What launch technique do i employ to lay down quick 60's? Ride or dump?

330awkw will be my future plans, what clutch is everyone using for street using with this sort of power?

I know the excedy is great, but which model excedy? Needs to be light and strong

OS GIKEN twin plate.

HARD slip from about 5000revs.

Use something cerametalic with a button face and a decent clamp load.

I have faith in the exedy HD 5 button, some US manufacturers make 6 button discs which you can track down sepperately if you wish.

I have also seen/used an extreme motorsport kit on an SR20 RWD which had a good clamp load and a 6 button disc. I am fairly sure they are pricier than the exedy though.

Dial up a few rpm, hold the handbrake so you dont roll out of the staging lights, get the clutch to grab point, dial in a few more rpm 6k ish then feed out the clutch while you feed in the power as you drop the handbrake. A little slip on the line will get you out of the hole ALOT quicker.

OR limmiter bash and dump the clutch for AWD fury.... ha ha ha

Your choice.

If your going for a time, don't get to conserned about the tree, just go when you want to go. If you want to beat the v8 next to you, drop the clutch on the last red light to leave that sucker at the line.

Have fun

Justin.

im using nismo coppermix twin plate, really good for the street

Budget would be around $1000

well that rules out most of them, and deffinately rules out any twin plate.

budget and GTR :( get what you pay for, and launching a GTR puts a lot of stress and wear on the clutch.

I think you need to double that budget..

jim berry?

got one for my last GTR R33 400rwhp ended up costing about $1500 including second hand standard flywheel supplied & machined, clutch with 4200lbs clamp, 2 weeks later exploded taking out the gearbox. Got another and that was a shuddery pig and didn't last after a few events and launches.

Some people rave about them but that was my experience, now I go with quality multi plates designed for the power. not the standard GTR clutch with a bit more clamp?

this is from last hights outing. r33 gtr, currently at 340whp (god i need to replace those cooler hoses >.<) JIM BERRY full monty, 5100 clamp, nice clutch ;)

reaction time of 0.595

60ft time of 1.683

1/8 et of 7.81

1/4 et of 12.484

181.633kph

Driving style was simple, gently ease the throttle to 7700rpm, watch tree, dump clutch, hang on :(

bit disapointed my cooler pipes hadnt shown up before the meet but hey, thats what happens sometimes. next meet i hope to be able to turn ze pressure up and get a retune back to 400+whp and get my 11 slip :)

Cheers, allan

in the forsale section has OS giken 3SC triple plate $3000+ worth of clutch done 3000km + 5 hours dyno for $1000.

probably over kill for your application, but a quality clutch--bargain

That's my contact above and still for sale - OS Giken R3C with correct bearing and carrier. To be brutally honest I'll never, ever, EVER use anything but a carbon triple plate now. ATS (which are the xtreme clutches) clutches drive like stock (very progressive) and don't warp like the metallic or ceramic clutches over 450rwkw. I have one in both of my cars -R32 running over 500rwkw and one in my R33 GTR with 330rwkw. You put a carbon triple behind anything with under 400rwkw and it'll take a very very long time to kill it. The giken is a good clutch but absolutely nothing compares to a carbon triple - nothing.

    • I've looked up the parts number (41011AL501). It's around $700 OEM. Usually our Infiniti G35 here in Canada have interchangeable parts with my Stagea but the parts number are not the same. I have looked around and it seems the JDM 2005 V35 Skyline (which is the same as our G35) has the same caliper but I cannot confirm. And I can't find a repair kit. The inner brake pads drags on the rotor, seems to be rusty piston. Thanks for the info by the way
    • This coupled with 6-9 speed autos with ridiculously short gearing is why these modern shitbox cars always seem so fast off the line. If it wasn't for those things, Raptors would not seem fast. The problem we have is there is a driveability gap between a more gentle take off and a wheelspinning sideways launch. The difference between ankle flex required to achieve one and ankle flex required to achieve the other is about 0.5°.
    • Yeah I think I'm also with the opposite here. It's 'hard to keep up with traffic' because in the real world I'm accelerating with 15% throttle and they are pinning it. It feels like I'm being an overt dickhead at anything above 15% throttle, so the car sounds like I'm being an overt dickhead to keep up with/get ahead of traffic when I'm really just trying to drive with traffic. There would be no issue 'keeping up with traffic' if we used the same level of throttle input/aggression to drive around. People really do just drive around with their foot nearly pinned in econoboxes.
    • To be fair it's the other way around. 300kw is boring in a modern Golf or BMW. They are so competent / well-engineered / devoid of emotion that you have to go stupid fast to feel anything. Whereas the <300kw RB still makes all the right noises and it feels good to drive. Can pull off at the lights with the turbo whooshing and the blow-off pssshing and feel like the coolest kid on the block. Just don't look to the side where you'll see the bored housewifes in their shitbox Yaris/Corolla/Camry that kept up because you didn't go fast at all
    • 300kW is so boring in a Skyline, you'll get spanked by someone's mum's Golf with Alibaba pipes, and an email tune.
