off the end of the map. **I'm just back from Vanuatu, so I know exactly what small Pacific nations can be like wrt paradise without requisite facilities. But it's not even that simple. I put a high flow on my car and had to drive it around without a proper tune because of the lack of opportunity*** to put the bigger AFM and injectors into it to allow it to be tuned. I had to turn the boost down to less than I had before, and back off the boost controller's ramp, because it was exploring parts of the map that it didn't drive in before, and really couldn't access for tuning on the dyno either, and so was pinging. It was still well within the last column, because when I first**** set up the Nistune on the Neo I rescaled all axes of the maps to give some more space to explore. ***Family dyno was broken ****This was 13 years ago, and the TIM thing wasn't a thing then and so TP would definitely grow when pushing past the stock tune's limits.
