sorry to bump an old topic....

does anyone else use a Quaife front diff i their GTR? i want it for street use, good strength, a bit of everything, a trip to the drags and the odd circuit day.

I talked to Ash (31nismoid) he seemed happy with the nismo front diff, The quaife centre i can get in australia, if i go cusco or nismo i will most likely inport it.

thoughts??

"Gav" & "R32-TT" (i think thats wrong lol) - both WA users they have Quaife fronts.

I believe Gav is around at the moment and not away for work, drop him a PM

As i said in my PM's, it wasn't just the front diff. Also had a modified transfer case & rear diff - its the overall that makes a difference as when i just had a front it was good, after the rear was done it was sensational.

Ive got a couple of customers that we've installed quaife enters for.

One has a factory transfer case, nismo shimmed rear diff and quaife front with 4:3 ratios.

It's subtle in the car park but works well on the track (track only GTR)

Another has a quaife front, nismo rear, modified transfer and actuator, seq hollinger and 3:5 ratios.

It's a bullet of a car and the gearbox makes it a pig, the diff has been terrific.

Good question, I can get one for 1699 delivered from just jap. Anyone know a better dealer?

The quaif diff sounds awsome for street and circuit work, anyone know what it wo be like launching at the drags?

I got mine from SVS in the UK

The blokes name is Tim. Champion of a guy. It cost me about $1100 but then i got raped by customs.

Another option is [email protected]

Cant remember the blokes name.

Can't comment on how it drives but give us a few weeks and I will. Matty and Gav from WA swear by them!

Having driven a mates GTR with a similar setup to mine recently (he didn't have a front diff or transfer mods, but did have a rear diff) - the car was very very tail happy out of corners as if it were RWD... Where mine would put all the power down and drag you out of a corner with only a mild squirm in the rear at best.

Hard to say if it's just one part, it's certainly the overall combination of the 3 drivetrain parts add up to a noticeable difference irrespective of which front diff you go with.

But given how my mates GTR drove, I'd certainly be thinking about a front diff as well. Honestly if i had my time again the first mods to a GTR aside from turbos/injectors/ECU - would be to do the diffs etc. Highly rate it as a course to take

What advantages would a Quaife have over other front diffs like , Nismo, ATS and OS Giken.

I have Nismo 2-way LSD at the back, would it be better to get a Nismo at the front or mix it with the Quaife at the front.

I chose a quaife for the front of my GTR and a nismo clutch pack upgrade for the rear.

Different tech to all the others, the result is a better design for the steering and drive end. I'm sure the nismo would be fine if bedded in correctly, i have driven a GTR with an ats front diff, quiet but felt notch-y. I havn't mush experience with an OS front, but I would imagine they would be great on a drag car.

Ford used them as oe in some of the performance focus models, so can't be a bad thing.

'locking up' generally is a term used to describe a point at which the diff positively engages a torque bias.... this may be a percentage or a full lock up depending on the diff and how it's set. the term is mostly used with clutch style lsd's. An example would be an aggressive kazz rear diff in an s13, at slow speeds it will 'lock up' on a short turning radius and bang the cv's/tyres (essentially the same as a welded diff).

this is why I chose the Quaife.

    • Kinkstah, no, coilovers aren't illegal, especially as a bolt straight in. The illegal part will be if they're altering suspension geometry beyond factory limits, or the ride height is not legal.   Sounds like the blue slipper just didn't want to deal with any later possibility of mods appearing on the car.
    • The problem has always been that coilovers are able to be adjusted, almost at any time, to be too low. Most people who ever get/got defected for/with coilovers were actually afoul of the minimum ride height rule. So the interpretation by cops/inspectors was always that it is pointless to allow numpty to raise his coilovers and get the car inspected/cleared, then just drop them back down again as soon as they get around the corner from the inspection station.  This led to the interpretation that they were illegal unless rendered such that they can't be adjusted (ie, collars welded to the body, that sort of thing). That may or may not have ever actually been the official line, but I'm pretty sure it's not considered to be a solution these days. Coilovers themselves fall under clause 3.2 b of that manual, because they are an "installation of a variable ride height system" and they don't fit the exclusions in that clause (which point to air springs and other pneumatic adjusters). So, as per previous statements, they require engineering cert to be legal on the road. Once you have such cert, provided you do not adjust them outside the height range covered by the cert, you are OK. Without, you have an unroadworthy vehicle.
    • Here E10 is the cheapest fuel. And general advice is to not use it unless you hate your car. From what I remember it clogs up stuff in the fuel system or injectors?  With US/Canada being E10 across the board, does that mean that all fuel there is terrible?
    • Sorry, are coilovers ACTUALLY ILLEGAL in NSW? They aren't in Vic, as long as they retain 70% of stock travel and the car is above 100mm off the ground. Does NSW actually have a law making coilovers actually illegal? RWC/Blue Slip/Engineering people not knowing the actual f**king laws boils my blood. Demand them to point to the documentation that states a coilover is illegal. (it may exist in NSW ) Edit: I checked. They aren't. https://www.nsw.gov.au/sites/default/files/2021-02/RMS-infosheet-light-vehicle-modifications-manual-suspension-and-ride-height.pdf
