Hey Guys,

Just had the suspenioned overhauled in the r34 and looking for some sticky tyres! Car is making close to 500hp and from what i can see these are my options. any comments would be good!

Advan AD08

Nitto NT05

kumho ecsta ku36

ive also looked into semi slicks/drag radials but dont know much about what makes a good street semi slick/drag radial. Any advice would be great!

Cars one and only purpose is to go fast in a straight line.

looks like that is the best choice there jez, but im running 19s and it looks like the ET street II only goes up to a 18"

i know ive handicapped myself a bit with a 19" but any chance you know any 19" drag radials?

Any drag radial will have a higher profile than a street tyre, Its an inherent part of their design

A 19 inch drag tyre would look like a 4wd wheel. small rim and big rubber.

You would be better served by dropping to a 17 or even a 16 inch rim if drag radials are your choice. becuase of the tyre diameter they will still fill out your guards like a low profile street 19.

bang for buck the KU36's are awesome

NT05's are just amazing for street tyres (I run them on all 4's with 435rwhp) but expensive

but for drag, go a drag radial unless the car sees other use aswell

only buy Mickey T's if you dont do any cornering stuff. Mickey thompsons are designed to have a super soft sidewall to obviously help hook up on launches. this is good for straight line stuff but it compromises vehicle stability and you start doing serious cornering stuff.

ku36's are shit at that power level, definately go the nittos. i just got a pair for the rear end of my r34 which will have around 600hp when finished and what the boss at tyrepower in hawthorn reckons will be the best for what i need.

ill be running the 36's on the front though as they are great for cornering and steering but not good enough to take power thru the rears.

my mate runs ku36's on his s14 with 200rwkw and i reckon they r at there limits with that. u get what u pay for .....

The KU's tread wear is more than RE001's 255's (read, they are softer, grippier)

So if RE001's are fine in my car with 270rwkw, barely breaks traction at all, then your friend needs larger tyres or some suspension/diff attention.

As is the problem with those types of examples, sometimes setups are fully correct and hence the tyres stand no chance regardless

Joey i have been tossing up between the NT05 and the NT05R which is the drag radial version. being a drag radial i know a bit of what im getting myself into but im just worried the standard NT05s wont hold the power im making. do your NT05s break traction at all? what profile are you running?

Although i dont do any cornering (drift/track) it does get driven around on weekends and on the occasional cruise. technically it takes normal street corners and bends but i wouldnt be pushing anything. Do you see the MT ET Steets II causing me hassles in this situation?

It's just pure logic really and the limitations.

What gives the advantage is the sidewall. On a 19, you have less than the 17, or 16.

The tyre has to be ever softer again to even come close to matching the grip levels (if at all) & last less longer again.

If you plan to run MT ET's or similar you'll be on a 17 (not 18s) at the most to be honest as Noel said.

Can't say I've ever seen a RWD car run a 10 sec pass with 19's on it :)

yea forget the 19's man, buy some 16inch wheels put some nice drag tyres on them, throw em in the boot and swap em at the track, if u just want a decent tyre for a 19, just buy street legal semi, KU36, 595RSR they cheap and good enough, my car drives like its on rails since i straped my RSR's on

buddy im building my bottom end to handle 1000hp + so i think that my choice in buying nitto parts over the cp is a good one.

however this thread is a bout tyres if u have a problem with something i have said then pm me

treadwear of only 60! awesome tyre thats for sure, grippy, very grippy

ku36 treadwear is 160 to compare against....

edit: stag is putting out 335hp @ wheels, Im guessing thats close to 400hp at the engine prior to drivetrain loss

i had the pirellis on my 19 inch vs kf on my r34 and they were grippy, just a flamin mongrel to drive with, really heavy in the front end steering feel. (due to the fact there 19's not the tyres)

I do it for a living, and yeah someone sold him good and proper whether he likes it or not.

Anyway, why hasnt anyone mentioned RE55's in this thread? If dry traction is all the OP wants, they're great! Not a drag radial like the ET's, they're still expensive compared to KU36's etc but they're all sorts of grippy once warmed up. Life span is another story though

    • Order for the 2025 model R35 GT-R were accepted from 3rd March and 26th August the last order rolled off the production line at the Tochigi plant. Concerning the R35 GT-R replacement, current Nissan CEO Ivan Espinosa said "Nothing has been decided about the GT-R at this time, but we are well aware that everyone is waiting. The GT-R will evolve and reappear in the future. Please be patient until that day comes." Nissan has a lot of issues with management and finances so take Espinosa's words with a big grain of salt. From what discussions I've had and read about here in Japan, not a lot of people are confident about Nissan's future, let alone the next GT-R. 
    • Thanks. We getting some parts along too so he will be solving the speed issue like next week so i will let you know what he came up with.   
    • 21 is explicitly the coils detected as the issue. Is it guaranteed the actual issue? No. Just the ECU thinks it is. When you say rattling, describe it better, get an audio clip as best you can if possible.
    • Yea got me coppers. Bad news is I just put them in and the car still has the light and shakes. I also noticed I hear like rattling coming from the exhaust piping right under me. Does 21 also have a possibility of being O2 sensors?   So, coil packs are good, the harness is good, the MAF is working, and obviously the spark plugs just replaced and working.
    • Make sure you drop the GTT base tune back in, and set your injectors again, this will remove anything playing up with it you may have removed. Possibly lean there as it's normally a fast transient going THROUGH atmospheric pressure, and a turbo motor would then quickly go richer as boost builds. The only worry you MIGHT have is ignition timing, as the DE is higher compression than the DET from memory. But again, you're not in boost, so the DE motor will be a lot more forgiving at atmospheric.   Get Murray, Kinkstahs, and Johnny's input on tuning haltechs, those guys have played with tuning enough in the past to be able to help now you're past the trouble shooting stage of the MAP issue
