Anyone Using A Quaife Diff?

Recommended Posts

Hi Justin, I bought the Quaife and have been talking to some blokes that are using/going to use 2 other mods they say go together, BUT I may have misunderstood.

1. TSC, I guess the TSC can be used to add the power to the wheels when you want them to have in any given situation

2. add a couple of plates to the trannie, it will transfer the power to the front quicker than the stock setup.

As I respect these blokes I will give it a go and see what happens, I figure if you do not try you will never know, haha

The build should start in about 3 weeks and hoping for around 400awkw with grunt down low , it is killing me waiting as I have everything ready to be installed.

Just had the Advan RS-Ds put on  , what do you think??

REVIVE!

How come more people don't go for front AND rear Quaifes? Most only speak about front diffs.

I am interested in the upgrade, and given the comments about needing to do both, I was wondering which rear option was best. Only doing occasional track days and is a weekend car.

And what does the transfer case need? Just a rebuild - or specific mods?

Cheers,

Nick

Hi Nick

I am having the Quaife front diff and the trannie mods but have a Nismo 2-way LSD back in already, so I guess I will see how it all goes together, but I am not a race boy but I am sure there are a few blokes here that have already done it, maybe not the Quaife back diff yet.

I think most are waiting for others to try the Quaife back diff as it is reasonably new to the scene and has no track record but I guess if it is as good as the front seems to be from all reports they will start using the combo .

The Trannie mods seem to be adding some extra plates but can be arranged to give different response depending on how the plates are arranged and what you want. There is a web site here somewhere and if I find it I will put it in a post for you to look at :)

Because the Quaife rear was only released last year. I know of one bloke that went from the Nismo GT pro in the rear to a quaife and loves it. He also has the quaife front and extra friction plates in the transfer case.

Thanks for the responses. I suppose it would be night and day going from an active LSD (in the VSpec) to a proper mechanical diff in the rear. Then I need to find a non-Vspec diff case.

I'm getting my sump extended and thought it would be a good time to get the front diff changed. But it seems I should do both at the same time.

Found good pricing on the Quaife from the US : http://www.frsport.com/Quaife-QDF3L-ATB-Differential-Nissan-Skyline-GTR-R33-R34-front_p_29114.html

Works out about A$1500 shipped, vs NZ and UK which were over A$1700.

Just be a bit careful with your US pricing.

Don't forget to:
Add 20% because our dollars sucks.

Add postage.

Add 10% GST to all that.

Add customs fees (Sometimes).

Add 3% if you are paying by credit card.

Gets pretty close to the local price.

I paid $1854 delivered for mine from Just Jap but it was mid July and the $ was stronger, so $1500 is great now if it includes everything :)

Yeh, the front diff is US$1,114 + 135 shipping = US$1249 = A$1,513 (using my trusty 28 degrees mastercard which doesn't have fees).

So its a $250-300 freeroll - if i get charged GST its the same price as JustJap, if I don't I'm up $300 which I can spend on some cam gears.

From the reports on the front diff I would expect nothing less from the back, especially with the warranty they offer

How is the 350GT going, had the " Dec 02" 350GT Skyline until a month ago ,.I put the APS TT system on it, it was a sleeper and surprised a few blokes out there, now my Son has it, I should have held onto it until my R34 came back from the build, miss not having a fun car to play with. :yucky:
