So I was travelling in a 50 km/h which becomes a 100km/h zone and booted it up to speed just prior to hitting the 100km/h zone, however was doing under 50 in the 50 if it makes sense.

There were two lanes in my direction (I was in the slow lane), two opposing lanes, and a petrol station on that opposite side. A highway patrol car was in the servo (probably buying donuts) and saw myself and another car accelerate up to speed, obviously he heard us because we weren't driving stock cars.

He ran to his car (keep in mind he is 4 big lanes across plus 2 bowsers deep on the opposite side) and pulled us over. Didn't say much, defected the other car I was with and handed me a 20km/h over ticket. I asked if he had us on radar, he said no, he estimated our speed. I maintained the truth in that I wasn't speeding, but that obviously upset him and he said he'd see me in court, ran to the car and got the defect book out.

So he didn't have us on radar, no camera footage and he didn't record the conversation.

Anyone else been in a situation like this?

Each state has its own bullsh%t regulations but i know in NSW the officer in question cant book you for 20 km over.

As you stated there is no radar , video , etc as evidence to suggest you where and in no way shape or form the officer is qualified to

be making such claims , especially when he wasnt in his vehicle travelling behind you to go off his speedometer . Anyway he can book

you for negligent driving if he deemed you were driving in a unsafe manner . You should try fighting the fine if it means you are going to

lose your license but end of the day

the courts will see turbo skyline on the papers and the judge will try and make your life difficult. Get legal advice maybe they can help .

Sorry to hear what happened you would think the police would have something better to do then go across 4 lanes and go out their

way to pull you over . What bad criminals we are modified car owners .

Thanks Chris, I'll def give you a buzz!

Yes UW8NCY, it would be physically impossible to determine the difference between say 14km/h and 21km/h, obviously the difference between the two speeding categories in the space of a couple of seconds.

So you're sure on them being unable to book me over 20 in NSW? PM me if you like :P

I will lose my licence if I cop this, but regardless I'd still be fighting this BS!

PJ yes I have been booked for it before (But yes, I was speeding and did admit to a speed that was below what I was doing, but slightly over the limit) I got booked for what I admitted to.

I since know 2 people who are in the force, very rarely does a police officer pull a car over on a visual estimation alone. Reason being, most of the time, it gets thrown out in court.

Your problem, the court most likely won't throw it out as you're not a grandfather driving a dead standard Camry with a 10+ year clean driving record.

There is no way that the cops could actually prove this, He should have known that. The cop cant guestimate the speed based on standing there looking at you and obviously isn't mastered in kinematics.

Take it to court!

get some legal advice and take it to court id even say he was trying to bully you and abuse his powers if he ran off to get his yelow book to intimidate you cus you dissagreed with him

I can apreciate a cop that is enforcing the law by stoping crazies on the road but to Guestimate the speed and abuse somone cus they dissagree with your argument is pure BS.

Yes-s-s-s-s. Corinne as usual, is correct.

And you need to emphasise what you said earlier, that your velocity was under 50Km/hr in the 50Km speed zone section.

It helps to add that you do not like having your good driving record besmirched by someone else's error. :ermm:

And this is why 99% of police officers won't do it.

Although, as you admit to "giving it a hit" he could do you for street racing the other car if they were doing the same, which is most likely what prompted his attention. (The definition of "race" is fairly broad definition in regards to our Road Rules)

Paul - the problem is that you have admitted doing more than 50km/h before the 100km/h sign, if it were after you would be ok, But even I can tell a car is doing more than 50km/h, so I think your only real option is to accept a lesser speed, maybe 10-15k over at best.

So I was travelling in a 50 km/h which becomes a 100km/h zone and booted it up to speed just prior to hitting the 100km/h zone,

Not trying to be a smart ass, but yeah, you did.

Unless you were tying to say you were doing 20km/h in the 50 zone and accelerated to 50 or less when you crossed the 100km/h sign.

Sorry dude, didn't take it/mean it that way at all haha

What I meant was, although I booted it prior to the 100 zone, I wasn't doing 50 in the first place so at no time did I technically exceed the limit

The conversation you had with the cop will all be on video. The camera is always rolling and actually tapes from 5 seconds before the lights are turned on, so it's all recorded and when the footage is asked to be shown in court I'm sure it will be flicked before you know it

scummy cops.....if every highway patrol cop lost their job they would all be unemployed because A) they are too dumb to do anything else B) wont make it past the interview for any other job because the employer will see what true ass bags they r.

My 2 cents (plz dont flame) my opinion on highway patrol.

    • Shouldn't need a "base map" for anything other than guidance to ignition tuning. You just need the engine capacity right, the injector size right, and something, almost anything, for a VE map. On an NA engine, fuelling is almost completely a function of load signal & rpm. It should run and drive with a completely flat fuel map. It will be too lean under load, but that's easily fixed. We used to tune all ECUs without any base map. There were no such things (until someone had tuned a near stock engine on one, and then they had a "base map".
    • What did you actually buy/how much did it cost? When I got mine in like.. 2017...? 2019? the aim was to run Torque for gauges via ODB2 and things like Track Addict/Laptimers/Dashcam/Reversecam/Spotify etc. Mine never broke, but I wonder if you've got the same needs (it sounds like it). Cause I liked the idea of being able to do anything with it. That said, yours also cost 3x the cost of what I spent so... food for thought.
    • For me there is a massive difference in manufacturer or big brand crippled android (Sony, Kenwood etc) vs the sort of thing I've installed here, which is basically just a tablet in DIN form factor with open Android, and the other model of course is mirroring - Android Auto/Carplay. I hate the locked down manufacturer and AA options where they decide what apps I'm allowed to install, including the Launcher but also importantly things like Ecutek (for this car) or Real Dash (Stagea) are not supported. Plus those crippled versions tend to be slower due to both overheads and lower spec hardware. On the other hand, when this breaks I'll likely be in trouble for support....but how is that different to owning an Infiniti anyway
    • Yeah, Duncan is helping sell me back to Android devices. I've hated the whole Android head units due to their speed issues. Even in my old Hyundai Kona (2022 model), it behind the scenes was Android, and slow and shitty to start up. Once running wasn't bad, but still a good 15 to 30 seconds.
    • My roof rails are off atm on the E39 until the rust is fixed. I did find another little bit of surface rust under the rails when I took them off. As @soviet_merlin said I'd just leave them alone unless you're planning on ensuring they're properly sealed. I was on the fence about leaving them off as the delete is still a thing in BMW E39's but I feel like the car is missing something (er, it is, der) with them off and I'm looking forward to putting them back on.
