Custom Glass Carbon Fibre R33 Projector Headlights Group Buy!

UPDATE

The design of the headlights is going well, will have an update about this in more detail soon.

Also we need some ideas on how people want to do these LED's in the corner. SPINTO will also give some ideas and we can all vote on what we think shall be the best option.

PM-R33, will the end result look something like the following??

I'm just trying to gauge things so i can see if this is something i'd go with.

I'm imaging the the black around the projector would be moulded/vacuum formed not flush up against the glass... like as follows (different car obviously)...

that about right??

I am keen on the glass replacement as the series 3 R33 lights looks stunning. I can't quite justify a grand for new lights though.

Awesome idea, hope it all works out well.

Nothing at the moment, still awaiting the next update from SPINTO.

Currently the main thing we are trying to focus on is what to do design wise with the LED side parkers/indicators.

I have been trying to do some photoshops but nothing has really hit the nail on the head yet.

If some of you guys had some input on design for this, that would be great!

Are you finding it hard to turn the existing park light part of the headlight into an LED cluster or something? put up some of your photoshops and we can try and help :)

Yeah mainly what to actually do about the layout of the LED's. In what shape, what kind of LED's, how many etc.

I keep looking at other car manufacturers LED layouts (mainly tail lights since not many do a front LED setup).

I think the key thing is something simple that doesn't draw away attention from the focal point of the headlight which would be the low beam projector.

In a way I think the best thing is to have them looking very inconspicous when they are turned off (barely being able to see them) but when they light up to have a nice pattern/shape.

I dunno, just having a hard time thinking of what to do...

can there be a diffuser over the indicator/parker LEDs so that you only see them when they are active??

I believe that if you use LED's they should be inconspicuous maybe by using a diffuser as said a couple of posts above . If I go for this complete set up I would not be wanting to attract the wrong sort of attention. Even if we kept the standard globes there would still have to be some type of diffuser as per the standard lens. Could that be done by sand blasting the lens in that area.

I agree, I definetely don't want these headlights standing out. I want them to be highly detailed when looked at up close, but from a distance not to look at out of place and to just look factory with an agressive dark look to them.

The carbon fibre backing will give that dark aggressive look so I don't want the LED's to stand out from that when turned off at all.

I don't think we should touch the glass lens at all since that would make it easier to damage something and might bump up costs if more care is needed.

So far the best inspiration with the LED's that I have had is from the Ferrari 458 Italia.

Maybe something similar and simple is all we need.

Say around 4 rows of LED's going around the curve of the edge of the headlight:

oooooo

oooo

oooo

oooooo

how about the same principle as the new audi tail lights and just go around the perimeter of the parker area

i tried to ascii it but i cant remember the code for a hard space....

So just quickly editing the old picture I did in paint, you mean something like this:

(Obviously the LED's wouldn't be white like that)

in for series 1 set

yea, they look pretty good. So you could go a dual HID setup if you were running the mod for low beams on when high beams are on? That way it wouldn't matter if the high beams take awhile to come on because you would always have low beams... I understand this makes the wiring a little more bulky because you need to run 2 ballasts, but might be worth it for the extra light output...

Also in regard to pricing i reckon just break it down to options. Makes it easier for the company to market the product and caters to people's different needs. The guys that want angel eye's or whatever may be able to pay extra for that.

You would always have to provide your own, whether it be the ones off your car or ebay some..

so glass lens replacement might be x dollars

carbon fibre bulb surround x dollars (next level of options will be led's as parkers, one or two hid housing's etc )

Another option/idea to keep costs down is maybe they can just modify the existing plastic housing to take hid's

Just letting you know I'm +1 for this if the price is okay.

The prices you're estimating.. is that for a set of headlights?

    • Does it also misfire equally when revving?   Josh is very correct in what you should do. The coilpack harness wiring loom itself is a known problem due to its age and the number of heat cycles it has gone through. Throwing parts at a vehicle to diagnose the issue isn't a smart or good way to do it. Secondly, you may have a bad coil pack, you pop replacements in, they fix that issue, but messing with the harness breaks it, so the issue persists. So now you think "well it wasn't the coil packs" and have to continue chasing your tail, potentially swapping back in your shit coil packs and returning the good ones (yes, I've seen people do this because 'it wasn't the problem' and they want to save money). And suddenly, you've got two issues with the same symptoms...   Diagnose, don't use the spare parts shotgun.
