lol the Ferrari's 'Horse Whisperer' said that to.

'It's true that Felipe Massa's race engineer was caught up in the heat of the moment and chose to use the verb "destroy" at some point,' the column states. 'It might not have been the most politically correct choice of word, but it definitely carried no malicious intent, especially when you take into account that Rob is a Middlesbrough lad, born and bred! It is also true that this exhortation to Felipe came at the exit to Turn 5 on lap 11 of the race, at the end of which both the Ferrari man and Hamilton were due to come in to the pits together. In other words, it had nothing to do with the collision between Felipe and Lewis that happened on the following lap.

'It would not have taken much to avoid this misunderstanding, but that's what happens in the frenetic world of Formula 1. When all is said done, as the Bard of Avon himself might have put it, it was all much ado about nothing.'

this is very sad.

mark webber on his championship chances...

"Yes of course, I do think that last year was my last chance at being World Champion," he told Yahoo News Singapore. " But I've pushed very very hard and done many many things that other people could not have achieved so I'm very proud of what I did.

"To win the Championship you need 100% from the team. I think it's difficult for the team to give 100% to both drivers as we are both demanding. Looking at the start we actually got (in 2011), it's clear where the support needs to go and I respect that in some way. The team has given me a great opportunity to do well. I ask for a reliable and strong car every weekend and I will give my best. The team knows I always give my best."

I am reading its a misquote. Seems they left bits out to paint a different picture.

Mark Webber has promised he will be a much stronger competitor next year, but concedes that his best chance of winning the world championship has already passed him by.

The Australian has been unable to match the stunning form of team-mate Sebastian Vettel this year, and believes this year's battle was lost on the back of a poor start to the campaign.

In an interview with Yahoo in Singapore, Webber speaks positively about his chances for 2012, but is also mindful of the opportunity that went missing 12 months ago.

"You can expect a stronger me next season and I hope to get a smooth start like we did in 2010," said Webber. "For now, I just want to finish it as strong as I can and get some good results."

When asked if he felt 2010 was his last shot at the world championship, Webber replied: "Yes, of course, I do think that last year was my last chance at being world champion. But I've pushed very, very hard and done many, many things that other people could not have achieved so I'm very proud of what I did."

Reflecting on being team-mate to a driver as strong as Sebastian Vettel, he added: "To win the championship you need 100 per cent from the team. I think it's difficult for the team to give 100 per cent to both drivers as we are both demanding. Looking at the start we actually got, it's clear where the support needs to go and I respect that in some way.

"The team has given me a great opportunity to do well. I ask for a reliable and strong car every weekend and I will give my best. The team knows I always give my best."

Webber also made it clear that when he decides to retire from driving, he will likely turn his back on F1 completely because he is tired of the politics.

"It's a new chapter after you're done driving in F1. I haven't thought so much of what I would do after F1, but it's definitely not here. Now I enjoy the driving but when the day comes and I'm not driving I'll go and do something different.

"Why? Because of the politics I really don't like it."

Reporter.... used best chance in interview...used last chance in print. Who knows if its intentional. if you read the original interview there were some daft questions and there was a tone to Marks responses... he talked of being asked the same question over and over. Remember he called a journo a farking wanker in a press room two weeks ago

Should be run out of town just for reading something supported by Sky! Gonna lose my good quality, ad free race feed with fantastic analysis on the red button afterwards. Up yours Murdoch!

Not that it should prevent them being blamed but it is not actually News Corps fault.

The BBC cant afford to honour the contract they signed for the races. They stuffed it up, not Rupert.

There should have at least been some chat about pay per view before it was dropped on everybody

This last minute cash grab is going to piss a lot of people off. Now those "ill never watch F1 again" people will actually tune out because they cant afford it. Having a morals is one thing, flat out not being able to afford watching is something very different

Not sure I would characterise it as a cash grab. F1 being relentlessly commercial I cant see how Bernie (who whomever is in charge of the commercial stuff this week) could really allow the BBC not to honour their contract and/or not take a pineapple just because the arse has fallen out of their economy.

I am sure there will be alot of pressure from the (mostly Pommie) teams to get the thing back to FTA as soon as possible.

Maybe this way the feed we will be getting might actually match the commentary. You know, just for shits and giggles.

On a serious note...which F1 websites have all the fluff about stats etc? Webber has an extra engine as he didnt take a new engine in Monza like everybody else.

I am curious to see if Webber picks a new engine for this weekend when everyone else is on used race engines or whether he leaves it for Brazil???

I cant find the article I was reading about the situation, but the whole thing seems like a bloody mess. I'm not sure I can handle going back to listening to Greg Rust and tolerate their pathetic ad break timing.

I just find it slightly suicidal that the viewing rights would go from a station with 20% of the viewer share, free to air, to a channel with a pathetic 1% and paywalled out the arse in a country where 8 of the 12 teams are based. I cant imagine that the cash from the TV rights would compensate sufficently for the loss of eyes seeing advertising.

It doesn't matter anyway, the deals been done till 2018 and we're to shutup and take it caws Bernie says so.

so for those of us who have not been following the TV rights saga, where will we (Australia) be watching our F1 next year?

Foxtel?

I thought Greg the goblin Rust said nothing will change as oneHD will just get it from whoever is supplying overseas and pass it on to us as usual...Maybe with more ad breaks to compensate..

    • Place the new daughterboard in the case and mount it using the 3 small black rivets provided, and reconnect the 3 factory ribbon cables to the new board Then, use the 3 piggyback cables from the daughterboard into the factory board on top (there are stand offs in the case to keep them apart. and remember to reconnect the antenna and rear cover fan wires. 1 screw to hold the motherboard in place. Before closing the case, make a hole in the sticker covering a hole in the case and run the cable for the android unit into the plug there. The video forgot this step, so did I, so will you probably. Then redo the 4 screws on back, 2 each top and bottom, 3 each side and put the 2 brackets back on.....all ready to go and not that tricky really.
    • Onto the android unit. You need to remove the top screen because there is a daughterboard to put inside the case. Each side vent pops out from clips; start at the bottom and carefully remove upwards (use a trim remover tool to avoid breaking anything). Then the lower screen and controls come out, 4 screws, a couple of clips (including 3 flimsy ones at the top) and 3 plugs on the rear. Then the upper screen, 4 screws and a bunch of plugs and she is out. From there, remove the mounting brackets (2 screws each), 4 screws on the rear, 2 screws top and bottom and 3 screws holding in the small plates on each side. When you remove the back cover (tight fit), watch out for the power cable for the fan, I removed it so I could put the back aside. The mainboard is held in by 1 screw in the middle, 1 aerial at the top and 3 ribbon cables. If you've ever done any laptop stuff the ribbon cables are OK to work with, just pop up the retainer and they slide out. If you are not familiar just grab a 12 year old from an iphone factory, they will know how it works The case should now look like this:
    • Switching the console was tricky. First there were 6 screws to remove, and also the little adapter loom and its screws had to come out. Also don't forget to remove the 2 screws holding the central locking receiver. Then there are 4 clips on either side....these were very tight in this case and needed careful persuading with a long flat screw driver....some force required but not enough to break them...this was probably the fiddliest part of the whole job. In my case I needed both the wiring loom and the central locking receiver module to swap across to the new one. That was it for the console, so "assembly is the reverse of disassembly"
    • But first....while I was there, I also swapped across the centre console box for the other style where the AV inputs don't intrude into the (very limited !) space.  Part# was 96926-4GA0A, 284H3-4GA0B, 284H3-4GA0A. (I've already swapped the top 12v socket for a USB bulkhead in this pic, it fit the hole without modification:) Comparison of the 2: Basically to do the console you need to remove the DS and PS side console trim (they slide up and back, held in by clips only) Then remove the back half of the console top trim with the cupholders, pops up, all clips again but be careful at the front as it is pretty flimsy. Then slide the shifter boot down, remove the spring clip, loose it forever somewhere in the car the pull the shift knob off. Remove the tiny plastic piece on DS near "P" and use something thin and long (most screwdrivers won't fit) to push down the interlock and put the shifter down in D for space. There is one screw at the front, then the shifter surround and ashtray lift up. There are 3 or 4 plugs underneath and it is off. Next is the rear cover of the centre console; you need to open the console lid, pop off the trim covering the lid hinge and undo the 2rd screw from the driver's side (the rest all need to come out later so you can do them all now and remove the lid) Then the rear cover unclips (6 clips), start at the top with a trim tool pulling backwards. Once it is off there are 2 screws facing rearwards to remove (need a short phillips for these) and you are done with the rear of the console. There are 4 plugs at the A/V box to unclip Then there are 2 screws at the front of the console, and 2 clips (pull up and back) and the console will come out.
    • So, a bit of a side trip, but one that might be interesting for people with JDM cars and japanese head units. I know @Pac previously posted about a carplay/android auto adapter he installed which used the AUX input, and @V35_Paul put in one of the Tesla style units that replace both screens. The option I went with was a Lsait LLT-YF-VER5.87_2 (https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/Lsailt-8GB-Android-Multimedia-Interface-for_1601187633672.html). Price was $1,150 for a single unit although they are much cheaper if you are willing to buy 2....$857ea. Make you you get the version 2 not version 1, it is faster and has a better UI - this is the manufacturer listing: http://www.lsailt.com/product/348.html. BTW if you've never bought from Alibaba before, don't be concerned....these guys can't stay in business unless they are responsive, ship fast etc, they were excellent (probably faster shipping than most local places) So, this was my task for a lazy Sat afternoon....looks complex but was all done in a few hours (it probably helps that I had some of it apart before so it was a bit familiar). I also decided to add a HD USB drive recorded at the same time and the unit also supports an aftermarket reverse cam (if you don't want to retain factory) and also AV in and HDMI out It looks much worse than it is, in fact in was genuinely all plug and play (no custom wiring at all). This video was pretty good (skipped a few steps), unfortunately they are an Aussie seller but no longer sell this unit (I guess Carplay/AA adapters are easier to install and much cheaper) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T5hJfYOB8Dg
