This was something I was considering for a long while. Things start to get rough at the 250 mark, braking distances multiply and its hard to tell the difference once your above 200. I advise caution... To the wind.

I dare say 3.9s out of the auto S13 might not cut the mustard. I am fairly sure you can get a touch under 3.7s in an S14 5MT, should be able to swap the crown and pinion over to our setups and retain our half shafts.

Me + this thread = epic lulz.

Hmm does the PFC controller really show speeds that high?

I remember when i went to the drags, i pulled a 112mph trap speed, but kept my foot buried for a bit afterwards, so the needle was well past 180, and the PFC only said a max of 179 :)

If someone organises a top speed run and it's not on salt flats (corrosion), I'm in.

You mean you want someone to do it with or your expecting someone to set this up legally? LOL

Either way Ill be in for both in due time.

Standing mile sounds like it would be a great fun event alright.

As was already said... R34 getrag and diff is the go. It will hold up to 800hp in a high speed sort of environment so long as your not doing big launches with semi slicks.

Meanwhile... on the autobarns in germany.

Done 312km/h... over 8k. R32GTR with 400rwkw and a dog box. Got there pretty quick!

Steve,

I was speaking to a few friends about doing this as an event, like the standing mile they have in the states.

We should get together and suss out some particulars.

I attended quite a few standing mile events in Florida over the last few years... There are allways a HUGE variety of cars and bikes turn up. I helped out on a record breaking 252+mph TT GT40 with nitrous.

The events are great!

It's a very easy going event, no one gets tooooo serious. It's just good fun. It's relativly easy on the vehicles, there's no crazy outlay for brakes or 16 pairs of tyres and it's technical enough to keep it interesting.

I'd like to see a 'cannonball run' standing mile event out in central Aus.

Cheers

Justin

i'm not sure if i still have it, but i used to have a motor magazine where they were at avalon airport or whatever it's called in victoria and they were testing out the top speed of a few cars. a lambo got to around 300kmh. they had some other exotics arranged but the person who was supposed to organise them wasn't able to deliver but they did have a 350kw r33 gtr turn up. test driver got it to close to 300kmh showing the car a small amount of mechanical sympathy. then the owner got in and managed to crack 300kmh.

if doing this on a public road you would want to make sure that the road is in very good condition and nice and smooth. bumps that feel like nothing at 100kmh will feel a lot bigger at 3 times that speed.

*wanders off to look through magazines for the article.

epic win I don't come read this for a few days and it's all about cops and robbers :D

hypothetically, as I'm a scientist :) *adjust labs coat* I may have some lovely nice stretches of smooth road far enough out of the way to be able to test top end speeds. Plus I just have to do it cuz this little skyline is just gunna!

yeh but getrag boxes cost a little too much for may taste (8k-10k correct?) and it's to be a 'streetable' car <-- under the impression getrag boxes are race application. Unless I can sell my current box (under 100k on it) for a decent amount but I'd need to retain the housing all the same...

but yesh, taller ratio sounds like the go, but I always wonder getting a s/h taller ratio diff is always suspect, as ya never know what sort of life it had before hand.

    • Don't even try to run it on the stock ECU if you're going to have the boost controller bring boost above ~10 psi. I've already told you that. If you use the Nistune ECU, you will need to CAREFULLY read the available documentation for Neo tuning, and read some threads on the Nistune forums, to discover the various things you have to do to prevent the ECU from going bananas when the boost is too high. The is a table associated with th boost sensor that must be modified to prevent it from shitting the bed. This is just one of the things that you will need to do to the tune in Nistune, because the Neo turbo ECU will be expecting to see a number of things (such as the TCS) that are not there, and you have to block the DTCs on those. It is totally not surprising to me that you are having the problems that you are, but the solutions to these problems have been known for >15 years. So just get it done.
    • Hi. Sry iam not a mechanic and iam not at the car atm so i dont know 100% but they told they measure those and even try to change those. AFM they have two. Coils are new a they have my old one too. Plugs too. ECU...we have 25 NEO stock and Nistune 25 NEO.   But i dont know if any one those could be the problem and why/if/what can cause this, Only thing they did not check is fuel...but that walbro 255 is new(like 1,5 years)... That fuel pressure gauge idk...but i let them know Any suggestions?   EDIT: how can they know if it is like you say he ECU pull power when it reaches a specific boost level that is too high? Tha car has boost controler
    • Can you clarify what you mean by boost cut, do you mean it misfires both when under load (driving) and when stationary and out of gear? Or does the ECU pull power when it reaches a specific boost level that is too high (boost control issue)? Does it occur at idle with no throttle? When you say "the ECU is OK", what ECU is it and why do you think it is OK? Have you used the NEO ECU, and if so do you have a MAP sensor attached? Same for the AFM, why do you think it is OK? Do you have any way to put a fuel pressure gauge on it (even just a mechanical one between the fuel filter and fuel rail)?
