hello all,i have owned R33 RB25DE,so for sure i am going to boost it,i know how to do it and have experience with boosted NA,but its my first time with RB's,all mechanical stuff for me are clear,but need an advice for engine management choise.I have Greddy emanage blue with Greddy boost sensor on my table,does anybody have some experience with it on RB25?should i use it with DE ecu or do i have to get DET ecu anyway?ofcourse i am going for stock boost on high compresion,big FMIC,custom 2.5" intercooler piping,t3/t4 turbo,greddy intake manifold,440cc injectors(how stock ECU reacts to bigger injectors?should i get DET injectors instead?).So again,what are my best options for the moment what i have?i will have standalone in near future,but want to start it with what i have,thanks in advance for anything

If you use a Greddy intake manifold on stock boost it wouldn't make as much power as it would when using the stock intake manifold. The runners are to short on the Greddy manifold and you need to run around 18PSI+ to make a gain as it would be very laggy. Also running stock boost on a 'BIG' FMIC will be worse for you even if you used a stock intake manifold off a DET.
i wouldn't bother, just get a stock intake manifold and intercooler, or a small FMIC.

Stock RB25DE ECU will stall the engine when under boost and i dont know if they are compatible with a Emanage. A NISTUNE would be a lot better, You need to get the Nistune RB20DET ECU for a RB25DE series 1 engine or a Z32 ECU for a RB25DE series 2 engine. Again use stock injectors off RB25DET if you make 300HP+ which you wont, then upgrade to the 555CC injectors nismo make

manifold i can use or not,thats the option,cause i have it lieing in my garage aswell,my frien had it,big FMIC i mean too hard maby,its 2.5"connections,75mm fat,550mmx300mm core,so its middle big FMIC,its really not too big,i use such one for other NA boosting,just said big,depending on how small is stock ones.So if we dont look at all mechanic stuff,still my question is,can i control fueling with DE ecu and Blue emanage?maby somebody done it?i know that standalone is the best,but for now,its stupid for me to waist money on Nistune or other stock ecus,then i will have to put it for sale,cause i am 100% sure,that i will make standalone,just thought,that i can use for begining what i have,we used Blue emanage on NA boosted Honda before,it was NA Vtec,so it was runing very well with it,even,that Greddy emanage blue has Vtec control,so we could control it aswell,but dont have experience with RB's att all.My friend has RB25DET ecu,but its from R32,so it doesnt have VCT control.

ok,so it seems,that my friends ecu is from R33 RB25DET,so it would fit me very well and it would be good untill i go with standalone,just have one question-i know that its plug and play,but do i need to hook up missing wires,like boost control solenoid and other one,that i dont remember,can somebody clear me for this?what exact wires are missing?cause i think that i will go with standart DET turbo for now,so it will be installed as it was on det,so i want to connect boost solenoid aswell,i cant see what else is missing in my loom,cause i dont have NA ecu pinouts,just DET.thanks

I would never know if the NA ecu would work so lucky you have a DET ecu. Yeah i wouldnt go any bigger than that intercooler.
Not to much is missing. You just need to buy a stand alone boost controller.
greddy profec is the best value. You could use a Non turbo ECU if you wanted to because the boost controller is stand alone

does anyone have any tips on how to get the size 22mm bolt off that blocks the water return on the NA 25 block.... the head of the bolt is short and the block casting is just in the way so a socket fouls on the block and doesnt reach the bolt head on

gonna go shopping for some thin sockets tomorrow..... :closedeyes:

hey everyone

I'm hoping to get some advice or insight please.

My brother in-law and I have recently tried to do a turbo conversion on a R34 GT which has been ongoing over about 3 months.

We've tried to start it up recently, and it won't crank over.

The fuel pump (new walbro pump) primes, we have spark and I've put a screwdriver to the injectors to listen for pulse...everything seems 'okay' but it just won't fire over.

I've tried getting it a bit of a sniff with some brake cleaner and it does nothing either.

The ECU is coming back with an error 46

Is there anything I'm overlooking or neglecting? Any help or insight would be appreciated.

Im looking at doing the same kind of thing, but I can't decide if I want to buy a neo rb25det awd engine and swap it. Or turbo the neo de I have... I have a gt-4 2 Door manual 34. Iv been offed a stagea awd neo25det $2400... Would it be a straight swap? Plug n play? And I have a power fc and hand controler for a 34 gtt. In its box sitting around.

has anyone drilled into the stock turbo oil feed section onto the block before....... looks like you need a long drill ?

Iv read this from the start, easy way out of not drilling it to get a oilcooler and run the oil feed into that then into the oil filer lines and back.... Something like that, hope that helps.

After owning me coupe 34 Gt4 for 9 year n/a iv decide to turbo it. And that oil cooler idea looks like the go

Still getting people inboxing/PM'ing me with questions about reliability. Unopened NA eninge has now had a turbo for 5+ years and 100,000kms. ~240rwkw for 2+ years on 16 psi. 8k limiter. 0 issues. So long as your supporting mods, tune and maintenance are up to scratch, and the engine is healthy initially you shouldn't have issues.

can anyone shed a bit more light on the water/oil feeds and returns please?

just wondering what oil line you tapped into near the filter? I was assuming you meant the stock oil cooler block thing where the oil filter screws on but my rb25deNEO doesn't have one. was considering using an aftermarket oil cooler as mentioned above but trying to get away without using one.

Also where do you return the water line back into? the other heater hose?

I returned the water via the stock fitting into the block (just had a blanking bolt in there, but was actually drilled/tapped right through already). For the oil return I tee'd into the head oil drain.

As for reliability, turbo went on in mid-2009, still going strong :) Haven't actually ever had it on the dyno, so no idea what power figures it's putting out, but sees 10PSI all day long without an issue (running an eManage Gold piggyback). That said, it doesn't actually get driven much these days, so it's only done a little under 50,000kms in that time, and very little track work.

I'm turboing my 34 sedan auto, I'm stuck on what ecu to use, I was given an gtt auto ecu for free. My questions are will the gtt ecu work fine with the control of the auto tiptronic box and also will the stock map thats on the gtt ecu be okay to run for a little while untill i have the time to take it to the tuners ? it's obviously an neo na engine and i'll be using 33 gtst stock turbo and 34 gtt injectors.

    • As discussed in the previous post, the bushes in the 110 needed replacing. I took this opportunity to replace the castor bushes, the front lower control arm, lower the car and get the alignment dialled in with new tyres. I took it down to Alignment Motorsports on the GC to get this work done and also get more out of the Shockworks as I felt like I wasn't getting the full use out of them.  To cut a very long story short, it ended up being the case the passenger side castor arm wouldn't accept the brand new bush as the sleeve had worn badly enough to the point you could push the new bush in by hand and completely through. Trying a pair of TRD bushes didn't fix the issue either (I had originally gone with Hardrace bushes). We needed to urgently source another castor arm, and thankfully this was sourced and the guys at the shop worked on my car until 7pm on a Saturday to get everything done. The car rides a lot nicer now with the suspension dialled in properly. Lowered the car a little as well to suit the lower profile front tyres, and just bring the car down generally. Eternally thankful for the guys down at the shop to get the car sorted, we both pulled big favours from our contacts to get it done on the Saturday.  Also plugged in the new Stedi foglights into the S15, and even from a quick test in the garage I'm keen to see how they look out on the road. I had some concerns about the length of the LED body and whether it'd fit in the foglight housing but it's fine.  I've got a small window coming up next month where I'll likely get a little paint work done on the 110 to remove the rear wing, add a boot wing and roof wing, get the side skirt fixed up and colour match the little panel on the tail lights so that I can install some badges that I've kept in storage. I'm also tempted to put in a new pair of headlights on the 110.  Until then, here's some more pictures from Easter this year. 
    • I would put a fuel pressure gauge between the filter and the fuel rail, see if it's maintaining good fuel pressure at idle going up to the point when it stalls. Do you see any strange behavior in commanded fuel leading up to the point when it stalls? You might have to start going through the service manual and doing a long list of sensor tests if it's not the fuel system for whatever reason.
    • Hi,  Just joined the forum so I could share my "fix" of this problem. Might be of use to someone. Had the same hunting at idle issue on my V36 with VQ35HR engine after swapping the engine because the original one got overheated.  While changing the engine I made the mistake of cleaning the throttle bodies and tried all the tricks i could find to do a throttle relearn with no luck. Gave in and took it to a shop and they couldn't sort it. Then took it to my local Nissan dealership and they couldn't get it to idle properly. They said I'd need to replace the throttle bodies and the ecu probably costing more than the car is worth. So I had the idea of replacing the carbon I cleaned out with a thin layer of super glue and it's back to normal idle now. Bit rough but saved the car from the wreckers 🤣
    • After my last update, I went ahead with cleaning and restoring the entire fuel system. This included removing the tank and cleaning it with the Beyond Balistics solution, power washing it multiple times, drying it thoroughly, rinsing with IPA, drying again with heat gun and compressed air. Also, cleaning out the lines, fuel rail, and replacing the fuel pump with an OEM-style one. During the cleaning process, I replaced several hoses - including the breather hose on the fuel tank, which turned out to be the cause of the earlier fuel leak. This is what the old fuel filter looked like: Fuel tank before cleaning: Dirty Fuel Tank.mp4   Fuel tank after cleaning (some staining remains): Clean Fuel Tank.mp4 Both the OEM 270cc and new DeatschWerks 550cc injectors were cleaned professionally by a shop. Before reassembling everything, I tested the fuel flow by running the pump output into a container at the fuel filter location - flow looked good. I then fitted the new fuel filter and reassembled the rest of the system. Fuel Flow Test.mp4 Test 1 - 550cc injectors Ran the new fuel pump with its supplied diagonal strainer (different from OEM’s flat strainer) and my 550cc injectors using the same resized-injector map I had successfully used before. At first, it idled roughly and stalled when I applied throttle. Checked the spark plugs and found that they were fouled with carbon (likely from the earlier overly rich running when the injectors were clogged). After cleaning the plugs, the car started fine. However, it would only idle for 30–60 seconds before stalling, and while driving it would feel like a “fuel cut” after a few seconds - though it wouldn’t fully stall. Test 2 – Strainer swap Suspecting the diagonal strainer might not be reaching the tank bottom, I swapped it for the original flat strainer and filled the tank with ~45L of fuel. The issue persisted exactly the same. Test 3 – OEM injectors To eliminate tuning variables, I reinstalled the OEM 270cc injectors and reverted to the original map. Cleaned the spark plugs again just in-case. The stalling and “fuel cut” still remained.   At this stage, I suspect an intermittent power or connection fault at the fuel pump hanger, caused during the cleaning process. This has led me to look into getting Frenchy’s fuel hanger and replacing the unit entirely. TL;DR: Cleaned and restored the fuel system (tank, lines, rail, pump). Tested 550cc injectors with the same resized-injector map as before, but the car stalls at idle and experiences what feels like “fuel cut” after a few seconds of driving. Swapped back to OEM injectors with original map to rule out tuning, but the issue persists. Now suspecting an intermittent power or connection fault at the fuel pump hanger, possibly cause by the cleaning process.
