Hi guyyys and Grrrrls,

I had stupidly decided to purchase some new rims for my car which are Work Meister S1's:

20 * 9.5 + 25

20 * 8.5 + 25

Now the rear fit snug as a bug in a rug, just teasing their lip out of my lightly pumped guards.

Issues arise with the front however. The rolling diarmeter of the rim seems too large for an R33 to cope with.

The tire in the pics is a 245/40/20... so I am intending to run a 225/30/20 with some stretch to pull the rolling diameter back abit. That said, the 245's on the rim are worn to the belts and therefore I am skepcital of how a 225 will go with full tread, considering this worn out 245 still rubs.

Now, I was considering a 10mm spacer to pull the inside of the tire away from the control arm, AND a 225/30/20 with abit of stretch in the side wall to increase the gap. However, I'm not sure it will be enough.

Has anyone else run into these issues with stupid 20s? Suggestions? Does anyone know if aftermarket control arms are available (I had a quick look, but didnt see anything)

Pics of my problem....

dont run 20's? ;)

seriously tho, spacers are gonna be your only option....

if you go 20mm bolt on up front you'll have clearance and 30mm bolt on rear then pull the guards it'll look even again... this will take work and cost a lil :/

Hmmmm. It appears 225/30/20s only increase the rolling diameter by 11mm over the standard 225/50/R16 rolling diameter of the 33. If I add in some stretch and some spacer-age... and I think it might just fit.

Haha I know this will cop "dont put 20s on a 33"... but they came up so I snapped em up. Sort the fitment out at a later stage :P

Judging by the pictures you posted and the overall diameter of your current tyres you shouldnt need bolt on spacers to make the front wheels fit.

Here are the approximate overall diameter's of the tyres you have and alternatives that could get you out of trouble (factoring in tread depth which is usually about 5-7mm depending on the tyre).

245/40R20 - approx O.D: 704 - 705mm

245/35R20 - approx O.D: 679 - 680mm = -24, -25mm (compared to 245/40)

225/35R20 - approx O.D: 665 - 666mm = -38, -39mm (compared to 245/40)

225/30R20 - approx O.D: 642 - 643mm = -61, -62mm (compared to 245/40)

One thing you will have to be aware of is that as a general rule the lower you go in sidewall, the lower the tyre's load rating and if the load rating isnt equal to or higher than the manufacturer's spec then you can be defected or if you have an accident your insurance can be void... So make sure you check the load ratings before fitting new tyres.

I hope this helps :)

P.S - Love the Work Meister S1's!

U can also get defected for having a total diameter over 15mm over stock so you pretty much can't win with 20's. I'd prefer to have the correct outer diameter than the correct load rating.

Should've got 22's for your 33 :P

On a serious note though, grinding down the upper arm worked for me, had the car pretty low and it scraped on full lock. Another option is to just get yourself some adjustable coilovers and raise the front up by 10-20mm. Won't have a huge impact on the look of the car.

Spaces draw unwanted attention so I'd steer clear of them.

I do have Teins in the car... so once I get the wheel clearing I will play with ride height to make em not scrub on the guards.

I am hesitant about griding the control arm. I know in reality its an easy fix but its abit of a last resort for me.

I will run 225/30 tires on the front, and I am hoping this will provide the clearance I require. Will keep you guys updated!

i personally wouldnt touch the control arm. who knows how much that is going to affect the integrity of the arm + what if you get defected? would they knock you for that? could mean a new control arm...

thought i wouldnt be able to say this but it looks fkn sweet tho mate, tuff as nails

Thanks!

Haha yeh everyone hears 20s and thinks "GAY".

Thats ok i generally do to. But I must admit, these 20s I couldnt resist. There is something stupidly attractive about the proposition of black 20inch meisters on my car.

Im going for a new look, so the wing will be coming off and replaced with some carbon fibre touches here and there :D

20s look stupid on the front of skylines the lack of tyre sidewall and the raised hieght is ridiculous..

Now if your were to pick up some 18s for the front,it will make your steering easier and better, it will make your your frontend lower giving the car a mean rake with the front being slightly lower than the rear and generally all your problems will be solved and your car will look tuff as balls..

Thats my 2c anyway ,if you wanna keep your stupid 20s on the front then i have no further advice..

    • Hello!  i just finished manual swaping my r34 skyline with a r33 rb20de box(RB71C)box  When the car is running it squeaks crazy loud and it was smoking from the gearbox area. The gearbox is fine it was tested. The clutch slave cylinder seems like it doesn't fully releases the clutch. I want to ask if this noise is from the throw out bearing or could it be the clutch assembly or disk att.xFliq87Gzw6kImKBVqDebXkj0fBqymk0JaYeP3_3SlM.mp4
    • A few small updates since the previous post and lessons. I decided to do a little interior light upgrade on the 110. I quite like the iilumo items, even if they're a bit of a premium over other brands. You'll also note the Stedi Fogs, that will go into the S15 fog lights as I needed to match the bulbs since I got the new ones earlier. I hope they fit as the body is quite a bit longer than your normal bulb.  Annoyingly, I managed to trip the fuse, which normally wouldn't be an issue until I located the fuse. I can't say I've ever come across this. I had lucked out that someone nearby had a spare, but oddly enough Toyota dealerships seem to keep this in stock. I ordered some to keep in my stash and as luck would have it, someone else nearby tripped the same fuse so I passed on the favour.  I also did a little service on the 110 ahead of some additional work coming up. It's been annoying that Goleby's stopped carrying this particular HKS filter for the 110, so now I need to keep them on order from Japan. I also took the opportunity to install a bash plate and number plate riser. The plate riser is such a cheap but nice fix to help really tidy up the car. I'm tempted to now also replace my headlights, on this car. Both items were from Project Aero.    I also needed to replace the rear tyres on the 110, and after trying to get it aligned learnt that I need to replace some bushes in the front end, so that's next.  Closing out this update with a nicer picture as always!
