Hey guys, i'm looking into finally doing some work on my 34, only thing is there is so many people at different workshops telling me to do different things so i thought i would ask all you good folk that have already gone through this.

This is the short list i have decided on so far (feel free to ask and give advise about any of this as i want to get it right the first time)

Engine

Plazmaman FMIC with piping

Plazmaman plenum and throttle body

Garret GT3076R

Electronics

Link G4

G4 Boost Control

Exhaust

6Boost Manifold

(currently have Blitz 3" cat back)

Any comments or questions about anything would be highly appreciated

Also suggestions for dump/front pipes that will fit this combination would be great to hear

thanks.

Im guessing this is what you have said to the people from different workshops and this is why you have got different advice on a large scale...

Don't talk to everybody from different workshops. This will eliminate a lot of your problem. Find reputable workshops and speak to the owners/tuners.

You have not given any detail to what you want from the car at all so nobody can really comment.

as stated by blu33 not everyone knows what they are talking about, some just think sucker!!!!!!!!!!! and take money, most of your list seeems fine but would leave standard intake and get better injectors instead, the standard plenum in good for way over 400rwhp and gives much better mid range respones, nissan do a lot of rnd to there intake design for a reason, i only say this cause i have a lot more than your doing to your car and went with the greddy intake so on and so forth and watched others make similar power with better mid response with standard intake. but must say gt3076r is a great choice, go the 0.82 rear will see you to 400rwhp but really close to that turbos limit on that rear housing side but thats plenty of power for street. not saying greedy or plazma are crap just not required till round 500rwhp flow mark. oh and go 6 boost manifolds!

hey guys thanks for the replies,

@bluey33

your right i didn't mention what i was looking for, im going for around the 300rwkw mark. how do i edit this into the original post?

the reason for the different workshops is i moved to qld from vic so had to change, and the first place i went to in qld ripped me off.

The main thing i really want to get a handle on is what is compatible with what, as in what front/dump is compatible with the GT3076R etc.

@17psi r33

yes i have ran into a workshop that has thought just along those lines and got rid of them quite quickly, and thanks for the 0.82 rear tip.

as for the intake manifold i understand what you are saying, i guess a big factor was how much better forward facing plenums look lol. (not afraid to admit it)

If you can afford all that good gear then it will certainly save you doing things twice. You will need injectors as well as or instead of FF plenum, and a new, better fuel pump, and better brakes and suspension. An adjustable exhaust cam gear might help you to get to the 300kw that the Gt3076 is capable of but you will also need a GOOD tuner.

Nothing wrong with that list. You won't really find anything off the shelf for a dump pipe... an exhaust shop or workshop can make something up for you. Add a wastegate, fuel pump maybe some injectors yada yada yada, double what you think its going to cost and your there.

I'd be doing things the logical route first like fuel pump then injectors and computer . With a bit of a clean up I think you can get close to your target with the std exhaust manifold which will save you heaps .

I would spend the money on head work and the 25/26 are a bit short changed in exhaust valve size . From memory Ferea (Sp ?) and Manley make suitable over sized exhaust valves that go straight in with re cut and opened up std seats at least in an R33 25 head and surely there must be something available for 26 and Neo heads . A tad higher CR by skimming and mild cams would pay off too . Depending on what your valve springs are like they can be shimmed up or replaced with aftermarket ones . Just don't forget that boost pressure is also acting on the back of closed inlet valves and this pressure is working against the inlet valve springs .

The thing I see people reporting is that "hey I only got 280 or 290" but at the end of the day will the last 10 to 20 really matter ? Its just a number and IMO getting to the actual 300 costs appreciably more and it often just means more burnt rubber - and significantly more money .

A good mechanic , technician really , has been telling me for a lot of years the value of the word "adequate" . Its great because it isn't a number but when the result is adequate you go away happy .

I reckon many/most can scare themselves and get real out of shape with a lot less than 280-300 Kw particularly if the engine is responsive and a bit of a torque animal . I think the secret is a good head with good , often OE manifolds , and an adequate turbocharger . The computer and fuel systems have to keep up or you will damage things .

Your call but in my book mods have to have good bang for buck or you spend a lot more and often its for zip .

For example a good std fuel reg is fine if the pump and injectors are up to the task . If the cams are accurately ground to be timed right I'd use std pulleys .

If your coils are in good nick keep them .

Your call .

Actually I forgot to add that those Link G4's can use multiple load sensing devices such as TPS and manifold pressure or TPS and mass air flow . I think what some tuners do is make a TPS strategy with either a manifold pressure or mass airflow correction table . I think Scott from Insight , Sydney's ViPec dealer , did tell me that in theory TPS and MAF should be the most accurate overall if tuned properly but some don't like air flow meters .

A .

have a look in there http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/topic/55845-rb25-turbo-upgrade-all-dyno-results/

drop 3076 into the search box on the top right.

3076 kit http://www.gcg.com.au/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=flypage.tpl&product_id=538&category_id=56&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=53

you will also need

- justjap front pipe www.justjap.com.au

- highflow cat / no cat

- z32 afm

- pfc / nistune / g4

- ebc (apexi / blitz / hks / g4)

- 550cc+ injectors

- solid intake pipe (you will need this as the standard item sucks closed)

- intercooler (how much is the plazman? jjr turn flow in black looks stock, no holes, retains standard piping, do it all in your garage.)

- bosch or walbro pump

that will burn through $6k. change up the plenum and manifold later on.

But what I would do is the following for 250rwkw

- hypergear highflow on the stock turbo $1000

- jjr front / dump $100

- jjr highflow cat $100

- boost 't $80

- nistune $1000

- s15 injectors / 740cc highflow stockies $450

- bosch pump $150

- jjr black turn flow $550

- solid intake pipe $250

there is ~$3500

in any case, buy the parts yourself then take them to a workshop to get fitted if you dont want to do them yourself.

you cant use sidefeeds... its a neo.

my set up works phernominally well. its the following.

-siemens deka 60lb injectors

-nistune

-z32

-poncams

-3076 with tial 44mm ex gate

-am performance steampipe manifold

-fmic

-3 inch exhaust

makes 350ish rwkw running an ethanol mix.. but was about 290 rwkw running bp98 and stock cams and smaller gate.

you dont need aftermarket manifolds... 3076 will fit on stock manifold but use an adaptor/spacer that has ex gate port in it also so you can run one. stock intake manifold flows really well.

deka injectors are cheap as.. $400 for a full set brand new.

hey guys, thanks for all the replies.

one thing i think i need to let you guys know is ill be getting everything together before starting any work, ill be out of country for around 8 months and ill be coming back with a fair bit of cash that ill be using a bite of on the car.

this is the reason i'm trying to find out all the parts that are compatible so i can make sure everything matches up properly.

@KiwiRS4T

hey mate this list is purely power enhancing mods, i already have better suspension, and brakes are on the list.

@aleks

thanks for the dump pipe info, already got onto someone in townsville that will do it but really expensive...

@discopotato03

hey mate thanks for the massive reply, taking everything in and adjusting as you advise.

and i agree with making 300rwkw im not really bothered if i quite make it or not, as i said "around" 300rwkw also it is a weekend car only.

as for the machining side of it, i have a builder that does all the machining and building but doesn't do any tuning, and i am 120% confident with this builder. also do head porting and everything

i am taking in all the parts you guys have suggested and adding them to the list and asking questions, here is how it stands;

Engine

Oversized Exhaust Valves

Valve Springs

Adjustable Cam Gears (is +/- 10 deg from standard good?)

Inlet + Exhaust Cam (

Injectors (11mm?)

Bosch 044

Plazmaman FMIC with piping

Plazmaman plenum and throttle body

Garret GT3076R

Electronics

Link G4

G4 Boost Control

Exhaust

6Boost Manifold

High Flow Cat (magnaflow?)

Apexi Front Pipe (i can just get the guy at the shop to match the dump pipe up to the front pipe right?)

Custom Dump Pipe from Stainless Customs Townsville (if anyone has a place they would like to suggest please do as townsville is mighty expensive)

(currently have Blitz 3" cat back)

HEY SSXRICHO AND SIMON-R32, SEEN UR POST AFTER I POSTED THIS ILL WRITE ANOTHER REPLY

you need 14mm injectors.. get deka's that suit FG's (they are 3/4 length and drop straight in. i have the full length items and even they work but you need to space the rail by 12mm.

use tomei poncamsm drop in and forget about cam gears.

any reason you want to use the G4? the nistune works well and is cheaper. but you would need boost control of somekind then.

@ssxRicho

hey mate thanks heaps for that 250rwkw right up, if i end up going for that kinda power.......and its only that much, i could do it now... so thanks heaps for that ill keep it in mind.

@Simon-R32

Thanks for puting up ur build, ive seen ur car as i used to live in vic and go to winton all the time and still visit from time to time, im going to look into changing everything i have now to around what u have, do u mind? lol

Yer i just got talked into the G4 thats all, im happy to change as its gonna cost me alot more for G4, plus i already have a boost T

hey simon i take it you are using the NIStune Type 2 board is that correct? The R33 Computer? as i cannot find any for R34 or RB25DET Neo

ALSO i found the injectors u were talking about for $500

http://cgi.ebay.com....m#ht_2289wt_905

is it worth the extra $150?

    • Update 3: Hi all It's been a while. Quite a lot of things happened in the meantime, among other things the car is (almost) back together and ready to be started again. Things that I fixed or changed: Full turbo removal, fitting back the OEM turbo oil hardlines. Had to do quite a bit of research and parts shopping to get every last piece that I need and make it work with the GT2860 turbos, but it does work and is not hard to do. Proves that the previous owner(s) just did not want to. While I was there I set the preload for the wastegates to 0,9bar to hopefully make it easier for the tuner to hit the 370hp I need for the legal inspections that will follow later on. Boost can always go up if necessary. Fitted a AN10 line from the catch can to the intake hose to make the catchcan and hopefully the cam covers a slight vacuum to have less restrictive oil returns from the head and not have mud build up as harshly in the lines and catch can. Removed the entire front interior just shy of the dashboard itself to clean up some of the absolutely horrendous wiring, (hopefully) fix the bumpy tacho and put in LED bulbs while I was there. Also put in bulbs where there was none before, like the airbag one. I also used that chance to remove the LED rpm gauge on the steering column, which was also wired in absolute horror show fashion. Moved the 4in1 Prosport gauge from sitting in front of the OEM oil pressure gauge to the center console vents, I used a 3D printed vent piece to hold that gauge there. The HKB steering wheel boss was likely on incorrectly as I sometimes noticed the indicator reset being uneven for left vs. right. In the meantime also installed an airbag delete resistor, as one should. Installed Cube Speed premium short shifter. Feels pretty nice, hope it'll work great too when I actually get to drive. Also put on a fancy Dragon Ball shift knob, cause why not. My buddy was kind enough to weld the rust hole in the back, it was basically rusted through in the lowermost corner of the passenger side trunk area where the wheel arch, trunk panel and rear quarter all meet. Obviously there is still a lot of crustiness in various areas but as long as it's not rusted out I'll just treat and isolate the corrosion and pretend it's not there. Also had to put down a new ground wire for the rear subframe as the original one was BARELY there. Probably a bit controversial depending on who you ask about this... but I ended up just covering the crack in the side of the engine block, the one above the oil feed, with JB Weld. I used a generous amount and roughed up the whole area with a Dremel before, so I hope this will hold the coolant where it should be for the foreseeable future. Did a cam cover gasket job as the half moons were a bit leaky, and there too one could see the people who worked on this car before me were absolute tools. The same half moons were probably used like 3 times without even cleaning the old RTV off. Dremeled out the inside of the flange where the turbine housing mates onto the exhaust manifolds so the diameter matches, as the OEM exhaust manifolds are even narrower than the turbine housings as we all know. Even if this doesn't do much, I had them out anyways, so can't harm. Ideally one would port-match both the turbo and the manifold to the gasket size but I really didn't feel up to disassembling the turbine housings. Wrapped turbo outlet dumps in heat wrap band. Will do the frontpipe again as well as now the oil leak which promted me to tear apart half the engine in the first place is hopefully fixed. Fitted an ATI super damper to get rid of the worn old harmonic balancer. Surely one of the easiest and most worth to do mods. But torquing that ARP bolt to spec was a bitch without being able to lock the flywheel. Did some minor adjustments in the ECU tables to change some things I didn't like, like the launch control that was ALWAYS active. Treated rusty spots and surface corrosion on places I could get to and on many spots under the car, not pretty or ideal but good enough for now. Removed the N1 rear spats and the carbon surrounding for the tailpipe to put them back on with new adhesive as the old one was lifting in many spots, not pretty. Took out the passenger rear lamp housing... what do you know. Amateur work screwed me again here as they were glued in hard and removing it took a lot of force, so I broke one of the housing bolts off. And when removing the adhesive from the chassis the paint came right off too. Thankfully all the damaged area won't be visible later, but whoever did the very limited bodywork on this car needs to have their limbs chopped off piece by piece.   Quite a list if I do say so myself, but a lot of time was spent just discovering new shit that is wrong with the car and finding a solution or parts to fix it. My last problem that I now have the headache of dealing with is that the exhaust studs on the turbo outlets are M10x1.25 threaded, but the previous owner already put on regular M10 nuts so the threads are... weird. I only found this out the hard way. So now I will just try if I can in any way fit the front pipe regardless, if not I'll have to redo the studs with the turbos installed. Lesson learned for the future: Redo ALL studs you put your hands on, especially if they are old and the previous owners were inept maniacs. Thanks for reading if you did, will update when the engine runs again. Hope nothing breaks or leaks and I can do a test drive.
    • No those pads are DBA too  but they have colors too. I look at the and imo the green "street" are the best.
    • I’m not sure what happened I told them about sonic tunes free OTS tune and the next the I know .. I was booted..   To funny
    • Yea - I mean I've seen my fuel pump which is decades old and uh, while I'm not saying this with real knowledge... but I sure get the ick at using anything in the fuel system that produced the state of that pump. Many years ago I went through multiple pumps (and strainers) before I dropped the tank to clean it out with extreme violence. I'm talking the car would do maybe 50km before coming to a halt, which resulted in me cleaning out the filter with some brake cleaner and going on my way. None of my stuff ever looked like what came out of your fuel tank. I don't think I'd be happy with it unless every single component was replaced (or at least checked/cleaned/confirmed to be clean here).
