Ahh true true....

I'd prolly connect it to my phone :S

In and around the capital cities that should be fine, but when you're driving out of the main cities you'll struggle for bandwidth/signal if you't not with on Telstra (in my experience at least) - and then you'll have no maps domokun.gif

It looks good. I like that aux and power cables are hidden and you cannot really see any wiring...

I'm looking at doing the same and was leaning towards 7 ''iMito or Optus Tab. I probably will reconsider tha.... built in GPS , 18cm H and hidden wiring made your unit the best option...

Well done!!

pics attached :)

Has GPS, bluetooth, WIFI etc.

Loving it. Angry Birds, Internet, Divx, SatNAV, Gsensor (0-100 times etc) Anything Android can do so can this tablet.

Running headphone to the Line IN on the back of the stereo. Works a treat.

newest version of google maps does route caching - you tell it where you want to go while you have reception, it caches all the route data for you so you can travel without the need for more data. i presume it falls over if you need to re-route.

ymmv, but i've never had issues with google maps using too much bandwidth and i'm on three...

Hmm, weird. When I bought my M35 from Sydney and relied solely on my HTC Desire's google maps to bring me back to melbourne. All the way down I don't recall losing GPS reception at all and I'm with Three which probably roams onto Telstra.... The phone uses an A-GPS..

EDIT: Doh too slow...cha cha answered it for me :pirate:.

I definitely had issues with signal when doing Adelaide -> Falls Creek last year; I used my N96 for GPS (it does/did NTSC video out to my in car screen worship.gif) with offline maps. A friend who tours with a band also suggested not relying on phones for GPS as the maps fall over in the middle of nowhere (Where you often need it most). Im with Three also, I may just be overly cautious! I dislike getting lost :P

Im thinking my next phone just needs to be able to do NTSC video out via svideo and that should keep me happy for a bit longer - my current android phone (Motorola Milestone) lacks this feature :(

for the record, the samsung galaxy s will do it (NTSC) via the nokia 3.5mm -> 3x RCA cable, but the output isn't perfect - although i've heard of others getting perfect results, my phone has a pretty noticeable hum going on when video out is enabled so the RCA audio quality is very, very poor. regular audio (ie, 3.5mm with the tv-out option switched off) sounds great though.

the next round of phones (like the sgs 2) will come with hdmi outputs via microusb so my plan is to grab one of them and downgrade the output to composite before i plug it into my tuner...

as for google maps, i haven't had those sort of problems since the last big update a few months ago, but yes, it was very frustrating. i'm more annoyed when it makes up routes or sends you in loops for no reason though... i think you certainly get what you pay for, but in my case the price is right.

I have a work phone with 3.

I think they are terrible considering I can't get service in my house sometimes and I am in the middle of Adelaide suburbia, 15km from the CBD!

I didn't know GPS was free, cheers for that. I would probably go the offline route as I find the phone unreliable, $50 is pretty cheap and discounted prices from google cough :whistling: may be even cheaper.

Good thread, lots of food for thought so far.

Just got myself a Optus Tab, for $199 with 3Gb allowance it was hard to not buy it... Loving it, has GPS, with Beta Nav software, WiFi and 3G connections. Got it working with my work and personal e-mail in about 5 minutes. Daughter has her wiggles videos on it, and loves playing Angry Birds (or naughty cops as she calls it). It even has a radio on it and I could connect it into the car for music etc using the AUX inputs on the PA-15.

Looks like I can get a headrest bracket for her on the bay so she can use it as a DVD for long journeys and battery is way better than any portable DVD I have seen so far..

Just read the optus terms for the Tab. Data in 10mb increments and has to be used in 3 months ... :(

  • 2 months later...

picked up an Optus Mytab since they're selling them for $99 for the last week or two.

Going to mount it up front using this:

Going to run Torque on it.

Question is...will the Scantool http://www.scantool....-bluetooth.html be compatible with our car? It claims to be compatible with all makes from 96-present...

going by this: https://www.scantool.net/support/index.php?_m=knowledgebase&_a=viewarticle&kbarticleid=3&nav=0 can anyone tell me whether our OBD2 ports will work with this tool?

Edited by ironpaw

I doubt it will work, I have tried most of the obd2 software and couldn't get any of them to communicate.

Ah well, its only $150 and they provide 90 days money back guarantee...gonna try it.

They claim it does JOBD...I'll see if it works...

Does our car use a straight or right angle connector?

Does our car use a straight or right angle connector?

I think it's straight, but just pop it out & have a look . It'll take longer to open the car door than it will to drop out the connector from under your steering wheel  .

    • Hi from Canada, Both of my calipers are starting to fail. My car is a 2005 M35 Stagea ARX and I can't seem to find any parts or any cross reference caliper that would fit my car. Is there a company or a similar caliper that would fit and I could replace the OEM one. Or if anyone knows where I can find a new OEM. Any help is very appreciated. Let me know!
    • Maf is a question mark but TPS  I have set at 0.47, the fact that I’m getting proper voltage range out of it with the key on leads me to believe it’s functioning properly. I’m getting proper voltages on basically everything. I still need to look up voltage ranges for z32 maf and test that
    • Honestly no not at all, but it’s a very basic tune, it’s stock injectors q45 tps and z32 maf. Other than that it’s a completely stock base map. The file is from nistune and from my understanding if it was tune related I would be able to unplug maf and tps and it would still start even if it was a really shitty start. I have tried starting it with coolant temp, maf, and tps unplugged none of those 3 togethor or individually changes anything

    • What does it look like with highway driving? And yes, I had a similar thought as Duncan. It looks quite similar in my Stagea and I have made myself accept it as normal. Might have to look into it some day   Highway gets as low as 10l/100km on my end so I'm not as worried about it being a mechanical issue. More likely just the tune on the haltech.
