Got owned by a few car lenghts last night by a BMW 320Ci, i dont usually race infact it was my first Fast and furious race since being on p's for over a year, but that BMW was riced up with 20inch mags and hektic exhaust and i knew it has the same amount of cylinder and engine capacity of 2.5 liters......So when i went to foor him on captain cooks bridge i was surprised a stock BMW which on paper has 170hp compared to 197hp skyline flogged me, i was in triptronic shifting at about 6-7 revs, we both started from 30k's i backed off at 100 he was already ahead so i gave up, speed limit was 80 so only 20 k' over i wasnt doing life risking racing btw all straight and not a soul on the bridge at that time.

i dont think its "underperforming", its most likely on the back of a tow truck

so what if 2 motors have the same compacity doesnt mean they will have the same power/ torque, or run the same rods/pistons crank etc, or the same bore & stroke or valve train cams, or even gear ratios diff ratio, tyres etc

your a p plater, and regardless of where it was or how much other traffic there was u shouldnt be racing anywhere thats not a controlled enviroment, otherwise other P platers like myself have to cop the bullshit extra laws they keep adding on because of you and others like minded

Yeah bro, chuck it on a dyno, will solve all your problems. Dunno if you know, but new model dynos have special sensors that are put in your exhaust, helps permanently suck out more exhaust gas. More air out = mor air and fuel in = more powarrrr...

Lol jks seriously though, running your car in a dyno isn't gonna do shit. All itll tell you is your car is making 150-170hp at the wheels... And by the sounds of it (youve described nothing mechanical at all, just winged about how you got beaten by a BMW.) there isn't anything real wrong with your car so a dyno run is wasted money. It's a non turbo skyline, they're not designed to be fast.

Save up and buy a GTT when you're off your p plates.

There is nothing wrong with giving your car a hit on straight line when there is no cars around............., i do a lot of freeway driving and i purpposely didnt exceed 100k's, the speed limit was 80....like i said im not going to crash at 100k's on a 80 zone, i have driven over that bridge 1000 times on the way home...

no such thing as safe speeding, regardless of how ever u feel the need to justify it, your a f**king tool, and even if you werent caught, you still have contributed to the extra bullshit laws the rest of the P platers who do the right thing all the time have to deal with

20km/h over thats what 4 points and a automatic 3 month suspension for a p plater in nsw?

I see, well the cars not perfect it sometimes shakes at idle im not sure why it happens but goes away and comes back, my mechanic suggested it needs new sparkplugs or coilovers, i used to driving my mates R34 manual around when he went holiday about once a week so it has someone to drive it around so the battery and stuff dont die, and it performs way better then mine, but that should be because its a manual and different gear ratio,my car feels like its got no grunt in 3rd or 4th so you could kind of figure out why im not sure its running like its supposed to, but you probaly right i just expect to much from it lol.

Im a good driver and i drive to the limit 95% of the time i need my car to get to UNI and Work, so im rarely recklessl, dont bullshit me man im sure you have gunned it past 10-20k's everybody has.

Famous last words! So many drivers - p-platers and fully licenced alike - have uttered those immortal words,

just before they wrote themselves, their passengers, or another motorist, out.

Non-turbo skylines are generally quite slow. I'm not surprised the BMW beat you to be honest. I'm sure everyone here has sped from time to time man maybe just don't tell everyone you had an illegal race.

    • After my last update, I went ahead with cleaning and restoring the entire fuel system. This included removing the tank and cleaning it with the Beyond Balistics solution, power washing it multiple times, drying it thoroughly, rinsing with IPA, drying again with heat gun and compressed air. Also, cleaning out the lines, fuel rail, and replacing the fuel pump with an OEM-style one. During the cleaning process, I replaced several hoses - including the breather hose on the fuel tank, which turned out to be the cause of the earlier fuel leak. This is what the old fuel filter looked like: Fuel tank before cleaning: Dirty Fuel Tank.mp4   Fuel tank after cleaning (some staining remains): Clean Fuel Tank.mp4 Both the OEM 270cc and new DeatschWerks 550cc injectors were cleaned professionally by a shop. Before reassembling everything, I tested the fuel flow by running the pump output into a container at the fuel filter location - flow looked good. I then fitted the new fuel filter and reassembled the rest of the system. Fuel Flow Test.mp4 Test 1 - 550cc injectors Ran the new fuel pump with its supplied diagonal strainer (different from OEM’s flat strainer) and my 550cc injectors using the same resized-injector map I had successfully used before. At first, it idled roughly and stalled when I applied throttle. Checked the spark plugs and found that they were fouled with carbon (likely from the earlier overly rich running when the injectors were clogged). After cleaning the plugs, the car started fine. However, it would only idle for 30–60 seconds before stalling, and while driving it would feel like a “fuel cut” after a few seconds - though it wouldn’t fully stall. Test 2 – Strainer swap Suspecting the diagonal strainer might not be reaching the tank bottom, I swapped it for the original flat strainer and filled the tank with ~45L of fuel. The issue persisted exactly the same. Test 3 – OEM injectors To eliminate tuning variables, I reinstalled the OEM 270cc injectors and reverted to the original map. Cleaned the spark plugs again just in-case. The stalling and “fuel cut” still remained.   At this stage, I suspect an intermittent power or connection fault at the fuel pump hanger, caused during the cleaning process. This has led me to look into getting Frenchy’s fuel hanger and replacing the unit entirely. TL;DR: Cleaned and restored the fuel system (tank, lines, rail, pump). Tested 550cc injectors with the same resized-injector map as before, but the car stalls at idle and experiences what feels like “fuel cut” after a few seconds of driving. Swapped back to OEM injectors with original map to rule out tuning, but the issue persists. Now suspecting an intermittent power or connection fault at the fuel pump hanger, possibly cause by the cleaning process.
    • For race cars, this is one part where I find having the roll cage bar having gone through a hole in the floor better than the build it up on a ledge inside... The Merc I help on, the main hoop ends are marked on the car, and the jack is marked... Jack goes under a few inches and lifts one whole side of the car up... Removes that fight for long slim jacks for race car duties!   My biggest issue for the daily drivers I work on, is my jacks don't go high enough. The jacks start out on a few blocks, jack it up, then start a second jack under it on more blocks, and then I can get an axle stand under it. My axle stands are presently in use, and are nearly fully extended. The car is sitting with barely more than a cm of clearance to get the wheel off the studs! Sarah's Kluger is the same, as it has an ungodly amount of droop available in the suspension and a distinct lack of good jacking points!
    • Happy? Yep, my to do list is getting shorter and shorter. Either this light approaching is the end of the tunnel, or I'm about to be hit by a train... Ha ha ha   Also, Duncan isn't that far out of town that you need to make a multi day drive out of it. 😛
    • Sorry I meant that we are building the EH for a client.
