How To Work Out Maximum Stretch?

I have some rims at home that from memory are either 9x18 or 9.5x18 (will measure up when I get home).

I normally run 265/35/18, but have been offered some 245/45/18 very cheap, is there a method to work out if these tire's will fit, and what the size limits are i could run?

Not only will t fit but 245/40/18 is even legal on a 9.5" rim!

Manufacturer's specifications will tell you what size rim for a particular sized tyre.

According to a Toyo brochure (most of the others will be very similar), "approved" rim width for a 245/45x18 tyre is 7.5 - 9.0 . Problem will be that the 45 profile tyre will have a larger rolling diameter than your previous 35 profile tyres.

comes down to how game you or your fitter is? i was running 235's on 11's and 12's and your finger would fit between lip and bead

Don't be weak, i run 215/45/17 on a 9.5 and 235/40/18 on a 10.5
