Its not through the VIV system.....An Insurance company will only write a car off due to the costs of labour on such a repair .....so what they class as a write off may not actually be a write off in a panel beaters eyes...And if it was through the VIV system the car would have to get a VIV number/report which is no good for the history on the car(although the car will never be sold so i dont really give a rats arse about that anyway!) i have seen hyundai's get fixed for the amount that this car will cost me to repair

Ok then, heres some pics to start with...1st pic you can see the A pillar inner panel has been removed to access the main structual beam that runs from the rear windscreen all the way down the side of the vehicle and finishes at the front door hinges,This is where we undo the joints from the door hinge pillar and connect it to our new front. The next pick shows the lower sill panel being cut and the next one is the panel removed and and we cam see the side structual beam...in the next pic the side structual beam has been removed...our joint takes place in front of this part....the next pic is the floor spots are removed, this joint is at the very lower of the bulkhead....the LHS inner panel stays where it is just the bulkhead and the sill panel and the side strutual beam is removed...these joint are all staggered....the other pics are of the replacement front that has been prepared for joining (apart from the inner structual beam has not been removed yet) An interesting comparison between the two vehicles side structual beam..they are diffrent...as the blue front is not a GTR front,It has larger beams...interesting...more pics of the actuall separation on the vehicle tommorow....you will get a better idea on how it is going to work then

Cheers

woh.... nice work.

Just wondering about the guards tho for the front. You've got a 4dr front cut yeah? So the guards aren't going to be as wide as a standard GTR? You just going to beef them up at the end??

anyways, looks like a fun project

cheers.

i dont have GT-T guards tho...i assume that you know that the guards off a GTR fit on GT-T 4 door and 2 door,i have gtr guards to fit on ofcourse.....only one pic today, its of the drivers side structual bar...quite interesting to see the drivers side has an extra peice in there over the passenger side!So if your going to crash...make sure theres no one in the passenger side!:D...hey how come no one has commented how cutshuts are unsafe blah blah blah?I thought someone would have something to say seeing as tho minesdatsun copped a caining...wheres my caining?

... where's my caining

You wont get one from me :)

I'm very happy to be proven wrong - and educated at the same time.

I admit to knowing nothing about the process involved in this type of repair - and yes I chided MD for wanting to do similar to his car with nothing but 'popular media' as factual guidance on my side. That said - I also didn't want to encourage MD to get back into a GTR in a hurry. As much for his sake as the people who might have been waiting for a bus next time.

However - that's old news...

This is an excellent and educational thread - keep up the good work :)

    • It is a kunfine Android screen . Does anyone know the wirering diagram of the fuga ??
    • just an update to this, poor man pays twice  Tried sanding down the pulleys but it didnt do the trick. Chucked another second hand alternator in the na car which I got for free off my mate and its fixed the squelling. Must have been unlucky with the bearings.    As for my turbo car, I managed to pick up a cwc rb alternator conversion bracket + LS alternator for 250 off marketplace, looked to be in really good nick. Installed it , started the car and its not charging the battery.... ( Im not good with auto elec stuff so im not sure if this was all I needed to do but I verified such by using a multimeter on the battery when the engine was running and I was only getting 12.2v )   I had to modify the earth strap for the new LS alternator , factory earth strap was a 10mm bolt which did not fit the bolt on the LS alternator which was double the size so I cut it off , went to repco bought some ring terminals that fit, crimped it onto the old earth strap and bolted it up to the alternator , started the car and same issue. Ran like shit and was reading 12.2 at the battery.  For a "plug and play" advertised kit thats not very plug and play but alas.  My question is , am I missing something ? Ive been reading that some people recommend upgrading the stock 80 amp alternator fuse to a 140 amp but I dont see how that would stop the alternator charging especially at idle not under load.  Regardless ive pulled it out and am going to get it bench tested by an auto elec tomorrow but it would be handy to know if ive missed something silly or have done something wrong.
    • My wild guess is that you have popped off an intake pipe....check all of the hoses between the turbo and the throttle for splits or loose clamps.
    • Awesome, thanks for sharing!
    • To provide more specific help, more information is needed. What Android screen? What is its wiring diagram? Does the car's wiring have power at any required BAT and ACC wires, and is the loom's earth good?
